How do you react?

Lets just say someone makes a smart *** comment like "dude, your balding" or "dude, your scalp is showing". How would you react? for instance this one rat faced friend of mine who's not really my friend made a comment before I started my ambiguosly larger than life regimen. He said something like "losing a little up top eh, its okay i'm sure the ladies won't mind". And I replied with : You can have all the hair in the world, your still one hell of an ugly *** kid. Then he left with a shocked look on his face and I smiled.

Now, let me hear yours.

Don't expect people to be as sensitive about hair loss as you are. Do what you can, don't feel sorry for yourself and don't unleash your anger from losing your hair on other people. Sorry, I just think threads like this are stupid.

I agree. People have said things to me about my hair situation which have made me feel very uncomfortable. To me it's like the equivalent of trying to make a joke out of someone's obesity or whatever right in front of their face. Playful or not, it's just pretty f*****g rude to me.

Personally, I do not react inmediately in that situations, it´s the best way to avoid over-reactions that can show your "sensitive point" to the classical bitching-friend we all have, and if he knows he´ll be able to use it for taking advantage against us.

And, when you have digested your anger, there´s not much to say...

But I never forget those comments, and my bitching-friend is receeding at the temples actually, more than just the mature-line and I´m waiting for it to progress a little more to be the first one out to loudly comment it, better if there is some woman near... "Hey, bitchy, your melon is showing!! stop donating hair to the floor, that is useless!!".


It could be cruel, but if he would have been a sensitive mate about me, i will actually talk him about the big 3, that he´ll never hear without my aid, becouse he´s a dumbass and there´s not much info about it where we live.

Sweeeeeeet revenge... it´s all that a man can do for his pleasure.

Man alive does your post hit dead center with me! When I was going to college, there was this one guy who had this extremely thick and I do mean thick, bunch of black hair. I looked at it as more of a bush than his hair as it was that thick. On the Norwood scale, I'd say that he was a Norwood -2...he seriously had that much hair! So at the time I was in college with him I started losing my hair like mad. He just loved to make these stupid-*** comments about how I was losing it all. It used to really down me but then I started to realize that he may have that big bunch of hair (he may be bald now, who knows) but he was very very sensitive about how he would fit in. This told me that he could dish it out but if I dished it back to him he'd probably be in tears. It isn't about who can slam the other the best...what does that accomplish but make enemies and build walls not bridges. It's all about choosing your battles well and realizing that folks that poke fun at your hairloss just ARE NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR ENERGY to argue with!!!

If they're a friend of mind, i kind of tend to ignore it and shrug it off. If it's a stranger or someone I don't like, I say PWNJOUR! Although I would say all in all I can handle comments quite well. I think male pattern baldness has been less hard on me because I've *never* had great hair. I think all the guys who take the piss are going to really take it extra-hard when they hit 40 and start losing it after having had that many years of looking the same.

I'm as sensitive as the next guy about my hair loss, but I just think it's petty to start planning insults to people who will comment about your hair. I agree that someone who comments about your hair should probably thought less of, in so far as they do not consider the ramifications of what they say, but returning a stupid comment with a hurtful one directed at them is not something I think we should be conspiring to do on this forum. You'll respect yourself more if you can learn not to retaliate.

I have a mate who used to think it was hilarious to point out i was thinning, especially when there was lots of peaople around. I always think its best to rise above such people and act like its no big deal, that way they just look like pricks.
One time, however, i replied with something like "still, its better than being hung like a field-mouse" knowing he is sensitive about his tiny dick.
The girls there were in stiches, and he has never mentioned my thinning again.
Sometimes people need braught down a peg or two.

if it's a buddy and stuff and he doesn't mean any harm thats cool... cuz i joke around with my buddies about other things too so its all good... but if its some prick who wants to make himself look better and he happens to say it around a group of people to try to make me feel like an *** then he crossed the line and he'll have one hell of an angry italian dude on his ***. Not to mention tire marks on his face from a VW.

There are certain types of people in the world that I absolutely f*****g HATE.

Way up top on the list includes such people who, when in front of others, will comment on your physical traits/flaws (hairloss, birthmarks, etc).

.. There is NO reason to do this.

If you are concerned or have a question about a person's physical attributes, the least you can do is bring it up with that person in PRIVATE, and use some damn respect and tact when you do speak about it.

I for one, don't ever bring up anybody else's physical features.

1) I don't care.

2) I don't feel the need to embarass others.

.. I believe people who like to point out physical flaws of others, are pieces of sh*t and need to be socked in the face sometimes.

And I'm all for insulting them back. I will come out with even more harsh sh*t if need be..

Another thing you can say as a response is; "What do you think I don't realize my own physical conditions? Do you think without you pointing it out that I wouldn't know about it? Thanks for your observations."

.. If you say this in a serious, and thoughtful tone, calmly, you can shut a person up and make them feel like a real dick.

u don't hear me going around saying hey your fat!!! or hey snaggle tooth... or hey your eyes are closely spaced... sometimes I will think it you know its normal but saying it is not nice at all... especially when you know the other person won't appreciate the comment. I give off a vibe though, most people won't make a remark and if they do they will be sorry!
