How likely are you to go full NW7 while on finasteride?

Why does a hair suddenly fallout or shed anyways? Is it damaged? Is this the SLAPHEAD curse?

I don't understand shedding. But I want to. Some day I hope....
Shedding is fine if its a regular amount and its replaced with an healthy hair................................its when its replaced by an thin wispy miniaturized hair that's a problem.

When people refer to thin hair or thinning, do they mean: the actual hair is becoming miniature and that hair is now thinner or

The hairs are further apart.

Or both?

Why all the concern with shedding? Doesn't every healthy hair shed eventually and a new hair comes back?

I mean....I have a crop circle Bald donut on my head .....I need help. We all do ...when are politicians going to start taking this seriously. We need a task force...

Elon Musk can afford transplants but he chooses mars over my brain dome....noone cares

When your hair thins out, it looks like your hairs are further apart. This happens not because you have less hair, but the hair is less thick so it looks like you have less hair. I remember when my regimen worked 8 months ago, I didn't have any 'gap' between hairs and it was super easy to style. Now that hair is thinning again, it looks spread out one from the other and it is super hard to comb. It has also change from dark brown to a more blonde pigmentation.
I checked all my front hairs and every single hair is thick af. Yet it seems slightly thinner over the year on dutasteride. My hair simply stop growing despite Being thick and strong happens everywhere.

Your case is pretty weird, I've never heard about that. Have you already checked thyroid and ferritin?

Not only that but my hair cycle has been short everywhere on scalp over the years.

Yes it is very weird. I checked thyroid and iron long ago. All my hairs wont grow long anymore despite Being thick. I have cut my hair on crown checked all indevidual hairs and none were weak or thin. I know what those thin and weak hair strands looks like and I see none. And yet im losing ground. Hair grows only a few cm and stops.

Since reading your posts about generics I’ve been a little preoccupied. I begun finasteride on 20th May 2017 and for the first three years I was on brand name Propecia. Then around two years ago I ordered generic from Simple Online Pharmacy (reputable, UK based) and was supplied with Accord generics which I’ve used since before being given RelonChem generics which I am scheduled to begin Sunday as my Accords run out. Looking back I did have a shed of long, fully grown out hairs and I am now wondering if generics have been less effective. Hair is important enough to me to go back on full price Propecia if necessary. I would really appreciate your opinion.

@Wolf Pack - interested in your opinion on generics too please.

Its not the generic vs propecia argument that is necessarily the issue. It's the generic vs generic differences that ive found to be the problem.

Some of the generics I have been on have been 100% effective, but others like Indian made Accord (Intas) , just caused my hair to continually shed and miniaturize throughout the entire year or, so I was on them,

so much so, that it was a night and day transformation starting about a month after I swapped back to my previous generic.

Maybe some people are more susceptible to it, or it depends how much hair on your scalp that finasteride is affecting? I dont know?

For the record you dont always need to switch to back propecia, but if you feel you are sensitive to any variations, just avoid most of the Indian controlled brands that have appeared since 2014, as i've never been able to replicate the same results whilst using them.

Hi mate, glad you're doing great overall with hair. I would stick to brand, generics should be every bit as effective as the brand in terms of active ingredient and drug delivery into the system but sometimes this isn't the case. Primarily because they are made overseas (sometimes) and even if the lab is FDA approved, maybe the enforcement of those regulations is a bit lax? If it's a generic US/UK company it probably doesn't matter as much. I've always used brand but a couple of years I used generic at the start and didn't notice a difference. The shed could have been seasonal or for other medical factors. As long as your hair is looking the same in the mirror, I wouldn't analyse it further.

Thanks Wolfpack, I am pretty sure the generics are manufactured in the UK even if they are controlled by an Indian firm. The MHRA has pretty stringent regulation so the generics are very likely okay. I think that shed was a one-off event, I am just very self-analytical so if I'm putting this effort into my Big Three regimen I want it to be optimal. At the same time I don't want to waste money unnecessarily on brand name Propecia. I will monitor the situation, thank you for your reassurance.

No problem! I understand, but you've been on it a long time like me and maintaining - that is the thought to hold onto as far as effectiveness of the pill is concerned whichever one it is . I haven't lost anything in 7 years on finasteride and I think it's similar for you. There is another way around this, see a sympathetic GP and he may be able to write you a prescription for Proscar (5mg) to be split into quarters or fifths. Technically it's for enlarged prostate but off label a GP can legally prescribe it for hairloss, provided he writes it is to be split and into 1/1.25mg. More common in the states but does happen here too on a private/NHS prescription and it's the brand version. May give you peace of mind and also save some money. But yes otherwise just stick to generic, no point splashing out on brand if it's made in the UK and not imported - perfectly fine. I know a friend who used to buy brand and generic when he was younger and would alternative weekly, to ensure he is saving some money but also getting some brand in.
