I am getting myself ready to do the next step.....

...yeah, it is time to face it. finasteride won´t stop my male pattern baldness, my loss is just too agressive. I wanted to give finasteride at least one year, but now after 9 months I already know that I am going up to dutasteride. My hair is getting thinner and thinner, particularly the front is in a terrible situation and offers only limited coverage.

So, yeah, I am gonna start dutasteride, but I am still very unsure.

I have read horror stories about how people lost their whole frontal area on a dutasteride shed. Damn, this would be just too much. I am in a very bad mental situation and I probably couldn´t deal with such a situation. I would kill myself then. So, this is really a decision that will influence my life. On the other side I have no other choice. I can´t live without hair. I have to do it.

For the experienced users:

How common is a dutasteride shed? What do I have to expect?
I have read that some people suggest a low dosage of finasteride in case the dutasteride is Fake. How common is Fake dutasteride? I probably won´t get a perscription for Avodart (couldn´t even get one for Proscar....)and I don´t have a credit card either so I can only pay by paypal or bank transferal and not order at inhouse or united.

All in all I might need some positive words of encouragement.....

its antonio,

just because it was bad for me ,does not mean it will be bad for you.

Plus i am still going to keep taking it for the next 3 months and pray to god, allah, jesus, mary mother of god, whoever decides things up there.

I am in your situation were if things keep deteirating ,i don't think i will be able to carry on living.

Because i know how painful it is to lose hair,it also pains me to hear that you also feel it is a life and death situation, there is nothing i would not do to take this pain away from you.I really, really hope you get more luck with avodart than i have so far,but i know it is somthing you have to try
otherwise if you don't you will always have doubts in your mind

so good luck

Wow, this thread is the blackhole of HairLossTalk.com... All the life and happiness is just sucked out.

Tauge,
I did the same thing. I went to dutasteride after 10.5 months of Propecia. I think that finasteride just causes some serious shedding the first year... but still, I jumped the gun. I didn't shed nearly as much on dutasteride as I did while on finasteride.

I took it on an empty stomach for better absorbtion.

Goodluck on dutasteride, brother. I think you'll be fine. Definitely keep updating us with your experience on dutasteride.

Oh yeah, if you do it, try to get the genuine stuff.

weve been expecting you tauge :)

if i were you id try and see another gp. its worth the effort to get avodart
and the price is so much cheaper at least in england - dont know how it
works in germany but i got mine for £6. wasnt exactly my finest hour
going in to ask for it but it was worth it.

ive never shedded on anything so cant really give any advice on that -
you could add spironolactone to the front which is supposed to help and will
make your hair look thicker. its pretty cheap as well.

if it kills your sex drive then cut down - not good to go through life like
that mate.

I'm also wondering how I can get dutasteride online or something. I feel like it's hard to get it from somewhere that I won't worry about it being fake and will give me peace of mind.

Tauge...you need to see a psychiatrist man. Maybe anti-depressants would help you. Or even just talking to a psychologist would probably help you with your mental state. Hair is purely cosmetic and is hardly something to end your life over. If you really feel this way....look into getting help. It's out there

I am on the same boat as you, but I am just starting my treatment... If having or not having hair is a life-death situation for you, why not consider other methods like implantation or there should be other methods I am not familiar with...

Hey there.
When you say you got yours for £6 wha do you mean exactly? Is it a case of goign to the Dr, and getting a prescription and then paying a nominal fee?

Thanks in advance.

Ordinarily you won't be able to get a prescription for dutasteride in the UK, unless you have BPH. Maybe Sean was just very lucky to have a helpful GP. But for most of us, it's internet pharmacy time.

Cheapest place for Avodart is http://www.merlonipharma.ch (140 Euros for 90 capsules) who gladly accept payment by bank transfer. If you run a search of my posts with merlonipharma as the keyword you should find some where I explain the ordering process. Edit: done it for you, find one near the bottom of this page: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... 5&start=20

We can't tell you how likely a dutasteride-initiated shed is, that would be pure guesswork on our part. What I can say though, and hopefully a few others can verify this, is that the hair you shed will come back. But it's a long process, it took about 18 months for me to recover fully from my frontal shed, so don't even think about getting on dutasteride. if you're not prepared to stick it out for two years - side effects permitting.

yeah i went in and asked my gp. they usually fill out a private prescription
which means you have to pay full rate - about £40 for the month but
he filled out an nhs one instead possibly by mistake.

its a bit much having to go in and ask for it every month though so
i might get it from slarti's link or next time or maybe try and persuade him to fill out a repeat presciption ive not really decided yet.

JDW, you're thinking of dutasteride, yet you've reduced your Proscar dose? dutasteride is stronger than Proscar!

BTW, I've recently bought some generic Dutas from inhousepharmacy.co.uk - as of 9 days later, it hasn't arrived yet. The site seems to have a good rep though.
