JDW, you're thinking of dutasteride, yet you've reduced your Proscar dose? dutasteride is stronger than Proscar!

BTW, I've recently bought some generic Dutas from inhousepharmacy.co.uk - as of 9 days later, it hasn't arrived yet. The site seems to have a good rep though.

shouldnt be long. i used to order from there and never took more than
2 weeks.

Well I may be completely wrong but fewer people seem to get sides on dutasteride than on finasteride...

6 months on finasteride and continual downhill that's it., it doesn't work for me I just ordered dutas from United and will take every other day when it comes.

Its the last attempt at this harloss drugs game as I just had my hair cut and it looks crap compared to 6 months ago..cos the front is so bad I have had to have it cut really short as combovery type hide cuts I think are pants.

Hope this works..Thins post today inspired me to make some new concerted effort to make this work..

Do it! I have started dutasteride two weeks ago. I am taking it together with finasteride and I don´t experience any additional side effects so far. Good Luck!

You and me are both on the dutasteride finasteride combo. This combo rocks. I swear I noticed some itching and a little shedding when on finasteride still.

finasteride definately helps, but I do not think it is powerful enough.

i hope the reason you guys are on finasteride is that you suspect your dutasteride may be fake. wasting money otherwise.... but i've told people this over and over and no one listens.

why not take dutas alone??

there is no sense in taking both. dutas alone will inhibit the same amount of DHT that dutas + finas..

I take proscar that I know is legit because it is free and because I worry that inhouse is fake.

I am not going to put my hair in the hands of some overseas internet pharmacy.

My body is so stubern that even when taking dutasteride and finasteride together I still see no long-term side effects.

I don't know, you seem to have started repeating yourself. They do say it's the short-term memory that goes first, or was it second?

Now if only we knew what Jayman thinks of the dutasteride/finasteride combo...

I suspect this is sarcasm because I posted what I thought of it above, but whatever:

Nothing wrong with what I said.

Just a jokey little comment alluding to how often you need to repeat yourself apropos of the dutasteride/finasteride combo issue.

You've probably said this elsewhere, but I was wondering how your hairline is doing these days. My frontal region appears to have stabilized - after a shed and lengthy period of recovery - at roughly the level it was when I started dutasteride. (August '04); not exactly what I was hoping for, but does show what a great 'maintenance drug' dutasteride. seems to be.

Yes, a left and a right one.

0.5mg per day with no ill effects so far. But like I said, I'm only 3 years in, who knows what might happen in the next 3. My leg could fall off.

Took that pic last week after buzzing my head with no guard. I'd say my hairline has come down about a quarter inch total since starting dutasteride, just from looking at older pics of my hairline.

JAYMAN: right there...

SLARTI: how bad was the shed at your hair line area? and how long is "lengthy"?

Okay, for clarity I could have said when my (main) shed occurred (between months 6 and 8 ), that it was several months after this before I noticed any re-growth, and that my hair then saw gradual improvement right up to the 2 year mark (give or take a few weeks). Of course this recovery was punctuated by a few fairly minor sheds, each being only a week or so long, and different parts of the old noggin had this re-growth come through at disparate times and rates; and ultimately to differing levels of success: the front merely got back to its pre-shed density whereas the crown and the mid-scalp ended up somewhat thicker - and the latter two of these were good going in thanks to the finasteride. I took previously.

It's just that I have typed this out (usually in more detail than the above) more times than I care to remember, and I really only wanted to put across the idea that, after almost 3 years on dutasteride., I find myself with frontal density broadly comparable to when I started taking the drug. I didn't mean to suggest that it had only just reached this point (it did that nearly a year ago), only that I can now say with some confidence that my hair has stabilized at this level.

Hard to quantify the exact loss at the hairline. I don't remember the shedding being more severe at the front than anywhere else (probably lost more hairs per square inch at the crown), but of course the front was already thin so aesthetically the impact was worse. But the shed hairs came back (eventually) and are still with me, and I think they would have gone by now if I'd stuck to the finasteride.

Glad things are progressing well, hopefully there are more gains to be made over the next year or so. I'll assume the rest of your hair is doing fine, or has never been much of an issue for you - hard to keep track of everyone's situation.

By the way, that's an impressively high-res. picture of your head. Would it be weird to print out some A3 copies and stick them up round my neighbourhood?
