^ for those that think that things don't happen for a reason... yes, sometimes they do. This was DEFINITELY the act of some higher power... the universe or something.

That was a really nice story and then this ruined it. Definitely?

I've heard much bigger coincidences that have worked out in someone's favour, it's not like you re-found the dog in some remote mountain.

C'mon mane.

Dogs man... Find the right one and it's better than any anti depressant. When I go home to my parents house and hang out with their Kelpie, my hair worries just melt away.
You must be a pretty good looking guy if 3 women want to date you in spite of your hair loss. That's got to help, and give you self esteem. Your business gives self esteem too.
I guess it's all about getting self esteem from other sources.

EvilLocks, I felt the same way about the dog I had for 12 years... she died last October. It was crushing, life ending pain for sure. She couldn't walk, so I carried her into the vet to put her down. Worst f*****g day of my life.

I was driving to pick up gravel when I passed by the humane society, turned around and decided I wanted to just look at the dogs. I saw this guy and immedietely took the papers up to the desk to walk him.

As I was giving the papers, a lady came up to me and said, "oh please, that dog reminds my daughter of our old dog and her heart would break, etc..." so I let them walk him, while I walked another, little dog.

Well, they couldn't handle his energy and came up to me and we "traded" walking dogs. They adopted the one I was walking and i adopted him.
He is my heart now. So friggin affectionate and playful and cute and full of energy.

This was the period I was literally thinking about offing myself

You know, I think it was some higher power that gave me my dog too. We got her just a few months before my hair loss nightmare started, so she's been with me through everything... In a way it has been the best and worst time of my life :) Without her, just the worst.
Sorry you had to put your dog to sleep, that must have been incredibly hard to do. I hate the thought of some day having to do this too, but if the dog has been suffering for a long time it's the right thing to do. Just hope it will be a long, long time before I have to do that (my dog is 5). Standard poodles can live up to 17+ years old so that's what I'm going for!!

they haven't seen me in person in years.

Holy sh*t man you're up for a brutal moral knockout. If I were you, I'd dump these relationships.

I find it hard to show up to people I haven't been seeing in years. Their f*****g pity stare at the hairline is unbearable.
This is balls of steel material. Too easy to get depressed in these situations, hope you're ready boy.

People have a rich repertoire of defence mechanisms to cope with difficult situations in life.
Turning a coil into a diamond is one of them.

every approach to the mirror is torture

you can still look completely healthy with a receding hair line, if you have density elsewhere, or a thinning crown... when it's diffuse all over, you look sick (at least I do)

I didn't say "God" dude... just something was guiding me. nothing wrong in believing that the universe has some power that may come to you when you're in your lowest point. It was really random of me to stop by the Humane Society when I haven't been there in years, especially during work, out of the blue.. even weirder that these people decided not to adopt such an amazing dog.

I had receding temples (a lot) but other scalp was thick as f***.

It changed in a heartbeat (just a few weeks) when 60% of hair just rotted. Hope finasteride will take them back.

Yeah I realise that, and I'm not a huge religion basher or anything so that wasn't the issue. I guess I'm of a completely different mindset in trying to be practical in low moments.

religion has nothing to do with it. I could not despise religion more.

Shook, you kind of answered your own question on "why we feel this way". The energy it takes to sustain a relationship is alot. Not only do you have to worry about your own well being, you have to worry about your partner's as well. Not only that you have to worry whether both of you will be faithful and how much you can trust one another. In addition, you must handle conflict and disappointment together and all the other curves that life will throw you.

When you are alone, it takes alot less energy because you only have to worry about yourself. You get to make your own decisions without someone else telling you it was a wrong one. You don't have to compromise and you have your own space all the time.

In a nutshell, long lasting relationships requiring lots of energy to succeed. You have to have self discipline and make sacrifices to make it work. Not everyone has the tools or desire to make that a full time job along with their occupational job. When you have been alone too long, it almost becomes hard habit to break. Que Chicago song, "Hard Habit to Break"

Tremendous work, 'House.

Couldn't agree more with your take here.

I gotta echo the same sentiments in this Bucky gush-fest, but he really is a unique force of a poster/human being. Wears his heart on his sleeve, open honest and humble, funny as hell and intelligent.

When I don't have time to read threads and flick through what may be juicy, Buck is one of the few members on here that I'll always stop and read, and it's always worth it. When you have people like that here it transcends this forum being my anonymous little secret, because you learn a lot and take away things from people like that which you bring to yourself in the real world.

At a very minimum that should mean enough for you to feel valued on this earth Bucky, because plenty of people here feel the same, and I'm sure you can bring that strong connection to others in your life, whatever the hair situation.

You would look sick and old with a receding Norwood 4 hairline anyway, though.
and by the time you have the horseshoe you just turn into a completely different person. at least you dont look sick anymore though :D

im same way though buck. but its definitely hard to tell if its depression or not. i have long stretches of complete empty numbness. so maybe so. i look at full heads and their petty bullshit issues and i wanna get mad but that just takes it out of ya. much better to just realize some people have it easy. i do at least i appreciate things a lot more than pampered full heads. its just the sadness from being bald gets so overwhelming sometimes it turns into some weird bizarre negative twilight zone where you forget you exist :D
