ChemE. Tbh, in my country, like in most countries in the West, the life sciences are predominantly female. The PhD programs are 70% female. Med school majority female and rising. Even engineering and programming are seeing an influx. Men will still dominate mathematics and physics though

Undoubtedly extraordinary men in one or more areas, but that doesn't make their opinion on other, irrelevant topics, carry more weight than yours or mine. I used a few examples, but not to indicate an exception but a trend. More women are graduating with a college degree than men. And that gap is ever-increasing. Of course often in useless fields of study, but as I previously mentioned, even in the hard sciences things are shifting.
If that will also translate into more world-changing innovations by women, only the future will tell.

Women are not what they used to be and even my mother confirms it. Expectations towards men are rising and decreasing towards women. Look how they have been trying to push women into other parts of STEM for the last decades, but maths and physics are still like 80+% male and stable. ( I remember when I was in uni they distributed these leaflets on how to feel women 'more at home' in STEM. But the funny thing was that these occasional women were already being treated like princesses by the majority of awkward stemlords. They didn't even have to do their own assignments if they didn't care to)

Yeah I know women are on average closer to the total mean. It's an interesting phenomenon. I'm not sure the distribution is quite that extreme though.

Stil, even if 98th+ percentile of IQ ( 2 SDs above the mean ) is twice as rare in women compared to men, that would still leave enough women across a population to make meaningful intellectual contributions. Especially since nowadays scientific advancement is done more incremental and often is a group effort.

The life and health sciences are becoming more and more feminised however. And fast. My uncle is a physician and he told me that that could actually be an issue for the profession. Because women tend to not dedicate their lives in the same way as men ( lifestyle choices are more important for them, they want to have children etc ) and being a physician requires a lot of sacrifice. I wasn't trying to make the point that women aren't privileged my guy, only that they aren't inherently intellectually inferior, even if their intelligence is distributed differently compared to men.

To be honest, I'm against quotas full stop. Sure even then you wouldn't get a pure meritocracy ( you can never filter out nepotism, the effect of class privilege etc ), but quotas are undemocratic and obviously aren't the answer to level the playing field.
