I think it would be better to phrase it as only having effect above .5 rather than "under." The non-effect occurring under .5 isn't really an "effect" it's the absence of an effect.

You see what I mean? That's why I was confused.

Yes, I see what you mean.
What I should have said is :

"finasteride has exactly the same result of reducing DHT until you go under 0.05mg. This means it's reduces aprox. 60% of scalp DHT whether you take 5mg, 1mg or 0.15mg. It's only when you go under the 0.05mg mark that DHT levels will start to rise again.
This is what is meant by a flat rate"

Right on thanks for that link that was really helpful. I'm officially going on 0.5 mg finasteride from now on. Probably stay there for 3 months or more and see how I do.

I've just dropped from 0.5 (which is what i've always been on) to 0.1mg.
I'm slowly weaning myself off.

My next step is to either follow inlands regime of minoxidil, spironolactone, tricomin and proxiphen or el_duterinos regime of RU and fluridil.
Both are great topical regimes which won't mess up your hormones

The same as 1mg I guess.

I've never had any side effects other than watery semen, and that doesn't change whether I'm on 0.1, 0.5 or 1mg.

I'm getting off it because I value having children and a long sex life more than my hair.

The topical solutions are looking like a much better (although much more expensive) alternative.

I feel the exact same way. I found 6 months worth of Revivogen for only $40 bucks on Amazon. I'm going to try using Nizoral everyday like in that Japanese study too.

Can I ask you a question? Was the water semen watery from the beginning or just at the end? Because mine looks pretty good but towards the last "drops" it is a bit clear and watery.

The first week brought no change.
The second and third week brought a massive drop in libido, although looking back I blame the people on this site. I got so worked up after reading the horror stories that I convinced myself that my penis was going to fall off.
Once I'd got over all the scare mongers my libido and sex life went back to normal.

My only change to this day is that I don't get erections in the morning now (although I due during the night, which wake me up) and the water semen.

To answer your question, I got water semen about 1 week into taking finasteride and it's never gone back to normal since. I believe the change in fluidity is a worrying problem for me and I worry about fertility,

Having children in the future is much more important that keeping my hair....

I'm debating about whether to go on finasteride or not. Obviously this website is extreley helpful and there is a great deal of useful information here. Although, to some degree, I wish I had not read as much about the sides because now I think I'm just getting paranoid.

I'm 28, probably NW3. My Doctor told me that I had "lost a lot of hair for my age," and prescribed finasteride without any issue. The only side he mentioned was watery semen, told me of no other sides. I actually went as far as getting the prescription filled and while I was waiting for it, I began reading about the sides and got so paranoid that I didn't end up picking the prescription.

It seems like most people say that they suffer from the sides, or that "many people don't have any sides but I personally do." So it's hard to get an understanding of the actual stats. I don't mind moderate sides while I'm on it and I'd like to try it and know that I'll stop if the sides are too severe. I'm mostly nervous about permanent sides and don't know how seriously to take that.

It's a pretty safe drug. There's just some people who can't handle it for some reason. Just hope you're not one of the lucky few and you'll probably be fine.

After 10 days of starting finasteride my libido completely went, penis went very numb, scrotum went loose and balls hung low. I took one day off and just persevered. Within a week things got a lot better and in two weeks everything was ok.

I would say carry on with finasteride. There's no research saying it lessens your chance to have children. A lot of it is truly in the head. However the side effects I had were definitely real but luckliy they went away after continued usage.
