I'm Interested In Getting A Hair Transplant But Was Told That It's Not A Good Idea Until The Balding

Nic Cage has been shown in paparazzi pics with a VERY bald crown. He must be wearing hairpieces over it in movies. His front/top looks like transplants.

It's rumored that quite a few actors do that. They start out getting the front transplanted early on. They run out of donor hair as things worsen, and eventually they end up combining front/top transplants with a hairpiece over the crown.

If you are an actor and willing to commit to hairpieces for life then it is a workable setup. Your hairline is never at risk of looking like a hairpiece because it's always the transplants. That makes hairpieces a little bit easier to deal with. And if the rest of your head looks full then people don't scrutinize your transplanted hairline as much as if the rest of your head was very thin.

IMO Nic Cage was not a good transplant candidate. Too much loss for the donor hair supply to cover.

damm i actually NEVER thought of this but thats a good ''technique'' i think.. toupee actually sucks because of all this ''mess'' at the hairline it can create.. and it can look fake as sh*t mostly at the hairline if you dont cover it with a ''crop top'' hair cut.

But transplanting all your donor zone at the front tier of the scalp and getting a toupee eventually for all the crown could work ?

Can it work? Yeah.

But I wouldn't do it. It means intentionally getting a transplant that looks unnatural on its own. That takes hairpiece commitment to a new level.

Okay, if you make your living on your looks, maybe you are willing to make that sacrifice. But many of those actors doing it have probably ended up that way against their will. Before the internet era it was standard practice for almost every transplant clinic to over-promise results.

It's still pretty common for the late-night TV advertising clinics. But 20 years ago it was hard to avoid that pitfall even if you tried to be smart about getting transplants.
