I'm 21 and real scared lol I asked my barber if my hairline was receding and if i was going bald at the crown, and he said no but it really looks like it to me. I can't remember what my hairline was like before because I had fairly long hair for most of high school and only had it this short for probably the last two or so years. My dad started going bald at the crown in his late thirties. I don't know anything about my grandfather. Everyone on my mum's side has really thick hair and no one went bald. What can I do? I don't know what kind of doctor to see.
I've tried to provide as many photos as I can, let me know if more are required.

Yes you're receding, sorry =\
There are proven treatments to stop that, here is the big three : finasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole shampoo.
Do some research on these treatments, look at scientific studies, not posts from random guys on hair loss forums.

If you get on finasteride now you have a good chance of keeping your hair for a long time. During a ten-year study, 86% of patients remained at or above baseline at the end of the study.

You won't need a prescription for minoxidil or 1% ketoconazole shampoo, however, you'll need one for finasteride (from a dermatologist, though a generalist can prescribe it too).

Crown looks fine, but your hairline is definitely receding. Minoxidil, which comes in brands like rogaine and kirkland in combination with finasteride will let you keep your hair for many years.
mnoxidil is an over the counter drug in most countries whilst you will need to go to a doctor to get finasteride. Dermatologists are good in the sense that they often prescribe the much cheaper version of finasteride that comes in 5mg pills which you can eat a quarter of daily. 5mg pills are meant for enlarged prostates, as apposed to propecia (1mg) pills that are meant for hairloss. But the chemical in the pills are exactly the same, only the dose is different.

My suggestion:
Get on finasteride ASAP
minoxidil is if you really need to thicken up your hair, which it does not look like you need.

Good luck

Your hairline is definitely receding for your age. However, keep in mind, most hair loss treatments work better in the crown than at the hair line. You can try to save as much hair as you can by using minoxidil and finasteride. You are approaching a NW3 so you are receding slightly beyond a mature hair line. I would advise you to see a Hair transplant doctor who can map out your future hair loss treatment plan. He can document with photos and bulk analysis to see where you are now and help follow your progress. I honestly don't think many dermatologists or family doctors are educated or even experienced enough about hair loss like a hair transplant doctor. Not only that but most dermatologist or family doctors don't find hair loss a major issue or speciality like a hair transplant doctor.

does finasteride work for most people? obviously without hair transplants i can't get the hair back that i've lost but if i can keep the hairline and hair I have for as long as possible I'd be pretty content with that. I've booked in to see my GP on wednesday to see what they say and then hopefully they can push me towards a dermatologist or something. does finasteride or minoxidil have the chance to cause you to lose more hair than gain/keep? from what i've read very few people experience the sexual side effects that can be caused by finasteride, so I'm not toooo worried about that but the possibility I'll shed and lose more of my hairline using the treatments kinda concerns me.

just a tad under half of people will experience regrowth on finasteride, another 40% will maintain, and about 10% will lose their hair still but slower after 2 years. After five years, most people still remain above baseline. finasteride and minoxidil can not cause your hair loss to become worse over the long term. Initial shedding is common but only temporary, and if anything indicates a good thing

Will the miniaturized hairs grow into normal hairs using finasteride?

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. I'm going to see a doctor today and hopefully get a prescription for finasteride. I'll think about using minoxidil but I can't really tell if my hair has thinned out at all. And from what i researched it's rare that minoxidil gets results if used on the hairline.

Ignore those idiots.
You're good to go dude. No hairloss.
Either you're trolling or you can't recognize clear signs of male pattern baldness.

If you're considering a treatment, start it now, don't waste time wondering wether you're balding or not because you are, that's the harsh truth =x

doctor wouldn't prescribe me finasteride when i saw him yesterday he wanted me to have blood tests first, so hopefully next week. Tomorrow I'm going to buy nizoral shampoo hopefully. I don't think I really need regaine... I can't tell if my hair has thinned or not and it seems that minxodil doesn't really work on the hairline.

Your doctor obviously has no experience in treating male pattern baldness. You obviously have male pattern baldness. I started treatments with less loss than you.

:/ mmm yeah, i've been trying to find hair transplant doctors in my city but i can't seem to find any. I'm thinking maybe I should asking him to prescribe me dutasteride? it's apparently stronger than finasteride, and considering how far along i am in my loss it might be worth it to go straight into the deep end.

You're not that far into hair loss, finasteride, even alone, should work just fine.

No doctor in his right mind is going to prescribe you dutasteride for hair loss if you've never tried finasteride. You can always order dutasteride online if you want, but you should know it has a higher chance of giving side effects and it works only moderately better than finasteride, it's your call.

Minoxidil can work on the hairline, it's just that it's the hardest area to regrow, but it happens.

You are too young to mess with dutasteride and your loss is not at the crown. Start with finasteride first always. Dutasteride does not have a long enough safety record and could be a potential cancer inducing drug.

I'm just real scared, you know? like i've only just lost a lot of weight that i had in high school and just when i thought I could have some self confidence i find out my hairline is receding. Sorry, I don't mean to drop all the feels but it's just really messed me up. And I've been really stressed and worried that nothing will work. I'll take DoctorHouse's and your advice and just go with finasteride and nizoral shampoo for now. Thank you.
