Guys, Today morning was HORRIBLE. For the past 3 days I had been seeing lot of hairfall, hence I did not shampoo my hair today, just took a shower ( I did not want to tense myself with hairloss today, I had to concentrate on work since I am already behind there ). I went to the sink to comb and Oh My God...I filled my whole sink with hair..I couldnt stop counting....It was crazy, scary and I almost puked. Ofcourse no need to say work got fucked up today too. Moreover I have been seeing my hair everywhere. Not my day.

Is this minoxidil shed. I have doubts about this, coz I just started minoxidil on May 30th. Its like 10-12 days . Can minoxidil shed happen this quickly....I am using Dr. Lees 5% ??

hair hair, it could certainly be the minoxidil shed. Just ride it out, all those hairs you see on the sink will grow back, and with time hopefully thicker. Most people who start minoxidil will face this shed, but as time goes by things will get bettter.
Be assured its just the minoxidil shed, goodluck and hang in there.

Thanks Guys...I hope so they grow back. I dont know how you guys go through this shedding period. Again today I stopped counting at 78 . Lot of thinning at the hairline where I apply minoxidil the most.

Oh BTW....I knew this was coming. I had gone out with my neighbor 2 weeks ago to Cheesecake factory and I was telling him I wanna avoid the cakes since ...maan..those things are FATTY....I clearly remember him telling me..."Dude, You are perfect, One cake isnt gonna make you fat". I met him outside the apartment today morning, first time after that day and his first comment was "WTF dude, seems like you dint stop going to cheescake after that day". I dint understand why he said that. And then I realised...f***...puffy face due to minoxidil...Yes, it has become really puffy and in just 14 days, its unbelievable...

Is there anything I can take to reduce the water retention? What do you guys take ???

I got this crap too. The real shitty thing about it is you don't notice it until somebody tells you and then it's already too late. I got bags under my eyes and cheekbones got swollen. I'm drinking shitloads of green tea and also putting it on my face. Swelling has gone down a bit now. Would be nice to have a cream or smth that would remove the water from skin. How long does it take for such thing to go completely away?

Bad sh*t continues.....Horrible days...

Apoc...I am already taking green tea extract tablets three times a day...So that option is out ...How do you apply green tea to your face...like you wash your face with it and then clean it off ?

No I just take 2 cotton balls, dip them into the tea and put them on my eyes and surrounding area when I go to bed. I actualy sleep with them on my face  . The bags under my eyes shrunk considerably in the last few days but I still have dark circles around them but that should disappear as soon as the water is completely out of the skin.

Guys...People using minoxidil....I need some inputs

How long does the shed last ? Are your sheds as crazy as mine...I mean its absolutely crazy and scary...Shedding has now increased to 100 hairs in morning and then I am shedding throughout the day.

Its been repeated 100's of times in this forum. minoxidil CAUSES AN INITIAL SHED. But Is this the shed you were talking about..Did everyone shed like 100+ hairs everyday.

It's almost been 2 months since I started using minoxidil. I never really noticed any shedding b/c I usually buzz my hair, but around the one month mark I noticed that my hair was getting even thinner on the spots I apply the minoxidil to, so I assume I was shedding plenty. Right now it appears that my shedding stopped b/c I let my hair grow longer than usual and I noticed that the thinning spots are a lot thicker than they were prior to using minoxidil...

So if your shedding is similar to mine then it shouldn't last longer than a month.... And when it does end, hopefully it will thicken up just like it did for me.

^what type of male pattern baldness have u got mate?

iv got diffuse thinning, all over the top front and crown. been on minoxidil and propecia for 1 week.

My loss has been localized to the front so far (hairline receded, temples gone, and progressive thinning above the temples), so I'm not a diffuse thinner. I've only noticed improvements on the thinning areas above the temples however...

I started Dr Lees minoxidil around 2-3 weeks ago (once per day) and my hair looks the same as it did before. I think it is possible to shock your hair out by immediately jumping on to twice daily applications.

Since I've been using it once per day I have allowed my scalp to get used to the soreness and irritation. This was noticeable initially, but is very mild now.

Once I can apply once per day without any soreness during the day, I will upgrade to twice daily application, or staggered twice/once daily application. And upgrade from there.

I'm expecting it to look thicker than baseline in two to three months.

I can recommend Jason's Thin to Thick shampoo, or Loreal Elvive, which are both very cool at creating the appearance of thicker hair. In fact, the first of these may have mild benefits for male pattern baldness in it's own right due to it's biotin content.

Hey,

pay attention... minoxidil doesn't causes water retention!
If you're having puffy face and itching too, it could be an allergy reaction to something in the topical solution!

I would stop now and run as fast as possible to the nearest dermathologist!

That's an inaccurate general statement. One of minoxidil's side effects CAN be salt and water retention. Although systemic absorption of topical minoxidil is usually insignificant, there's no doubt that undesirable systemic effects can occur in some circumstances. That's why its use is cautioned for those with certain health conditions.

I'm not an MD and therefore would not and could not suggest a definitive cause of the OP's malady. However, I would advise a visit to an MD to determine root cause.

Systemic effects in 2 weeks by 5% topical minoxidil?

Hairhaircomeagain, are you experiencing itch?
