yeah, that's one hell of a hypothesis. "baldness makes you too ugly to get a lot of girls". i mean its part of that stupid cuckold hypothesis, that baldness was made to signal being ready to "settle down and commit" since one is uglier and less likely to **** around. it doesn't make sense, the woman wud be more likely to **** around as you are uglier, and that means less reproduction for you.

Baldness didn't evolve in humans anyway, it evolved in primates, and for most of human and primate history strength mattered more than looks. To put it bluntly, there was no consent, if you wanted a woman, and you were strong enough, you just took her. This theory is just one of a smug, priviliged and illogical dick.

i heard it can also have something to do with heat loss.

today it was a bit chilly and misty. my bald head was cold as ****, i noticed how much warmer i was when i put on a beanie/toboggan.

its weak anecdotal support, but that wud make sense for middle easterners as it seems they have more baldness. maybe they have that as an adaptation to the desert heat? bald head = more heat loss to stay cool in the sun? but then again their heads would have less protection against UV rays and all that

Hair loss evolved in primates. Tree dwelling primates. Primates have short hair, it doesn't grow more than a few inches and doesn't obscure their eyeline.

Given this, I think we can rule out the sun/heat loss theory and the long hair being inconvenient for hunting theory.

Here's a more likely answer. Hair loss resulted as a sequence of random mutations. These mutations were non lethal and did not prevent those primates affected from mating as long as they had the strength to do so. These hair loss genes were passed on to humans, they did not evolve secondarily in humans. The reason why some populations exhibit less or more hair loss is due to travel and population bottlenecks, a small number of founders may or may not have high frequencies of these genes. Obviously in native Americans and aborigines it's very low. In Arabs, semitic and British isles people it's very high and has an early onset.

Random non lethal mutations, that's why hair loss exists. The reason why it persists is that mating success for males wasn't based on how pretty they were for most of human and primate history.

It's only in the last 30-40 years that male style, beauty and hair has really taken off as a must have for success with women. (Lucky us!)
Conversely it's only in the last 20 or so years that effective hair loss medications have been available as well as sophisticated hair transplants, so in that regard we are lucky.... Who knows, maybe we'll get luckier in the next 20 years...

This annoys the crap out of me. I always have to wear a beanie in winter.

There is a clear difference even amongst the 1guard cut wreath, and the smooth top. The smooth top gets real cold.

It makes sense, heat rises as we know, and so as autumn turns to winter, and so we're doomed to catch even a bigger chill once the top insulation(hair) is blown off. Just about the time my cap is hung up and my beanie is from it's drawer of mothballs.
