Re: STORY/PHOTOS of 35 year old with 13 years on Finasteride

I'm 25 now and me and my gf want to have kids within 5 years

irishpride86, I did not have any issues getting my wife pregnant - both times happened the month we actually tried to conceive. Before the first kid was conceived and 10+ years into Finasteride, I remember that I did worry a little about it at the time - it was a big unknown for me - will I have to sacrifice my hair (by going off Proscar in case it may be lessening my chances) to have kids? Thankfully, my worries proved unfounded and I have not seen any studies showing that Finasteride affects fertility.

Do you get the most common side of watery seman from time to time ?

I may have "from time to time", but I would also say that it's normal to have a variation even without Finasteride. Regardless, I didn't notice anything abnormal the last time I checked. It certainly didn't and doesn't affect anything.

Is 22 considered young to take finasteride? Or whether taking it at that age could potentially increase chances of getting sides?

I don't think so. For those who start to lose hair at this age, it's the best time to stop hairloss before it does too much damage.

[quote:2viuvpfb]Obviously didn't happen to you, but was wondering whether anyone ever mentioned it to you in conversation, or a doctor did maybe.

Yes, I've read and conversed about possible side effects extensively. I also noted that in year 2, 3, and 4 there was hardly any difference between Finasteride and placebo when it came to adverse reactions to the drug. Also, 13 years ago there were not as many "interesting" folks running around forums attributing everything that is wrong in their lives to Finasteride and scaring people into losing their hair by posting and reposting exaggerated side effects, scaring young men who have the best chance at keeping their hair into spending their money on worthless crap, instead of on something that is scientifically proven to stop hairloss and regrow hair. Frankly, makes me angry.

Yes, about three years and again a month ago ago I spoke with two dermatologists, separately - father and son - who were on Proscar themselves for almost a decade - both said that they had no side effects at all and both kept their hair (younger had more because he started sooner and older less, of course).[/quote:2viuvpfb]

Thanks man, sorry to bring up a pretty tired subject for you lol. Figured I'd clear up any remaining potential issues with side effects before I see my doctor tomorrow.

Totally agree with you on some of the sensationalist nonsense you see floating around forums and the like. It's a shame people can be automatically scared off treatment when the NHS website (UK National Health Service, if you didn't know) explains how rare side effects are. It's good of you to provide a little reason and sense to the forums. With any luck I'll be sharing a similar story soon!

dinosaur_sr... whatever you do, just don't let your mind play tricks on you after being bombarded with so much crap you read in hairloss forums about how your pecker will supposedly fall off on Finasteride or your brain will wither.

Good luck! You may want to start a new post tonight to track your progress with photos.

Will do man :punk: Wasn't able to get my appointment with the doctor, booking appointments tends to be difficult over here, national healthcare and all that. I've managed to book an appointment for ten days time, hopefully I don't recede to a norwood five in that time lol.

The NHS simply regurgitate the same information from clinical studies/ drug companies. Anyone putting there faith in the NHS when it comes to there own health is probably a bit of an idiot.

You are right though, you shouldn't draw any conclusions until you have tried the drug yourself.

"simply regurgitate the same information from clinical studies/ drug companies."

I would rather trust [multiple] clinical studies done by professionals than opinions of a small bunch of disgruntled anonymous online laymen (most of whom appear in their early 20's), wouldn't you?

Studies show a very low incidence of ANY side effects and demonstrate how effective the drug is. Which is why I stuck with finasteride for so long and the only reason I still have most of my hair on my head.

But yes, people should try finasteride for themselves to see if it works for them or if they are in the few % that find it bothersome.

Exactly. There's no reason not to trust the NHS, plus they've done an awful lot of good for my family, so I definitely trust them.

Re: STORY/PHOTOS of 35 year old with 13 years on Finasteride

Got a question for orginal poster:

You said you were on generic finasteride from Walmart right? Did yours look like this below:

IMAG1243.jpg

So I got some generic finasteride from Walmart, and the 5mg pill looks small then the 1mg pill of Propecia, so when you cut the generic 1mg pill into fourths it looks way smaller then the 1mg Propecia pill, it is suppose to be 1.25, and should looks bigger then the 1mg Propecia pill...

Am I going crazy here ???

Also did you see results on walmarts brand

The generic I took that Walmart gave me was made in Israel by company called Teva (a good, reliable company) and looked like the long blue pill you're holding (and may be it is!). It worked for me.

Just cut it in fours - here's how I did it. First, you split it in two length-wise, and then you cut the resulting two parts in two. Don't worry about size differences - most of the pill is just filler anyway. The drug part is tiny and distributed evenly throughout the filler.

I dont want to be the rude guy who spoils the show, but there is signiticant difference between your recent and older pictures. In older you hair colour is brown and skin with red spots - irish/schotish look. In recent pictures you hair is totally black and skin colour is totally white and clean, cousing big contrast.
In older pics the "triangle" below the temples is smaller/less noticable, while now you have nice triangle like John Travolta in youth days. Shape of ears is not the same: earlier they were little bit more rounded and not so fully "attached" to scull.

gascoigne, my friend, you have a very active imagination! You can rest assured that it's indeed a younger me circa 1999 (with acne skin and color of my normally very dark brown hair made redder by sun and especially by a cheap disposable film camera). If for some bizarre reason I wanted to waste my time to post a fake "success" story, don't you think I would have tried to find a picture of some really thinning or bald guy and used that instead?

Did you ever expierence any brain related side effects?

No, no mental side effects at all. While on Finasteride I graduated from university, got a great job that requires mostly creative and problem solving skills, no problems learning new things including new languages.

Probably because the recommeded dosage is 1mg pr day, and it's difficult to separate them into 5 pieces.
