FGF (not particularly FGF9, I cant find any info in the article) is administered 11 days after wounding;
I believe that's on mice. However;
I was watching another video with Dr. Cotsarelis the other day, one of Desmond's recording's from last year's Hair Congress. This video specifically:

If you watch the presentation, you'll notice that FGF-9 is required for hair growth after wounding. However, FGF-9 is shown to be a precursor to WNT. Interestingly, Samumed's new topical works on WNT! So, could dermarolling along with Samumed's SM04554 actually lead to hair growth?
If only we knew which one of the three formula's is the CORRECT one they're using in the trials! More on Samumed here: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/showthread.php/94997-Samumed-SM04554

Example 14Enhancement of EDIHN by Administration of FGFTo determine the effect of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) on EDIHN, recombinant FGF is administered 11 days after incisional wounding, as described in Example 11. FGF administration enhances HF formation, showing that new HF can be generated by (a) disrupting the epidermis; and (b) administering FGF, a nucleotide encoding FGF, or a factor that increases signaling by FGF.
I believe that's on mice. However;
In another embodiment, the present invention provides a method for treating an Androgenetic Alopecia in a scalp, comprising the steps of: (a) disrupting an epidermis of said scalp; and (b) contacting said scalp with a cell selected from (a) a precursor cell that is capable of differentiation into a hair follicle cell; (b) an inductive cell that is capable of inducing differentiation of an uncommitted epidermal cell into a hair follicle cell; or (c) a hair follicle or portion thereof, thereby treating an Androgenetic Alopecia in a scalp. In another embodiment, step (b) is performed 3-12 days after step (a). Each possibility represents a separate embodiment of the present invention.
