I really think that your classmates are being honest... I am 6'3", and have never considered a man short unless he is literally a midget.

It wasn't until I lost my hair that I noticed how short men are often as self-conscious as balding men.. It never crossed my mind before that, and I never thought less of a man that was shorter than me. I just thought I was slightly above average height, and they were slightly below average height.

There is a guy at work that is trying to get hired onto the police force.. one day [this other shorter dude *which just became apparent to me now] said "That guy has been trying for years to get hired as a Police Officer! I bet they won't hire him because he is too short!".. and it was at that point that I realized, this guy was shorter than 6 feet... I never before realized that this guy was shorter than me.

Anyways, I notice all the time now how the shorter male's I work with always poke fun of their short stature.. make note of how tall I am, when I have never felt tall [just average].
It is really weird how evident this is now that I have my own first insecurity..

As I believe has been established on these boards, I am a 5'6" manlet...maybe 5'6.5" at most, as my height has occasionally been measured as 5'7". I'm also a fairly well muscled gymcell

Several months back, I was partnered up with this chick in my class for some hands on stuff (I'm in a program of study in the medical field), and in order to properly use a certain instrument on an individual, it was necessary to know the height of the person you were working with. I had just done the exercise on her, and adjusted it for her height, 5'5" Now it was her turn to perform it on me.

She goes "I need to adjust this because you're kind of tall"
I go "I'm 5'6"
She looks at me "What? No...You're tall"

Literally I am on eye level with this chick every time we interact

Fast forward to just recently:

I am partnered up with this dude, and we are using the same device. He's 5'11". He's adjusting it for me, and he goes, dead serious:
"now you and I are about the same height, right?"
"Dude, what? I'm 5'6"
...."no...?"
Some girls nearby are like "wait *KJ*, you're 5'6"?...no...." These are chicks I am on eye level with, literally acting f*****g incredulous to this information

What is up with this? I know some on here like to talk sh*t about gymcelling and its compensatory patheticness, but could it be that the physical presence of my musculature creates some kind of height illusion to people? Or something else? It seems pretty off to me to misjudge a short person as a tall one

You may give off a presence/stature which is larger than your actual height. This may have to do with muscles/build, but can also just be from your general frame and even just your mannerisms and how you carry yourself.

I'm 6'1" and broad, but people constantly insist that I'm taller than what I am, even when they have folks close to them (brothers, BF's etc.) who are my height. My brother in law insisted I was 6'3" when he started dating my sister. Men who are clearly taller than me and even bigger in general (i.e. tall and muscular/broad) call me "big man" pretty frequently for whatever reason. Wherever I go, people ask me if I'm a bouncer/security guard, police officer, or firefighter even though I'm nowhere near as big/muscular in actuality as real bouncers etc.

Here's an important aspect to gymcelling: posture. Means so much in terms of height.

I've been in the gym for about 4 months now, doing squats, deadlifts etc. you are constantly aware of your posture and form. I know this is sounding ridiculous to some, but when you are aware of your body, you stand upright, you feel like you're floating instead of walking clunkily like I did only a short time ago. Even now typing this I'm sitting upright forward reaching to my laptop with a straight back which is natural to me, I've got a cushion behind my back for when I lean back, not because I feel this is some chore I have to do, but because it feels better to me now. My chair in the office is literally 30 degrees more upright than it was before. If I temporarily sit on someone else's chair to do something I wonder how the f*** anyone sits like this.

Without the gym exercises I'd be sitting back at a ridiculous angle right now, feet up, laptop on thighs, I'd be in the office practically horizontal. I still get soreness from exercises but this passes quickly, I never get inexplicable back pains anymore that lasted for days (which of course I thought was natural, it shouldn't be).

The point? Only losing 10 pounds shouldn't transform you to looking like you're in "great shape" which I'm consistently getting compliments on now, the only difference is that my posture has pushed up my shoulder, legs, my general height, pulled in my gut (which by the way is the reason so many middle aged men have terrible belly's protruding, it's literally their internal organs pushing forward from their shoulders pushing their rib cage down) and now I appear to be 6 feet tall. Even guys who are into fitness have asked why I seem so much taller now.

Also on the OP's point, thicker neck, chest, fore arms and biceps, definitely give the illusion of a more masculine and taller guy.

This is not a cope, only guys who are average height, who have subhuman genetics they won't improve (because it's hard), and want to believe it's 1 point for them, would say that.

But on the other hand, a 5'5 guy being seen as nearly 6 foot? That's similar to the penis enlargement emails I get in the junk folder. C'mon.

Supposedly wearing black and vertical stripes makes people look taller, I have no idea if that effect is real or significant.

Vin is a poor example for 2017. The only movie he actually looked good in and was lean/in shape was the very first fast and the furious.

I like you, but your dissing of the Riddick films is the first time you've really pissed me off on these forums. Your opinion is wrong, inappropriate, and immoral.

only people over 5'9 will say height is over rated.

Anything below 5'7, and you are entering subhuman territory.

5'5 and under = R.I.P

I only know of one 5'5 guy who slays. He has a handsome face, full head of hair and a jacked physique.

The shorter you are, the more you need to make up for it else where.

Yeah, I'd tend to agree.

I'm 5-10 barefoot and don't think I'd even give up three inches of height for a full head...

7 inches of height would be a fair trade for full zac efron hair.

I would maybe give up 0.5 cm for perfect DHT resistant NW1.

I am only willing to give 3 inches... would be a manlet after that. (5.7 1/2")

Hell, I'd probably trade my entire net worth for young Brad Pitt genetics...

How much would someone need to be worth for that to be a bad trade?

I'd rather look like Jason Momoa or Joe Manganiello or Channing Tatum.

as a 5'6 120 lb guy i feel this in my soul. being hot is one thing, but having that respect and fear from big frame + height has got to be f*****g great. on top of it the fear isnt even that bad. people romanticize the gentle giant all the time, but laugh hysterically at the angry compensatory manlet. feeling powerful and dominant and like a leader, towering over other men. dayum.

NOT TO MENTION the huge reach and size advantage it gives you in fights. reach is so important, jon jones dominance in UFC is largely from his reach. first time he fights a dude with equal reach, gustaffson, he has a lot of trouble
