Mature hairline or balding?

My hairline is definently not what it was 4 years ago (24 now), and its been driving me nuts, I live in fear over it. Plus the top of my head feels less dense then in the past:

You can see minutirised hairs at the temple points:

I have been using nano shampoo and topical spironolactone as a pre-empative (as I can't use finasteride yet), still I am concerned as my dad is bald as is my mothers dad. My uncles all have some degree of hair loss, only one NW6.

Thanks

If you are THAT concerned, why don't you start a real treatment? Personally, I think you need to see a psychiatrist first.

Dude you have nothing to worry about. So your hair was better at 20 than at 24? Same as every other man on the planet :dunno: I can see nothing to suggest you have m.p.b.

If both your grandfathers are balding and your dad is balding as well, you've definitely got SOME level of male pattern baldness goin' on. Since your state is pretty well I would wait about a year, carefully monitoring every month how far your hairline is receding. If it's an inch higher in a year from now, I'd get on finasteride STAT.

If you want, you could start right away with some general hair health supplements like MSM, Biotin, Silicon etc.

I have been doing that, and yeah taking general health suppliments - biotin, sillicon, along with multi vit, blackcurrent oil, grapeseed extract. It's really hard to figure out how this is progressing. The V is more prominent, but it seems to be receeding very very slowly. There hasn't been much change in my hairline, just my temple points over the past 6 month. Topical spironolactone seems to have kept the minutirized hairs alive.

But yeah...not really happy about this, checking my hair daily.

Right now nobody is going to notice it apart from you.Wait till you notice shedding and in the mean time take pictures once a month if you are really obsessed about it.

:( I wasn't trying to hurt you.. it's just that you keep coming back here with pictures that show close to zero signs of male pattern baldness.. people have given you enough advice before already but you keep coming back with the same question over and over again. Everyone here would kill to have hair like yours. Your hair is perfectly fine right now. Just keep an eye on it if you are that worried.

500 posts on a hair loss forum?! I fully endorse what Zeroheat said, you'd be better served seeing a psychiatrist than wasting time on here.

I agree. I think you have some sort of complex about this, and I don't think you're aware of how bizarre it is. I used to think you were trolling the boards, but now I think you genuinely believe you have a hair loss problem.

Your hair is fine. At 24, that's a normal hairline. I can understand that if it got quite a bit worse you'd be worried, but at this stage it's frankly absurd that you're concerned. I'm a hair line watcher, and if I saw you in the street I'd think: "lucky b*stard".

Heaven forbid that you actually do lose some hair. If you're reacting like this to a slightly mature hairline, I fear for what you'd do if you actually experienced real loss. Get psychological help before you end up being one of the guys on twenty topicals and internal sex changing hormones to keep your hair.

I was told by a derm to start minoxidil and put it everywhere on my hair, as well as use propecia. I don't know if the derm was quack or not, but sh*t that really scared me. They were using scare tactics like "Ive seen people who come back with significant amount of hairloss, 2 years later after having great hair like yours". Treatment with them cost around £1000

But yeah, its fear more then anything else that is driving me nuts, lost sleep over this sh*t.

OKNow,

I recommend getting on propecia. You have great hair, but if you have noticed yourself, without doubt, that the hairline is moving back and the density is reducing, then chances are it wont just stop.

For you I would say that you options are (my predicted outcomes follow):

1. take one propecia pill per day.
2. do nothing

Route 1 in 10 years your hair will probably loook the same to others as it does now even if you know it has thinned/receded a bit.

Route 2 in 10 years you will be one of those guys who is noticeably losing his hair like everyone, but still got it pretty good compared to most guys.

You dont look like the type of guy destined to be NW7, but I dont think you are the type of guy who will maintain that head of hair forever.

I would stay away from minoxidil if i were you. its much more hassle than the simple act of popping one pill per day. in the long term, the hassle does matter.

good luck!

If you are so preoccupied with hairloss you should consider beginning a proven treatment for the sake of your own peace of mind if nothing else.

I can relate to your situation. My hair was like yours at your age, but then with my career, family, etc., I just didn't pay attention to it or notice it was getting thinner over the years. If I did notice it felt a little thin I would just say to myself, "I better take it easy; that deal/client/etc is stressing me out" and go back to the daily grind. I never suspected a thing until it started to become obviously noticeable, and then I obsessed for a good three months or so, debating treatments, thinking about sides, and so on. It was agony. Almost the moment I popped my first pill I felt like a load had been taken off my shoulders.

I'm not necessarily saying take finasteride, but I think if you do something you will at least feel more in control of your situation and breathe a bit easier. Just my two cents.

Why pursue treatment if you're not losing anything yet? Keep track of it. If you experienc real recession, jump on meds. If you don't, don't.

i can see some receding on the left some like mine did to start with jump on finasteride and forget about it. Try EOD to start with

You don't need to go on propecia and you don't need minoxidil.

Can't believe people are telling you to start consuming internal medication for an ailment you aren't even remotely effected by yet.

Keep an eye on it, monitor it, but don't go making some erratic decision because you are freaking out. It isn't going to suddenly get dramatically worse over night or anything, you've made sure to catch it/watch it very early, so if you do actually start to lose hair it won't be like you left it to late or anything.

Take a bunch of pictures and come back and compare them again on here in 6 months... then you can decide if you need finasteride. Right now though, it'd be ludicrous to start taking meds

if you are going to start on propecia be prepared for sheds and more recession of your temples further back.
my advice to you, dont get on it.

I would like to thicken up my temple points. Willing to apply minoxidil there and there only.

dude honestly even if you become a Norwood -1 overnight, it wont help you. You need to start sorting your life out.
