Maybe Finasteride & Dutasteride Isn't Good For Everyone

could it be that your body got used to the new medication and that you could increase the dsage without further itching (or itching during 1-2 weeks?

I tried something like that that with finasteride. i was on one every other day for nearly 5 or 6 months and i thought maybe my body had got used to taking finasteride by then and i could maybe go on it daily with no more itch... so i went back to every day and the itch ended up caming back... admittedly it wasn't as bad as when i first started taking the first time every day it but it was still more or less a 3 to 5 second strong tingle around the hairline that came and went through out the day.

I am told taking it every other day shouldn't be that much different but for some reason it clearly is.

You’re reading too much into scalp sensations... go off how your hair looks. You keep changing doses all haphazardly when you should’ve just kept on propecia daily for a year

Well i was on finasteride for 6 months or something and i only switched because it didn't seem like it was doing anything. and there is always this thought at the back of my mind... what if Finasteride is actually doing more harm then good right now?

I have read people say that the scalp sensation is actually the hair follicles being attacked...

could not agree more, people panicing directly, set up their own dosis without than blames the drug for not working..
You start something
You stick to it for atleast a year!
You can add things, but you cant remove or lower dosis on anything you started

Well i did take Finasteride every other day for months... i switched to every other day in october 2017 and changed fairly recently to Duta so its not been a year per say but its been quite a few months of use.

Someone said something sarcastically on here recently, they said if it doesn't work after a year, then wait 2 years and if it doesn't work after that try 3... at some point you will realize if its working. it does sound abit silly

i dunno if i can afford to not be cautious. this is not what i signed up for when taking finasteride and Duta. and i ain't even new to it. its been a year since i started this journey to trying to stop it

Neddy, no offence but you tried Finasteride every second day and not every day as all doctors prescribe it and its also what is recomended by the manufacturer.

It might not be the medecine that dont work, it might be that its not used as intended ;)

Take the medication every day and wait a long time. Either it's going to work or it won't.

If I take it every day I can expect a lot of itching and I'm already thinning out as it is, let alone speeding that up abit with taking it daily. If I go through another year of this and nothing positive comes out of it and it turns out finasteride and duta really fucked with my body leading to more hair loss... Well then I won't be able to do much about that by then except be sad and bitter that I didn't take any warning signs when they were there.

People say every other day works just as well as once a day due to how long it stays in your system.

So I am not a finasteride (or anything similar) user but of what I've read about it from other people, it does seem like if this doesn't work for you then there's not much else you could really do.. (I mean you have the RU but that is so untested as far as long term sides). Your hair doesn't seem to have improved much but you should have actually keep a good graphic journal (photos) to see if there is any improvement in the width of your hairs. If all those fine hairs would thicken up you would end up having a pretty nice looking mane. So I guess you either stick to a treatment and have patience or start looking at ways to cope with being bald (adapting styles, attitudes etc.).

I probably should keep a journal but when there is nothing but more receding it kinda makes it feel pointless.

Yes, you should. Otherwise it would be impossible to notice small changes. Also, keep an eye on the miniaturised hairs. That's where, in theory, you should be able to notice improvements if the drug is working for you. I understand it could take 1 year to see changes.

Funny thing is I had more miniaturised hairs before I started finasteride. I was taking saw Palmetto and noticed mini hairs on hairline but they would disappear after a while. With finasteride and duta they are non existent and my scalp look bare.

How long have you been on Saw P? Did u notice any results?

As theory goes, you will initially lose hairs and only then experience regrowth. So it is possible that those hairs shed (their life cycle is shortened anyway) and they might regrow and the get progressively thicker. Also, did you check with a medical professional that your hair is pure male pattern baldness and not other causes?

I don't remember how long i was on saw palmetto. i think it was at least 5 months last year and i had no result. but i did see alot of mini hairs which fooled me on many occasions thinking i was getting new hair growth but they vanished over time.

I haven't checked with any medical professionals. members of my family have the same kinda receding pattern so i'm gonna guess its the same thing and does seem to match male pattern baldness.

My hair is getting so bad that i am coming to the point where i may just stop finasteride or dutasteride.

None of this seems right to me. if i had more hair i may have kept going but then that is what i did with finasteride over 6 months ago. my temples have receded so much that the only direction it can go is to take away the rest of my hairline.

i had faith for such a long time that finasteride was gonna help but i really feel like something is wrong.

I am gonna get my haircut soon because my hair has got quite long. although not in terms of any regrowth, and i am kinda dreading to see the result.

Since you've already started this road, I think you should continue as long as your body tolerates it well with no sides. Give it a total of 12 to 16 months. Your hairline might be messes up from the finasteride/dutasteride induced shed which can take up to a few good months. Only then you might see some results. Probably if you stop now you ain't gonna gain anything and you ain't gonna ever know if treatment truly works for you or not. And when u stop make sure you stop wisely. Do your research o how to stop safely.

I’ll say it again... no propecia or avodart=you will go bald almost surely... propecia=83% chance of keeping your hair atleast 1 year, almost 70% of keeping it 10 years. Statistically you are making a poor choice

My body does seem to tolerate it quite well. The most noticeable side effect currently is the scalp tingle and there is some continued hair miniaturization on both temples where there is a tingle. and i usually get it at night mostly. i just can't help but feel like this is not a shed.

I spent months thinking i was shedding because of finasteride but there always this feeing at the back of my mind that it just seemed more like normal receding but slightly sped up

I am scared that if i wait another year i will have lost most of my hairline and then it will be too late to try anything else. if it turns out i had reflex hyperandrogenicity or increased sensitivity receptors due to finasteride or Duta then i won't find out till its too late.

Id probably lose my hair either way, but say if it came a year later and my hair is worse for wear. then i stop taking propecia or whatever and then the hairloss slows down abit... that would upset me big time because then this would almost be self conflicted sped up hairloss for a year.

if i stopped taking these things id obviously look for an alternative.

I took finasteride for months on end so this is not like i am taking dutasteride for the first time with no experience on taking these sorta things.
