Hi everybody,

I would like to have some feedback about Minoxidil 5% liquid Kirkland from the BIOVEA website. It's been two and a half months that I use it. I have a big shedding (I lose a lot more hair than usual), a lot of itching on the scalp, a lot of eczema on my right hand, etc.

What scares me is that the minoxidil Kirkland is not really effective, that it does more damage than anything else, and that the Biovea website is not 100% reliable.

Can someone reassure me? Or confirm my doubts?

Thank you!
William

Shedding is a natural part of the first 3 months on minoxidil. It's likely telogen efluvium.

The eczema and itching are likely due to the propylene glycol in the minoxidil.

If things don't settle down, the propylene glycol is likely not tolerated by you and continued use might be damaging to your hair and skin.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to look into mixing your own with propanediol, ethanol, and water.

But that's a lot of work most people don't want to do.

What do you advise me to do?

1) Continue minoxidil Kirkland.
2) Replace with another brand of better quality. If so, which brand do you recommend?
3) Simply stop.

When I stop the minoxidil (or replace it with another brand), can I stop it abruptly or do I have to do it gradually?

Continue a couple months. Unfortunately all brands I know of use propylene glycol, so to avoid it you'd have to mix your own. Unless other people here know a brand that doesn't.

Doesn't matter if you stop quickly or slowly.

You can also try using the Rogaine name brand version of minoxidil. People have commented that the Kirkland liquid makes them itchy but Rogaine liquid doesn't. It's several times more expensive though.

Try version without Propylene Glycol there is plenty of it

What brand? Will it be so effective without PG?

Genre... 33 EUR.

Indeed, it's more expensive. Could try to find a supply for only 1 month and try. I'm going to town tomorrow, I'll go through the pharmacy. But how is Rogaine better than Kirkland if they are essentially the same ingredients? Biovea.net ... Is this site reliable for the quality of the product?

I dunno, and I don't think anyone here exactly knows. But it appears that they aren't quite the same thing and I've read multiple times about someone finding Kirkland itchy and not Rogaine. It was explained to me once by an expert that the name brands are slightly better than the generic, including finasteride (which I dont take) too I think. I personally use 3ml of Kirkland and 1 ml of Rogaine every day, all at night.

Are any of you guys aware of a PG free brand?

In principle it does not need to affect absorption as 1,3-propanediol offers similar minoxidil solubility and should be gentler for people with PG irritation.

So it is possible to make good pg free minoxidil.

@IdealForehead ; according to you pgg is not necessary for minoxidil absorption?

No reason i can think of that it should be. But very few simple skin relevant compounds are documented to sufficiently dissolve minoxidil. That is the primary issue.

PG is the cheapest most mass produced molecule that can dissolve minoxidil well so it is 40-50% of most formulations.

Dipropylene glycol dissolves it similarly and is slightly less irritating.

1,3-propanediol also dissolves it similarly and i find this most comfortable.

All are conventional molecules about the same sizes used for skin creams and moisturizers. They just have slightly different molecular conformations and thus tolerability.

Those are the only possible substitutions i am aware of.

Merci countjulian,

In facts, that was my first question.

I have plenty of unpleasant side effects, but still no beneficial effects. Does anyone here know if biovea minoxidil kirkland is effective?

To me this was the best product:
https://www.biovea.com/fr/product_d...ADO-FOLIGAIN.G5-MINOXIDIL-5-fixacao-leve-60ml

I applied to the balding patches, mostly on the crown. I'm currently using Kirkland but not from Biovea or eBay and so far I haven't shed so maybe it's working in maintaining the ton of the regrowth I got from the gel. I've read that it can take up to a month for the shed to start when quitting minoxidil, I'm still not safe since it's only been a couple of weeks on Kirkland and a full week of nothing  I used the gel everyday up to Kirkland.
