saf,

were you on finasteride before your hair transplants? and when did you get your hair transplant's? what was your norwood before transplants and what is it now?

speculum is on finasteride now so even if he is nw3 right now he can expect to stay below nw4 for 10 years at least. although i will say it concerns me a lot that he is already an Norwood 3 in his late teens. that's a very aggressive hair loss.

Check your Norwood scale speculum is no more than a nw2!!

finasteride may help speculum keep the hair he still has but I think its more likely than not that he may yet lose a little bit more at the front.
My hair was probably the same as his at his age.

As for me, being in my early 30's now I did'nt know about meds until a few years ago by then I was already about nw4/5 anyway. When I started propecia I did'nt realy know much about it and was expecting miracle results of hair regrowth. So I took it for about 6months and when I saw no change I just gave up. After hair transplant's (I've had 4 in the past 2 yrs!!) I'm back to about Norwood 2 coverage but my hair is extremly thin (I have to use dermatch) especialy on the crown which needs more work done on it.

yes, that's the pic i was talking about. speculum is a great kid but i'm just being realistic. someone who is nw3 in their teens is likely to go to at least a NW6 later in life, if not NW7.

Yep thats a definate 3! Much different to the webcam pic (My mistake).
At this stage I dont think finasteride or dutasteride will get him any hair back but maybe it will stop him progressing past nw4 it all depends if he's a responder. Maybe a thickener spray like 'mane' would help his current situation.
Like Jayman said from my own observations it seems that the guys who start earliest go onto have the highest degrees of loss nw6/7.
Maybe shaving is a good option the thing is its hard to tell if it will suit you or not you just have to buzz it and see.
It must be tough for a youngster to be facing this but I can tell you it gets easier to handle as you get older and find that your not the only one.

thanks s.a.f. I'll see if I like it. If I don't i'll justh have to figure out
something else. Here's hoping.

Nathaniel: awesome. Thanks for that. I won't shave. But I do think it would be
healthy for me to get a buzzcut and still take Finasteride. I'm getting to the
point where, more then 50% of the time, I won't go out because of the wind.

These past few days have been good.

On friday I went back to school and actually enjoyed myself there. Shock. My mind wasn't on my hair. I went to work after that and enjoyed that too. Shock. My hair wasn't on my mind.

Saturday I had work too. I enjoyed it. After that, I decided to cave and go out with a friend which ended us up back at his house for the night. I'm bisexual so you do the math

But today's been crappy. I got dropped home in the morning and after a while I was examining myself again. It's this damn house and all of the memories and the mirrors in practically every room.

I've updated my pics in my story thread but i'll post here too.

Today, after 9 weeks of finasteride.

There are two more pics here: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... c&start=20
but I think those two are good to compare because it's the same angle, same lighting, and flash on.

I don't get anxiety attacks like I used to when I took that first photo.

This might stun people.

But here is a picture of me at eight months old, gosh at the large forehead!

nwwhatthehellgat1.jpg

Looks like I just never noticed my funny hair until recently.

I mean look, that's a normal shot and you can see scalp in the middle and a n.w 2.5 hairline with really thin hairs covering up the outer, while the back is thick as hell.

Maybe, i've had less hair in that area the whole time, and i'm just shedding all of my anagen hairs there now?

So yeah. I was never ever a NW1. I'm not saying that's a good thing. But it does mean that I haven't lost as much hair as people think I have.

Wow you seem to be responding pretty well to finasteride bro.

Judging from your "kid" picture you do seem to have a natural high forehead. I say keep up the regimen and hope for the best bro.

Now heres a shot of me at around age 8. It looks like after I was little, hair grew in that scalp spot and I turned into a NW2:

[edit] I don't wanna post my child pics here, so if you wanna see PM me. JayMan, i've send you a few :p

Thanks JayMan, you always reply to me. *passes you a beer, or a soda, whatever your comfortable with*

I went to work today for 9 hours. YIKES! It's labour weekend, so no school and pay is at 1.5x normal so obviously I jumped at the chance to work a whole day @ $13.50 an hour. So yeah, i'm not letting my hair affect myself from doing things I REALLY wanna do. Which is good.

I wasn't thinking about it much at all really. I mean yeah I got a few comments about my hair, but they weren't bad ones. Just "you look different" "it looks alright" and a comparrison with this guys hair except mine looks better because i'm "younger".

Heck, I was more pissed off that I smell of Pot suddenly and I don't know why. (the only time I had any was 1.5 years ago, to try it and I didn't like it). So I have no idea why I smell like weed.

Right now i'm at home and feeling good. No mirror analysing, no stress, no worries. In the last seven days i've had more good days then bad. Which is GOOD because in the weeks before that, I definately wasn't.

I remember when I first seriously thought about my hairloss in August, I was crying myself to sleep, hugging my teddy bears to keep me company, and thinking about how fucked my life would be in a few years.

Now i'd say i've shifted to complacent. Probably because my hair looks OK, or i've gotten more used to it, or that i'm doing something about it.

[edit] I've posted this at the beginning too:

Disclaimer (oct23rd): I've decided to turn this thread into a blog that sometimes (almost all the time) is about me that covers hairloss. Why don't I just keep going on about this in my story thread? Well because this is also about my life, not about my hairloss regimen or progress, although it includes it- of course. So read, weap, smile, or get angry at anything I have to say. If anything positive comes out of this (inspiration? not likely) then cool, if not then it's a place for me to ramble and mumble.

Did you only notice you were losing hair in August or was that just the time that it really hit you? Being a Norwood 3, I thought you would have noticed your hair loss some time ago...unless you've receded that much in a few months (which would be scary).

Hmmm well when I was 12 I looked at my hair in the mirror and noticed I had a little peak thing going on.

And through 13-15 I just spiked it up. Around 16 I was playing with my hair a lot and i could feel the front was thinner then everywhere else, but I could still style it fine so it didn't bother me.

3-4 months ago is when I cut my hair so short that I had to notice it, and that's when I started analysing myself.

I definately am losing hair though, I know that.

My nanogen came in today.

It doesn't work amazing spectacular wonders, obviously.

But it's pretty damn awesome I must say. Some Light brown Nanogen Fibers + Lots of hairspray =

1. I went for a run down to the shop today in the wind, and felt good.
2. I went to a mates house I hadn't been too in 5 years across the road to say hi.
3. I went to the warehouse and bought some sandals, jandals, dumbbells and body wash sh*t.

It's amazing how with my mind off my hair, I can get so much done in so little time.
