I'm probably in the same boat as Chromeo.

I've done 8 rolls with plenty of blood, with 1.5mm and 2.0mm needles.
These 8 rolls have been spaced over roughly 13 weeks.
[I did about 5 rolls before these, but I never applied enough pressure back then in order to get really gory. So I don't count these are proper rolling sessions]

I went from minoxidil 2x daily, to 1x daily about 4 weeks ago.

I can honestly say I have not seen a single new hair anywhere on my head.

What I have seen is thickening of the diameter of existing hairs.
My hair on top of my head feels like donkey hair. Impossible to style. I need the maximum strength stuff when I apply gel if I want to make my hair do as I want to.
Previously, my hair on top felt like silk. Very smooth and fine.

Cosmetically, it does look denser overall, which, of course, is very encouraging.
But no new hairs, I'm sure of this.

I plan to continue with rolling indefinitely.
I'm hoping it will allow me to keep what I have not yet lost.
... and I'm praying it will somehow produce new hairs somewhere down the road.

I see no reason to stop rolling. It's cheap, it seems to be doing something.
Only thing going against it, is the bloody pain!
I ordered a 85 needle stamp, in hopes of overall reduction in suffering during needling.

This is only my second roll, I'm focusing on my "bad" temple. Is this about the right amount of damage to do? I had a couple drinks and applied numbing cream to go this hard:

Chromeo are you using minoxidil as well? No finasteride right?

On another thread, Chromeo said he has never touched finasteride...

By the way Chromeo... were you not one of the guys who said cetirizine was working for them?... why did you dropped it?... I mean, if it really works the way some guys said it does, I think it would be a very good idea to use it along the dermaroller... I might give it a shot...

Combination of microneedling and glycolic acid peels for the treatment of acne scars in dark skin.

Sharad J.

Skinfiniti the Aesthetic Skin and Laser Clinic, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION:

Acne scars can cause emotional and psychosocial disturbance to the patient. Various modalities have been used for the treatment of acne scars like punch excision, subcision, peels, microdermabrasion, unfractionated and fractioned lasers. The latest in the treatment armamentarium is microneedling. Acne scars commonly coexist with postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. A combination of microneedling and glycolic acid (GA) peels was found to give excellent results in the treatment of such scars. The aim was to study the efficacy of a combination of microneedling with glycolic peel for the treatment of acne scars in pigmented skin.

METHOD:

Thirty patients in the age group of 20-40 years with atrophic box type or rolling scars with postinflammatory hyperpigmentation were chosen for the study. Two groups were made. The first group comprised of 30 patients in whom only microneedling was performed once in 6 weeks for five sessions. In the second group of 30 patients, a combination of microneedling and 35% GA peels was carried out. Patients from both groups were evaluated on the basis of Echelle d'Evaluation clinique des Cicatrices d'acné classification.
RESULTS:

Based on the objective scoring and its statistical analysis, there was significant improvement in superficial and moderately deep scars (grade 1-3). There was also improvement in skin texture, reduction in postacne pigmentation in the second group.
CONCLUSION:

Microneedling is a simple, inexpensive office procedure with no downtime. It is safe in Indian skin (skin types III-IV). The combined sequential treatment with GA peel caused a significant improvement in the acne scars without increasing morbidity.

Tocotrienols suppress proinflammatory markers and cyclooxygenase-2 expression in RAW264.7 macrophages.

Mun-Li Yam, Sitti Rahma Abdul Hafid, Hwee-Ming Cheng, Kalanithi Nesaretnam

Malaysian Palm Oil Board, 6 Persiaran Institusi, Bandar Baru Bangi, 43000, Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia.
Lipids (Impact Factor: 2.56). 09/2009; 44(9):787-97. DOI:10.1007/s11745-009-3326-2 Source: PubMed

ABSTRACT Tocotrienols are powerful chain breaking antioxidant. Moreover, they are now known to exhibit various non-antioxidant properties such as anti-cancer, neuroprotective and hypocholesterolemic functions. This study was undertaken to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) and individual tocotrienol isoforms namely delta-, gamma-, and alpha-tocotrienol on lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. The widely studied vitamin E form, alpha-tocopherol, was used as comparison. Stimulation of RAW264.7 with lipopolysaccharide induced the release of various inflammatory markers. 10 mcirog/ml of TRF and all tocotrienol isoforms significantly inhibited the production of interleukin-6 and nitric oxide. However, only alpha-tocotrienol demonstrated a significant effect in lowering tumor necrosis factor-alpha production. Besides, TRF and all tocotrienol isoforms except gamma-tocotrienol reduced prostaglandin E(2) release. It was accompanied by the down-regulation of cyclooxygenase-2 gene expression by all vitamin E forms except alpha-tocopherol. Collectively, the data suggested that tocotrienols are better anti-inflammatory agents than alpha-tocopherol and the most effective form is delta-tocotrienol.

I remember reading that first study abstract some time ago but anecdotal evidence I found things can go wrong fast with chemical peels + microneedling.

Weak, I can barely see redness in the skin. Do the whole scalp as well.

I'm doing the rest of the scalp it's just hard to show pics cause I have good coverage. What more can I do, I'm using a 192 needle 1.5, completely bottoming out the needles and doing at least 4 passes in different directions for that. I'm just not getting much redness, just lots of little bleeders.

Wounding is the goal and the derma roller is a weak wounding device.. do more than few passes.. get that heat and blood going!

Interesting Armando.. Hyperkeratinization is the real answer to hairloss?

Salt has natural relaxing and soothing properties, and it also helps circulation and exfoliates your skin.

Topical Sodium works like Minoxidil, acts as a channel opener? or just support the sodium/potassium pump??

Look at this guy on immortal forum using Glycolic Acidc peels: http://immortalhair.forumandco.com/t9447-scalp-peeling-with-20-glycolic-acid-great-results

Really really interesting BeliefiSKEY! :salut:

"The key finding of this study is that, after full face transplantation, there is a consistent, extensive vascular reorganization that works in concert with the larger vessels that are connected at the time of surgery," Dr. Kumamaru said.

Probably why hair transplant works as well?:listen:

Yep! That's exactly what I thought after reading the study. Crazy how the body is so resilient.

i would really like to buzz same length again as i am getting closer to two month rank. but believe me the difference is dramatic.the best part is how it feels when you touch the hair. they feel strong thick one direction lol.

and many times the longer hair show more easily the thinning. people tend to buzz to hide it as much as they can.

as i said the difference is dramatic.

As far as I'm concerned, the Jason5 & PrettyFly83 results along with the microscopic pics Squeegee has been posting have been the best proof I've seen that this works. For me, I don't see all that much of a difference when people with grown-out hair are posting pics after just a few rolls. It's too early to see much difference there and it's all down to personal opinion. People may want to believe they are seeing cosmetic difference at 6 or 7 weeks but I'd have to suggest that's wishful thinking on their part.

Dermarolling results in new hairs coming through which are pretty short and fine. It takes time for them to grow out, thicken and darken. There may be a degree of thickening of existing hairs, but overall it's going to take time for the real cosmetic changes to come. At these early stages, you really need to see the scalp in this kind of close-up, near-microscopic detail to be sure that those changes are really happening.

...and trust me....the changes are happening. :jump:

I think people may consider "results" differently. What kind of results supermusic? Like hair getting thicker or ...

hair getting thicker .
and totally stop shedding and vellus and some new little dark hair around the hairline area.
I noticed too the crown are getting better cause i dont need toppic.
I roller one a week, and minoxidill 5% one time daily, use a 540 dermaroller. Only a few blood points after dr.
I compare the results with the first time I took finas, but now is like much more fast.

Most report an increase in bleeding over time, could it be that dermarolling is avtually increasing blood flow to the scalp hence improving the impact of topicals? (Not just through better absorbtion).

Deep dermarolling with bleeding is normally done once every 4-6 weeks, otherwise you can deplete the skin over time
