From what i understand, you are only supposed to use nizoral shampoo 2-3 times per week. So on the other 4 days a week do you not shampoo your hair at all, or do u use other regular shampoos. if the answer is the latter, any suggestions for a "regular" shampoo? Thanks!

Shampoo with a regular shampoo on the days you aren't using Nizoral. I even use my regular shampoo before I apply Nizoral; I like to think by cleaning my hair first I'm making the Nizoral more effective, but who knows. A thickening shampoo is always popular with guys with thinning hair, lots of people swear by Aveda Pure Abundance, but I can't find a store around me that carries it. Every shampoo brand has a thickening product in their arsenal, you'll have to find one you like.

Just picked up a bottle earlier today for $8 at the supermarket. It's terrific... it's got a good texture and doesn't go on your hair like whipped cream like some other conditioners. I think I'll use it on the days when I use T/Gel... I actually consider it the harshest of the shampoos I rotate between (nizoral, Revivogen), which is probably due to the coal tar.

Thanks Cassin!

Is the conditioner mainly for a cosmetic/feel good aspect? I used to use the T/Gel conditioner but I generally don't find Nizoral or T/Gel really drying on my hair so I stopped using conditioner altogether.

same here as a matter of fact after using nizoral it makes my hair look and feel conditioned, pretty much the opposite effect. I even use it before I go out to party because it makes that much of a difference to me. I've been using the 1% for 8 years and the 2% for 6 months so far, may the drying effect takes a much longer time with 2%?

Cassin, how does the Nizoral shampoo and Tea Tree Conditioner compare with Aveda Pure Abundance shampoo and conditioner for volume and thickness?

I would still think it's best not to use a condition right after Nizoral, for the same reason you wouldn't use another shampoo right after. But I could be wrong. *shrugs*

To play it a little safe, I use the conditioner only on my T/Gel days.

It doesn't at all. Aveda is the best their is. nizoral is just for hair loss.

Dr Lee says its very important to always use conditioner after Nizoral.

I wonder what is the rationale, though? I know Bryan mentioned a study that showed even if you wash hair with something harsh (like ether) which will strip your hair of all its oils, the hair will still be lustrous and healthy. Unless there is something unique to Nizoral. I'd definitely like to see this topic discussed further!

Any particular reason why he's an idiot?

Anyway, i've always used a conditioner with nizoral, and not noticed any bad effects, though a poster did copy and paste a warning from the makers of Nizoral not too, which stopped me in my tracks somewhat, but i still don't think its to bad a thing to do if you use the nizoral first then conditioner, as opposed to mixing it all together in one.

Yea I really doubt it would majorly impede the effects of Nizoral. But as Bryan said any supposed 'oils' that a harsh shampoo might remove from hair doesn't really damage that hair. Nonetheless I still use the Tea Tree conditioner about 1x or 2x a week because I find my hair more agreeable if it gets some conditioning.

I use a shampoo with 1% and a Trezame condition which works great. (Has aloe vera and almond oil).

Just out of interest though, as nizoral is an anti dandruff shampoo....surely the drying out the scalp, excess itching and irratation just would make dandruff worse who was using it as an anti dandruff shampoo and not for male pattern baldness?

Same here, my hair feels no different after nizoral than my regular shampoo and I don't use conditioner at all

I used American Crew Tea Tree oil conditioner but I am sure any quality Tree Tree oil conditioner would be just as good.

I went to the store today to pick up some more conditioner and they were out of American Crew so I picked up this stuff.

We'll see if its as good.

Well, if used for dandruff, the instructions say to only use once a week (or was it every 2 weeks?) once you've gotten rid of the dandruff to prevent it from coming back. I think the problem of Nizoral drying the scalp are for the people using it every 3 days in a male pattern baldness regimen.
