The image of socialism that Americans (and others) have been sold-an all-powerful government or high taxes or what the soviets practiced isn't socialism at all. What is being practiced in those cooperatives mentioned in the NY op-ed is closer to traditional socialism: worker ownership of businesses not state ownership, thoroughly democratic, no hierarchy, no central power structures etc


I think you'd have to be seriously stubborn to argue that public ownership of hospitals is worse than the alternative.

Why not distribute some flyers to the OWS people pointing out to them that Ron Paul is very anti-war. Give them an actual goal.

I know many democrats on here don't like any republican candidates, but do you really want to risk someone like Newt getting into office? Imagine millions of crazies getting all excited about their right wing ideal, Newt, who wants to execute marijuana dealers. Sure, he would probably lose, but if the economy is bad enough, what if he wins? It might be better to have Obama run against Ron Paul so that if a republican wins, at least it is not the worst one.
