Opinions on having a son knowing he will be bald?

It's an issue that tears me apart.

To have kids or not to have kids?

On one hand it's not fair to deny myself the joys of parenthood and the satisfaction of carrying on my bloodline and yadda yadda yadda. People want kids right?

On the other hand my bloodline is cursed. Cursed with embarassment to any male which it borns. I mean I know if I end up having a son he will be bald. And he will most likely hate it and slightly if not majorly resent me for it.

In all honestly I'd love to have a girl my first shot and just stop there. Of course it ain't that easy.

What do you guys think?

I very much agree that it is a difficult decision. By having a male child It's like saying :'I'm going to have a child even though there is a very strong chance that this child will inherit a physical and therefore social hindrance that will probably tramautise him and alienate him for decades of his adult life and possibly even late teenage years...I know that that risk is there, but I am willing to take it for the sake of having children'. But then what is the point in giving the so called gift of life and having a child if that life is going to be full of pain and anguish. I know everyone on this board will disagree with me, but I personally will never ever have kids unless somehow i can determine the sex and have a girl, or if affordable and guaranteed to work treatments come out within the next decade to treat male pattern baldness. What I read on this forum and hear outside of it from traumatised male pattern baldness sufferers is enough to make me think that having a male child is just not an option for me, I dont want to be responsible for so much suffering; id even go so far as to say it would be selfish on my part.. I know better than most what male pattern baldness is like being as i reached nw6 at 22, and I would not like to inflict such a severe condition upon anybody, let alone my own son....unless i have the baby with a black girl, in which case he might get away with it.

Captian Obvious. Obviously you're insecure of having a child.

Having a children in this world with more humans than necessary is a big responsability. So you must have mind and conditions to have it. That includes not only financial but also social and emocional.

You cannot only think about yourself but about others. Remember your kid is going to ocuppy our space and resources which are scarse. So it's better you to make him a valuable kid. Someone who can give something more to planet Earth.

We're not rabbits.

From the way you're talking, it seems as if you're trying to breed a "super" rabit out of your son.

Yes, the world is overcrowded, and what better way to get rid of the balding race than to stop populating it?

WTF!!!!! Super rabbit? Only if he can turn a NW7 into NW1.

A father would love more: A bald son or a NW1 son?

Of course it is the NW1 son.

I think breed should be controlled. People with more kids should pay more taxes and to have one there should be a licence to it.

too true....there are far too many people in this world already.

give the planet a break and stop breeding for a generation.

man has cursed this planet and does not deserve it....we cannot go on acting selfishly and thinking we have a right to 1, 2 or 3 kids.

the planet has been raped, swamped and destroyed by greedy humans and sooner or later the inevitable will have to be introduced as a world policy, just like the chinese have done already:

1 child maximum per family.

give the planet back to the animals....the dinosaurs were better rulers than us.

and i bet they were never concerned about being bald.

This is not a consideration for having kids...having healthy kids is important so unless you can pass on some chronic disease to them then you shouldhave kids.

HM will be out way before they have a problem along with many other cures/preventions so its not even going to be an issue.

Androgenic Alopecia (male pattern baldness) is a chronic disease.

The root of my point was this:

Yes the world IS overpopulated and there is really no need for humans to procreate so rapidly at this point so, hey, why not one less insecure baldie in the world? I mean I am totally for the slowing of human population and if I take one for the team I could be doing a favor to the world by ensuring one less male pattern baldness to go around. Then again that is a sick thought and I highly doubt it will stop me from having kids. It's just a thought.

its not. its just something cosmetical. that you suffer from it is a disease but that comes somewhere else from. you have a disease but not male pattern baldness. its just your life thats a whole disease.

Please dont breed one more problem to the world.

Unfortunatly its mainly the idiots and wasters that are breeding. You need a licence to own a TV but anybody with no brains/job can reproduce. The fact is that the earths population will be in real trouble in 30/40 yrs time. (rant over)

My friend, I hate to argue with posters here, but you must understand that male pattern baldness, in itself, is an ACTUAL DISEASE. Here it is listed in the medical Disease Database:

http://www.diseasesdatabase.com/ddb7773.htm

You can find tons of information displaying that it's a disease.

Funny how male pattern baldness is correlated to associated with coronary heart disease and insulin resistance.

IT IS A DISEASE.

you're getting very close to the mark, saf.

a licence to have a child might sound a bit too orwellian at the moment but big brother is already with us (on the telly, anyway).

we cannot go on breeding at this rate. when will these idiots realise.

sooner or later, a curb on breeding is inevitable.
