Because of the childhood history of your hair loss and your current history of hair loss, it is possible that androgenic alopecia (standard male pattern hair loss) may not be the cause. You might have another illness/deficiency - you should go see a dermatologist.

See "Table 1" for some information on other types of hair loss - https://www.aafp.org/afp/2009/0815/p356.html

If it is not male pattern hair loss, dutasteride will not be very effective.

Do you have any family history of autoimmune conditions?

If you have any higher-quality pictures of your hair from childhood, bring those with you too.

Are those pictures with or without fibers?

Yes, autoimmune diseases could cause or agitate hair issues. I went years with an autoimmune disease and never focused on it because I had tunnel vision on my hair loss. Now I'm finally treating my autoimmune disease and I'm already seeing a positive change.

Psoriasis.

I ignored it because it was mostly only present on the back and sides of my scalp, surrounded by really thick hair and not noticeable unless I had cut my hair short. I am on week 2 of using Otezla (Apremilast).

This article made me interested in that particular medication. For the people it works for, they typically could see without a doubt it made a positive impact by week 6 and significant regrowth by week 12.

My psoriasis is already 95% cleared up. It helped the overall appearance of my skin, even in areas not previously impacted by psoriasis. The first few days suck because it really fucks with your stomach, and the first 2x 30mg dosage day sucks, but by day 8, which is day 3 of taking 2x 30mg, my stomach went back to normal.

The study showed a good response to the medication in treating alopecia, but notes that a clinical trial peformed by another company did not demonstrate the same findings. I'm curious if the clinical trial consisted of people with just hair loss, or a mix of autoimmune and hair loss like the linked article.

I didn’t read this entire thread because it is getting sort of long. I just read your post and see that you started losing hair at the age of 7 years old. It would be strange for your hair loss to be related to androgens at that age because you didn’t even start puberty yet. Before trying anything I would get a trichoscopy. This is something a professional does or at the least something you can do yourself to evaluate the hair follicle. Everyone seems more prone to write hair loss off as androgenetic alopecia instantly but that’s not always the cause of hair loss. There is alopecia areata, acute telogen effluvium, chronic telogen effluvium, scarring alopecias, seborrheic dermatitis, and many other forms of hair loss. A trichoscopy would be able to more accurately pinpoint the cause.

This could be a very basic starting point:

Cheap microscope that could be used to look at the follicles:

It looks like you have some serious flaking going on the dandruff or possibly dermatitis. Do you have plaque on your skin? Does your skin look normal or does it look red/inflamed?

My skin looks normal, I have huge amounts of flakes and itchy rashes that keep me thinking about my hair.

If you have huge amounts of flakes and rashes on your scalp than your problem is more than just pattern hair loss. You have a poor or bad skin condition that is also having a negative effect on your hair. You could go to a dermatologist and ask for a corticosteroid to help with the rash and most likely swelling that rashes cause. Alternatively, you can buy a product called scalpicin which contains hydrocortisone 1% and that should help with the itch. To get rid of the flaking which propagates the itching, you could use an anti dandruff shampoo like head and shoulders, selsun blue, or bakers p & s shampoo which contains salicylic acid. If the flakes still don’t budge I would recommend bakers p & s liquid leave in treatment.

Funny how your dick-less self posted a picture without the concealer. You are a f*****g joke. I get it, you are all disgruntled because YOU look like sh*t 24/7. Look at my profile picture, you see any hair loss? You are a pathetic little b**ch.
Calm down, my friend. I suggest people buzz sometimes. I’m harsh but I also try to help.

I don’t use concealer. My hair looks fine.

Yes, your hair looks fantastic lol

Lets just agree to disagree. I think a buzz is better than using concealers and shiet.

I care that he blocks people from getting real and productive advice by inputting his garbage incel-based, floppy-dick induced, hatred filled, unneeded opinion.
this would be quite raw if it were true. You flip out for calling me a troll and then this. Ouch. Luckily I don’t have finasteride sides anymore.

take care bro. You sound stressed.
