Hello everyone, just wanted to let you guys know of a company that caught my interest, and one which I really hope @Admin will talk to soon for us. The company in question is PolarityTE. PolarityTe caught my interest because of this in particular.

They have created functional tissue with hair, so right off the bat they have peaked my interest. Then I found this.

"If successful in the burn market, we plan to explore entry into other markets, such as acute and chronic wounds, cosmetic/scar revisions, and hair regeneration." (http://www.polarityte.com/products)

After looking through some of their investor slides I found this slide which was very much like the slide that illustrated Replicel's procedure. This illustrates what the actual procedure may consist of for skin regeneration.

The best part you ask?

Market entry in 1H 2018. Granted there probably will be delays per usual, but that potential deadline has to be somewhat accurate considering how soon it actually is.

I encourage everyone to look into the company themselves (mostly because I dont feel like digging through all this information my self). I have seen the stocks for this company are strong, an the team that is behind the company also seems strong. There are pictures of their burn results which are impressive inside the slides found here, along with where the rest of the slides where found.

2018 for fixing your burns.
For hair it may take much longer (5-15 years)
The number of players in hair loss research is growing, rivaly is always good.

Hey, I just remembered this. This dude got a face transplant after being turned into a ghoul after an accident in his job. He was bald, very bald and he regrew a full head of hair 1 year later.
Transplanting scalp skin with living follicles may be the cure we are all looking for.
Now that I think about it, transplanting a face of a dead man as your own is pretty f*****g creepy. That is why the skin must be artificially created. And will the body accept artificially created skin or you will have to take medical drugs for life after such a procedure?

Hair restoration using full thickness skin grafting? Intriguing potential but it seems it would depend on basically scalping the patient and suturing on new skin with follicles. Although not much different than transplant techniques, it seems a bit extreme. Coming soon: Apache Hair Restoration Clinic.

Some of this stuff sounds a little pie in the sky to me still. I will believe it when I see it being done, but I hope it does end up working well. Helping people with skin or burn issues is a noble goal, and will help a lot of people. Maybe one day we will see this kind of thing for hair.
Of course all this stuff is going to be priced for millionaires anyway, but still at least its an option for someone that can afford it

The race is on. It's not a matter of if, it's just a question of who will be first.

A couple of points to think about:
  • As mentioned, the timeline seems really optimistic - probably too much. The more the merrier though, as they say.
  • If you had to graft an entire layer of skin onto your scalp, considering that it will be grown from your own cells and thus present full histocompatibility, I'd say the risks of a rejection due to immunological factors are non-existent.Thus, you wouldn't need to be on meds your whole life.
  • Regardless, if you can grow skin from your own cells, what's to stop you from harvesting only select portions of it - i.e. your own hair follicles - and then transplanting them onto your scalp?

its race between tsuji and the rest of these bioprinting companies. and with more teams researching, the faster the cure will occur. if you view how rapidly the bioprinting industry is growing and expanding, its hard not to be optimistic. and we have never seen this many teams working on the cure for hairloss. I expect more to pop up as scars and hairloss is a billion dollar industry.

I imagine they would use this skin to extract grafts and implant the follicles and not to chop your scalp and then sew the printed skin.

Of course the main use would be to test drugs.

“My leg feels as close to normal skin as I can imagine, and there is even some hair growth. If I had to choose between SkinTE and another skin graft, I would choose SkinTE every time because it is actually working.”

While I think that their technology coukd benefit us in copy and pasting donor area skin and hair, there is no way we will see it at least until 2020 applied in Androgenetic Alopecia patients. The condition was to be succesful in birn treatment market, it does not look that there were many patients and it could take long.

I really don’t know how I feel about taking my scalp off and putting a new one on...

Haha. Look I would have to see how well the end result is before I do some crazy sh*t like that. Like if there is next to nonscarring and it all looks natural, sure. It would be incredibly hard to create your same exact hairline though.
