Our minds free and contented
Thrive on these sweet diversions
And in such innocent pleasures
They banish all other desires.
The dance, the chase and the woods
Exempt us from the rules
And the afflictions that Love
Imposes on hearts at Court.
For in moving ever from place to place
We thwart that god
So that he is unable to wound us
With his arrows as he intends.
Thus, protecting ourselves against him,
And spending our days without care,
We try to rob him of the pride
Of making us his slaves.
But it is indeed true that as we flee
He pursues us constantly
And with such persistence
That finally he enters our eyes.
Our minds free and contented
Thrive on these sweet diversions
And in such innocent pleasures
They banish all other desires.
