Potential gynecomastia after 3 years with finasteride - is this possible?

Hi,

Like the title says, I fear I may be developing signs of gynecomastia behind one of my nipples. It’s not yet visible to any worrying degree, although there is lumpy breast tissue behind there and it can be tender at times.
I had hair loss surgery 3 years ago and have been taking finasteride for as long. I took it everyday for the first year and a half and then dropped the dose to once every other day for the next year and a half. Up until now I have had no worries. But this is making me think it could be a potential side effect from the finasteride. I thought signs of gynecomastia would be visible within the first year at least, not after three, and since it is only behind 1 nipple it’s throwing me all off.

I have been to my GP twice and they have said it’s probably just natural tissue buildup, but I have a feeling they don’t know much about finasteride the way they were talking about it. They ruled out cancer so that’s good, so I am coming to forums to hear some opinions and experiences to try and back up or put to rest some of my worries.

I was thinking of stopping finasteride for maybe 3 months to see if there is any reduction. Is that long enough to know?
During this time, how much hair would I lose? And if i lose hair, is it actually permanent loss or is it just falling out as the hair shrinks and i actually have more like a year before it would potentially go permanently?

Thank you
