Hello guys, I have a son who recently turned 18 and he asked me a few days ago "Dad, am I going bald ?" ..well, I'm 49 and I have the male pattern baldness (my father is bald since he was 30) but I stopped almost 10 years ago with finasteride+minoxidil+nizoral and some derma rolling.

Now, obviously I don't want to get my son on propecia while he's still developing so I wanted to get advice from some of our younger guys here who maybe started earlier and share their recommendations: just minoxidil + nizoral and derma rolling ? or just nizoral and derma roller ?
thank you for your help!

Is he going bald? If its just the crown then go with minoxidil. When i was young that is how it started for me and the minoxidil really helped for a few years to thicken things up and slow down the process.

I've never had any issues with it but my temples are still thinning while on dutasteride so maybe it's not even doing jack sh*t to my dht levels
Ye dutasteride fucked my hair after 1.5 years of use. Lost like 10 hairs per day it was crazy. Semen just seeped out slowly and ended up ejaculating 1 drop of semen..it castrated me but my hair got twice as thin. Hormones man.

What DHT related development is there to have after 18?
Well, I don't know exactly, that's why I'm asking ...I'm not sure if 18 yrs is a clear threshold and everything hormonal related already happened...maybe there's need for a stabilization phase ...I was thinking 21 is a more appropriate age to start with all medication

Just the crown, is a bit visible but not a big bald spot ; he said he has some colleagues also 18 yrs old who are clearly going bald so his case is not that bad but he became self-conscious about it. And I'm trying to solve it but without creating problems elsewhere (sex life).
So you say that just minoxidil might help for a few years (let;s say until he's 21) when he can start finasteride ?

how old were you when you started ? I'm just trying to asses if for a 18 yrs old finasteride could do more harm than good.
thanks

21 is old enough to start Finesterid for sure but like others have said you could start it now.
Just get the equate brand liquid at Walmart.
Apply it at night and then wash hair in the morning. You could try it once a day and see what happens.
