you need to add few additional options
"regrowth and no shed"
"no regrowth and no shed"
"maintenance after one year"
"maintenance after two years"

well, if you read the instructions this poll was intended for those who have had obvious sheds that then ended (resulting in maintenance or loss at normal rate) . It's the regrowth of the shedded hairs that is of interest.

Maybe another poll can be started to evaluate ALL the possible outcomes of proprecia usage. Then those options you mention could be of use.

Thanx to everyone for their votes and replies. Continue to do so and keep this poll alive.

Siberian...just out of curiosity...if it worked for you for 5 years, why did you stop taking it?

I am currently on it - 5 1/2 months. My plan is to stay on it as long as it is effective and then switch to avodart. we'll see though when that time comes

The wifey and I decided to try for a kid, and at the time, Merck hadn't officially said it was OK to use when trying to conceive.

As soon as I saw Merck said it was cool, I went back on it.

looking for other polls

Anyone know of any larger polls than this one? I have been following this thread and find it really strange that propecia actually accerlerates hair loss. Call it what you will, shedding or whatever, but if the hair doesn't grow back, statistically speaking, then thats hair loss (= gone forever).

Based on this poll and the shedding threads, why would anyone want to take a pill that has a higher probability of making your hair fall out than simply keeping the hair you already had, let alone "regrowth"?? I can't understand why Merck doesn't even acknowledge this shedding thing??

Based on forum, it seems that more people experience shedding than those who don't, and those who do shed, most do not grow it back. Propecia almost seems like a practical joke: A pill for hair loss that accelerates hair loss. ??

Relax you are taking this poll way too seriously. Shedding is rare and may just be a sign that finasteride doesn't work for these people. Many people voting here are the ones that come to this forum to complain.

Do not let this unsicentific, heavily biased poll sway your decision on treatments in any way.

I sometimes feel that those defending Propecia are merely hoping.

I think you're always negative about Propecia. Come on, man. Do you think the FDA-conducted clinical studies lie?

No, Propecia works. We don't need your negativity.

andy, you always seem to defend propecia but didn't you stop using it cause it wasn't working for you? i'm not trying to be a dick, i was just wondering.

IMO, i believe people give propecia a lot more credit than it deserves. i know it does work well for some people, but for the most part i think it is not worth the toll it takes on your body.

poll is flawed.

Dinzy --you're right i never thought of that. most of the posters in these shedding topics are likely the exception. so poll will naturally be largely inaccurate.
Sum1 know where the original propecia studies (from early 90's i assume), and also any INDEPENDENT studies anywhere???

I hope to God this poll is inaccurate....

Why even bother taking this drug if the chances are you won't get full regrowth after a shed?

It's important to remember that those who have had success with propecia or any other hairloss treatment will more than likely never read this topic or this forum again .... that is until their treatment stops working. This poll to me makes perfect sense since it backs my theory which is those who have tried propecia but have not had success will of course stick around this forum since they have to look for other alternatives.

I've just started propecia (2 months) and minoxidil (1 month) and I'm shedding like sh*t but I don't let this get to me. I'm in this for a year, even though this blows chunks and I'm hoping I'm one of the choosen one who see's results a lot sooner than a freaking year.

Well said John,

I am in the same boat as you, coming up on the end of month #2 - & shedding. Diffuse thinner.

Some say this is typical but I am part skeptical. I'd rather be optimistic but shedding can knock you down even of the best of days.

Time will tell...

I'm seriously just thinking about jacking it in with Propecia...

It's ravaged my hairline in 2 months and has thinned out the whole of my crown. I now have a bald spot at the front of my hair whereas 2 months ago I actually had a f*****g hairline.

I started shedding 2 months after starting finasteride and it lasted for 1-2 weeks but now the shedding has stopped and I am seeing some regrowth :D

Same exact story here. Gotta stick with it, I do have some trust in the FDA and its so true, the people with success do not hang around hair loss forums.
