5 year update on page 3. Basically the side effects like itchy scalp and gyno took a while to take effect so I stopped treatment. I think I still look the same though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nov 25 update- New pictures. I will present them under the april 25 set. oh yeah, in case anybody is wondering about side effects from propecia, i haven't had any. no gyno, no limpness, none of that stuff. my girl hasn't noticed anything different when we have sex. so don't get scared of side effects, not everybody gets them.

well folks, a couple of months ago my girlfriend asked me if i was going bald when playing with my hair. i immediately said that i didnt think so. at the time i didnt really notice. however, i recently cut my hair very short and now i really have started to notice it. actually, even my friends have started to notice. now i am hearing stuff like "damn bro, wtf are you balding? youre looking really thin up there." its pretty upsetting, especially considering that i just barely turned 22 last week. now that i am noticing, i am looking back at various pictures that i have taken with my girlfriend over the last couple of years. slowly but surely my hairline has been receding and my hair has been thinning.

well... pictures speak louder than words so i now present them to you.

April 25 2004 set...

luckily i havent started losing hair from the back of my head yet.

Get on topical DHT inhib today - or better yet, yesterday.
Buy nizoral 2% shampoo.
Buy minoxidil 2%.

make an appointement to see a dr about your situation, he´ll check you out and ask about stuff like male pattern baldness, prostate cancer and how it runs in the family.

You are now subject to the big three or the big 2½ (2% minoxidil instead of the 5%).

Man you are young and this should seriously slow down your hairloss and you could even regrow some - there have been amazing results.

Good luck bro!

thanks for the reply!

just out of curiosity, why 2% instead of 5%? i thought hair in the front did not respond well to 2%? do you think using tgel would be a good substitute for nizoral? i dont have very deep pockets. the doctor i would make an appointment with would be a dermatologist rite? can dermatologist prescribe proscar? i doubt it, but just wondering how you guys got your prescriptions. like i said, my pockets are not very deep and it would be great costwise with proscar instead of propecia.

btw, my father started losing his hair in his early 20's, and had the "horseshoe" hairstyle by the time he was 30. i would like to prevent that for as long as possible.

Hey welcome to the site, ssjrexboi.

First off, I'm just wondering how you just noticed your hairloss now? I'm not trying to judge you but i'm just curious how so many people can be so oblivious to their impending hairloss. Maybe, i'm just very conscientous of my appearence, but I pretty well know the exact day I began balding.

Now to your questions. Judging from the vast array of your pictures your not in too bad of shape yet. You've already done the best thing you can possibly do for yourself which is finding a site like this to help you out. I agree with Nesta's advice except I would go straight to minoxidil 5%. It's clearly a better product and there is almost no reason to use 2%. If you see a dermatologist you can get a perscription for proscar which should last you quite a while. It's a very cheap substitute to propecia and equally effective. If you want to win your battle with hairloss it's neccessary to get a DHT inhibitor which is what proscar does. I would recommend also using nizoral either 1 or 2% at least twice a week. It's an anti-inflammatory that's also been shown to have postive affects on the growth of hair. The Big 3 is essential to maintaing or growing hair. If you get on a regimen, stay dedicated and patient then you should be fine. Best of Luck man.

No real reason. 2% works for me and I figure I can always upgrade in the future.

just started propecia today. the dermitologist wouldnt write me a prescription for proscar, but wrote me one for propecia. its cool though... he gave me a months worth of free samples :D . as stated earlier, i will update with new photos if there is any noticeable loss/gain in my hair, or six months- whichever comes first.

well, at first i kind of laughed when you guys are always going on about "OMFG, IM SHEDDING!" i thought shedding was what animals do, but OMFG, IM SHEDDING!, lol. it seems like when shampooing my hair, that if i look at my hands, i can see alot of hair that has fallen out. i hope that this is a good sign that i will be growing thicker hair soon. only time will tell i guess.

LOL, give it time, bro. BTW, your hair looks good. You should make a full recovery, imo.

I started with finasteride just 2 days before you so I know first hand how frustrating it is waiting for results. Most accounts I've read suggest that results start to be seen in the next 3 months. Let's see which one of us cracks first!

update - i have noticed that my hairline has receded a bit more, but not enough for you guys to notice in pictures. however, my hair in general is not noticably any thicker/thinner than when i started treatment. if it gets alot worse or a little better i will take pictures again. right now my hair is pretty much the same. i have been shaving my head with a clipper set to zero(no clip) because this thin hair sh*t is pissing me off. it kinda sucks. if i grow my hair out people think i am about 30 years old. however, if i shave it, i look my age of 22 but i look like a damn cholo(mexican gangster). since i live on the west coast, my friends joke with me and say sh*t like "vatos locos forever homes". i guess you just cant win...

one thing i will say though as far as having a shaved head, having a tan and being muscular really does help alot. my girl actually thinks i am sexier than ever with a bald head, and that it makes me look more muscular/tougher than i really am. however, if i could be fat without any hairloss i would choose that anyday  .

I don't have much faith in minoxidil alone. Add finasteride or dutasteride to your regimen at once!
