hey camobear,

so it's been almost a week since stopping treatment. i think you're right it will take a while for this stuff to get out of our systems. i have been using a shampoo that my derm prescribed for irritation and my scalp is feeling much better. my acne has gotten better, a friend commented today that my skin looked really good. my mood and libido are both still low, but im hoping over the next few weeks that they will get better.

how are things going for you??

Hey Kosmo, Great to heir that things are getting better. I am getting better slowly. My puffiness in my chest is starting to decrease significantly. Libido is coming back and mood is much better. Also my acne is going away but had a slight spike after I stopped last week. Yeah it is going to take some time to get this stuff out of our systems. I was on for 15 months. I am doing much better over all and glad things are better for you as well.

Hey Kosmo, Things are getting much better bro. Likewise my acne is clearing up mood is better and big difference is libido over all. Chest swelling has gone down day by day and feeling much better. Glad that things are working out better for you. My hair loss has been the same but I only have been off for two weeks. Has your hair loss increased?

Just quit two days ago. Couldn't take it anymore. ED still there, but my testicles seem to have filled in a bit. Not back to where they were before but much better. They were kinda soft/spongey and small on finasteride.

Another thing: I feel like I'm going through withdrawal. Did you guys experience this? Around noon today I started to feel very lethargic, light headed, floaty, and just all around strange. Nerve endings very sesitive. Also, food tasted and felt strange. Got chills and shivers too. If so, how long did this last for you? Was it about the same duration for your sexual sides to disappear?

camobear, good to hear things are getting better for you too. my hairloss is about the same as it was before i quit. im hoping that since i didnt really get any results that i wont have a shed after quitting (knock on wood!).

rkim, sorry to hear you have quit too. were you seeing any results before you stopped? i didnt really notice any withdrawl when i quit, i think my body was happy that i was giving it a break. i wouldn't think that it would last very long for you, your body is probably just trying to adjust back to normal. everyday i seem to feel better and better so i would expect within a week or so you should start to feel normal. keep us posted. good luck!

Hey Kosmo, Great to heir things are going good for you bud.

rkim, when I stopped I felt a bit out of it for a few days. Mind was foggy a bit and felt light headed at times but all went away after three days of stopping. Hang in there bud things will get better. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the words of encouragement Kosmo.
As for results, I think I did start to see some, especially in the crown. That has since started to fall out. The hairline and temples are worse than when I started from the shed. SUCKS! I'll give an update on whether or not it comes back in.

I'm just feel so relieved at the prospect of getting my hormones back on track. Still not there yet but actually feeling a little better today.

Tomorrow it'll be a week since stopping and my sides are worse. WTF???!! They always fluctuate and it seems to be on the rise in the past few days. Nipple pinching, pinching/strange sensation in my penis, ED, etc. This seems to have been the case every time I decreased as well. It would get worse directly after. Shouldn't it get gradually better?

As an alternative have a look at this:

http://www.freewebs.com/immortalhair/

interesting:

"A diet higher in Protein and Omega-3 fatty acids, very low in starches or sugars will help lower DHT levels and improve blood sugar metabolism.

Improving glucose metabolism is essential success in controlling hair loss. Avoidance in sugars and starches is critical to that end."

your body got used to functioning in a certain way while being on propecia. then when you stopped, there was a drop in you hormones. as a result, your body will try to compensate which is why your side effects seemed to come back. your body will eventually level out and return back to normal, just give it time.

Thanks for the input Kosmo.
Update: it's now over a week and no change. Nipple pain is a bit better but the ED is actually even worse. Less than 50%. It just seems like there should be some kind of progress by now. And it's Friday damn-it!!!!
I'll be sure to update with something positive when (or if) I get back to normal.

Update, been off of Propecia for more than one month. Things are getting a lot better and side effects are all gone. It seems very odd since I stopped Propecia and all treatments my hair loss has not increased at all. I think this may be that I am in a growing phase now as I had a large shed last December. I was told my results that I have gained will be gone in 12 months.

Kosmo, how's it goin bud? Have you lost more? how are the sides doing?
Cheers

This stuff does crazy things to your body. I've been off 10 or 11 days. My sides went away in about 3 days, but now I've broken out in these little red bumps all over the place. I look like I have a skin disease. :-x

sandshark, hang in there bud. I broke out real bad when I stopped and after a month things are getting much better each day. It will take a couple of weeks for things to improve.

Cheers

Just thought I'd give an update. It's been three and a half weeks since quitting and the sides have gotten much better, however I'm not 100%. No break out. Hair has gone back to falling out worse than before finasteride. The drug was definitely working. Wish I could've stayed on.

Thought I'd update this thread if anyone is interested.
It's about 9 weeks since quitting and while my sides got better after the third week, they've since returned (ED, loss of libido). They had always fluctuated, but this time I really thought I was in the clear. Even a little nipple pain, though not as bad as before. Has anyone else taken this long to recover?

Just a quick word of advice for people stopping propecia -being a med student, i know that when doctors prescribe meds that affect hormone levels eg corticosteroids etc, and these medications have to be stopped, they DO NOT STOP THEM IMMEDIATELY - they 'wean' you off them, i.e half the dosage for a while, then quarter the dosage, then stop it altogether over a period of weeks. They don't just take you from all to nothing overnight or else your body can react strangely to the sudden change.

I am assuming this would be similar for propecia, so when you come round to getting off propecia , i would suggest cutting your dosage for a bit first, before eventually stopping altogether

Oh.My.God!!

This finally explains something that had me puzzled for many weeks a few months ago. I went on the Atkins diet (incredible diet by the way, low carbs, lots ofprotein, lost just about 80 pounds and keeping it off). After about a month, my nipples were very sensitive, and I experienced some testicular discomfort on a regular basis. All of this went away after about 3 weeks. I ALSO NOTICED A DEFINITE IMPROVEMENT IN MY HAIR LOSS!!

I assumed all of this had to do with the the massive changes my body was going through at the time, and since it wasn't unbearable, and the reduced hairloss was a nice bonus, I just ignored the nipple sensitivity and slight testicular discomfort.

Should also add that - at the time - I simply assumed that the improvement in my hair loss situation was because my body was getting healthier thanks to the fact that I lost so much weight. I'm sure that overall improvement in health had something to do with it, but I suspect that the lower DHT levels is really what did it.
