Was at the gym last night and noticed I shed a lot of hair after my workout... Would taking finasteride an hour before a gym workout help in anyway?! or will it make no difference at all?
None at all. I think most sheds are caused by estrogen fluctuations. These happen over weeks or so. The time of day won't matter. DHT levels are kept pretty constant even though finasteride is gone in hours.
finasteride or dutasteride will not solve it. you need a topical anti androgen that blocks testosterone from binding directly to the AR.
i had the same shedding issue as you after heavy weighlifting at the gym. And i was on oral dutasteride every day. did not help.
I solved it by applying an anti-androgen about one hour before hitting the gym, since we know that the testosterone spike will dissapear about 20 minutes after the end of exercise.
Currently "available" topical anti-androgen list:
Flutamide
spironolactone
Fluridil
And add Lavender oil to the list of androgen receptor blockers. I don't know if it is the essential oil or the plain oil. I'll have to look it up again. Only problem is it might go systemic. But I use it a lot with no side effects. It also inhibits 5 alpha reductase type 1, and is a growth stimulant. Very cheap. No huge human studies. Just small animal studies and a few famous posters on here who tested it on their body hair and other areas.

Flutamide is gonna be the most effective, but beware of sides. I never read anyone having note-worthy success with spironolactone. Fluridil is expensive and less effective but chance of sides are greatly less than the flutamide.
fluridil is very good at stopping shedding and without any side effects. i tested 4 times the recommended amount of one 2ml ampule a day and had no issues, this test lasted about 2 months. i now use 2 ampules a day because i have long hair.
cost of fluridil is about $2 per day. (1 ampule per day)
flutamide can be extremely cheap if you make you own 1 or 2% topical from crushed generic pills, and is very effective a stopping shedding & also increasing thickness. more effective than fluridil. but has strong androgenic side effects after a while, and in some case can have fatal liver issues. not good for the liver long term. not really a safe long-term hairloss drug to apply on the whole scalp in large amounts.
Never used spironolactone myself so i won't comment.
