There are actually some decent tracks on it.
It does sound way too over-produced though and some of the crappy electronica effects used make an otherwise decent song, cringe-worthy. How much better would 'There was a Time' and 'If the World' sound if they were just raw guitar songs, rather than a complete mess of over-dubbed sound effects?

Sure I can be empathetic with that point of view, but the logial argument there is that it would sound to much like the old stuff. Bands that didn't evolve over time eventualy got repetetive and bland..kinda like Bon Jovi. The release like a record every two years that all sound the exact same and it's to the point now where nobody gives a hoot about what they're doing.

Axl said himself that it wouldn't sound like GN'R and that he was trying something different.

AFD and UYI's are very different records, but they both sound like GNR. A band can evolve in it's own style frame, no need to go over the top.

its on the gnr myspace page as you probably all know.

i really wanted to like it but...no good riffs, the singings really harsh and abrasive, theres hardly any good melodies and its very self indulgent. you can tell about 50 different producers have worked on it for 15 years - really blows that monkey/typewriter theory out of the window. the first minute or so of the first song is really good though (before he starts singing)

shame isnt it,axl does still sound like axl though

nice avatar by the way sean, even saw noel cracking a joke with beckham.

f*****g hell, I went to the market today for grocery shopping and there it was, the real deal. I wanted so much to buy it but darn, I have to wait to get it from England since I pre-ordered it from there (play.com). Well, I saved 7 euros :jackit: .

Should have done it man! I think i'll end up with two copies of the CD and one on vinyl. I bought the regular CD allready, and once they get it to my small town I'll get the fan pack and the vinyl

I canceled the order and will go and buy it from the market today. Gladly it's only like 300 meters away from where I live, it's been pouring snow for the past few days here.

No seriously, I have listened to a few of their albums but not many. I do love their version of heaven’s door.

GNR hasn't released that many proper albums... this was only the 4th LP that mostly contains original material. Then there's the "GNR Lies" EP and "The Spaghetti Incident?" cover album.

Is that counting UYI 1 and 2 as one LP or two?

The UYI's were 2 albums 'cause they were sold separately. Furthermore, both of the UYI albums tick way over 70 minutes so I guess it's reasonable to count them as 2 albums.

Yeah, only 4 proper ones, there was Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide, EP aka Live from the Jungle which a few of the tracks were recorded live at the Marquee Club in 87' but those were just ep's then there's the Live era which is utter crap and has Axl redubbing a few of the vocals and some instrument redub's as well and greatest hits which was crap as well.

It was a joke to call live era a live album..It wasn't just a few songs with re-recorded vocals, but the vast majority of them. People argue whether the intruments were redone..I'm almost sure they werent re-recorded but had a LOAD of studio enhancing and reworking of them. A few songs such as jungle and patience are actually three or more live shows mashed into one with reworked vocals.

mmm Yea.

I'm pretty unimpressed with the whole thing. The AXL solo project had some moments.. But for the most part it's just way too " plasticky " There's no grit , or any rhythm due to the fact that there have been enough musicians on this album to start like 3-5 other bands. I mean like 15 years spent on this?

I did like some of the buckethead stuff though.. Although I would've preferred it if he had of went really crazy.. alas.

To each their own.

Knockin on Heavens door from the freddie mercury tribute concert was trashed in the live era, instrumental's were reworked and parts of the song even had Axl's vocals taken out but the worst ones for me were the songs that had the original recording from the concert then right at the end they would redubb it...stupid.
