Sup fellas, need some info here. I used to use Rogaine 5% which worked pretty good for me, but would have me flaking like crazy and irritated my scalp. I've heard some positive things about Xandrox 12.5 and 15 and was wondering if i would have the same flaking and irritation problem as i did with Rogaine? would it be better to use the 12.5 lotion as opposed to the 15% solution? I greatly appreciate any help. thanks,

Bryan

I have never tried the 12.5 %, but I use the Xandrox 5% and the Xandrox 15%. I have never experienced any irritation or flaking from it. I do like the xandrox better than rogaine..........rogain tends to be greasy. I will say that the xandrox 15% is kinda sticky, but the xandrox 5% isn't. The 5% dries very well. I really like it. :)

is the 5% as effective as the 15%? looking for something to help retain my hairline. i use propecia, nizoral 2% twice a week and 1% the rest of the time. 1000mcg biotin, 1 procerin a night before bed and drink lots of green and white tea to supplement my coffee intake. thanks for the help buddy

Well, you could use the 5% xandrox during the day and the xandrox 15% at night. I wouldn't use the 15% more than once a day. I believe the 15% is more potent than the 5%. It's given me results that the 5% failed to do. Besides I believe minoxidil is "dose dependant" drug, meaning the higher the concentration, the more effective.........but that may also include higher chance for sides as well. I haven't experienced any sides.
You use nizoral 2% twice a week and nizoral 1% the rest? I would just use the 2% 3 times a week if I were you. You could use it Mon,Wed,Fri........then take the weekend off. If you want to use something in between, use Head n' Shoulders that contains the 1% pyrothine(sp?) zinc. Use it the same way you would use the nizoral, ya know, let it stand on scalp for 5 minutes then wash out.
Also, I would add an anti androgen......like spironolactone. Since the hairline is very hard to treat......you really need to attack that area from all angles. Actually all areas of the scalp including the hairline should be attacked from all angles, but the hairline especially.
Hairloss is actually interesting. All sorts of stuff to learn about it. Right when you thought you understood what causes it and how to treat it............................damn.........thats about as bad as a woman. LOL!! :)

I tried the 15% solution for a good 3 months. While it didn't do anything spectacular for me (If you saw my regimen and followed my posts, you'd be astonished at the money I've spent on treatments only to have NOTHING work), it's acclaimed to work quite well as a night time treatment. Feels really good on the scalp too. I didn't get the tingling that PPG infused Rogaine seemed to give me.

If you don't see any mentionable results with 5% minoxidil, jump on the 15% bandwagon. The 12.5% lotion is good, just lotions are a pain in the *** to apply, and look even worse (cough spironolactone).

Ive tried the 12.5% xanadrox lotion... I like the fact that it is a lotion, which makes it easier to apply beyond the hairline (if you're trying to push it out a little). Solutions tend to drip off. It is a little irritating (i think the azelaic acid causes temporary warmth and flushing, at least for me) but tollerable. I just use it at the temples and frontal hairline once a day at bedtime (so appearance doesn't matter much). I think that the choice of the 15% solution would be best if you are trying to get it in among and under existing hairs, as a lotion would be a pain there.

No its not the azelaic acid that causes the warmth and flushing, it is Benzyl nicotinate, It is chemically related to niacin and can cause a temporary ‘flushing’ of the scalp where it is applied. It is found in the 12.5% lotion. The 15% xandrox will be fine in the hairline area. The 12.5% lotion would probably do good too. I have never personally tried it though. :)

Makes sense... All I know is that SOMETHING burned me badly when I started the 12.5% solution along with retin-a solution... I've gotten used to the effect and havent had a problem recently. Good to know, thought, in case it comes back... I'll just switch to the 15% in that case.

WHOA!!! You are using the Retin-A?? Dr. Lee doesn't even suggest using it. Even though he does sell it. He sells it cause people want to buy it. He has warned them though. That would intensify the burning. Might want to email him if I were you and tell him what you are doing. See what he says to ya. I would. :)

I know what he says... He certainly cant confirm a need for mixing retin-a and anything over 2% minoxidil, as he believes that higher doses of minoxidil make retin-a's increased minoxidil absorption irrelavent. I use retin-a because there are a few limited studies that raise the possibility that retin-a may have hair growth properties on it's own. Not big or reliable studies, but studies. Anyway, it's a chance, but something Im doing is working and my scalp feels fine. Dr Lee sells a retin-a/5%minoxidil spray that I use a few times a week without problem. If he felt strongly about it im sure he would just refuse my money and not send me the product : )

Anyway, dr. Lee couldn't recommend the dutasteride that I'm taking either.

The fact is that combination treatments arent studied, and there are no studies proving superiority of minoxidil 15% over 5% (its just not studied). After you get past finasteride and minoxidil 5% you are kind of on your own... I accept that, but in my quest for Don King hair I am willing to push the limits. :eek:nfire:

Well, okay then. I see you already know the risks with the retin A, but as long as your regimen is working then that is the most important thing. Just thought I'd warn ya, incase you just didn't know. :)

ok, great info guys. i really appreciate it. bottomline, i have sensitive skin so which xandrox between the 12.5 or 15 would work best for me w/o the possibility of irritation? looking to order and give one of them a try asap. i will only be applying it once a day at night. rogaine 5% in conjunction with propecia worked great for me, but the dry scalp and dandruff from rogaine forced me the stop. as for procerin, i found that i was growing alot of thin, tiny, blond hairs. when i stopped and replaced it with propecia, the thin hairs stopped emerging and some disappeared, but the propecia has helped lower the amounts of lost hair i find on my hands when i gel and brush my hair. the only reason i started taking one a day before bed, was b/c i had a bottle left over from my last order and figured i'd do the one a day until it was gone and see if would have any effect. thanks again fellas

I would go with the 15% Xandrox. I haven't really heard of many that have had irritation from it. What is your regimen anyways? Just curious. :)

good links kalika, thanks for the info. typically i drink white tea. i actually heard it's a stronger antioxidant than green tea and personally i like the stronger taste it has. but i do still drink green tea as well. i like it b/c it's not only good for the hair, but for the body and your health overall. hope we can all find a regime that works for us. good luck fellas!

nasdak, unless you have poor results with 5% don't go for xandrox 15.
first try his regular xandrox 5 or minoxidil 5. It has less ppg (30%) as opposed to regular rogaine and is fast drying and less greasy.
if you try ppg free minoxidil, xandrox or xandrox 15, they are more greasy.

i had great results with the 5% rogaine, but hated the flakes. i had to discontinue using it. i was really looking into the 12.5% lotion. for some reason, i had this thought that b/c it was a lotion, it wouldn't dry out my scalp and cause flaking. what makes xandrox 5% better than rogaine's and why would it not cause flaking for me the same way? sorry for all the questions guys, i just don't want to waste my money on a product that has the same consequences for me. i still have aliitle less than a full bottle of 5% rogaine sitting in my bathroom draw that i haven't touched in about a year.

kalika, sorry i missed your post and never replied. my regimen is the following:

1mg propecia
1000 mcg biotin
green and white tea (usually about 3 cups a day)
nizoral 2% twice a week
nizoral 1% rest of the time
1 procerin each night before bed

here's what i've noticed since adding the biotin and 1 procerin roughly 2 weeks ago. while i was on full procerin w/ no propecia, i still had some hairloss, but noticed alot of thin blonde hairs growing in. stopped the procerin about 8 months ago and started propecia about 6 months ago. lost the thin blonde hairs in my temples, yet began maintaining existing hair better. since adding biotin and procerin again, i'm starting to see alot of the thin blonde hairs growing back. perhaps now in conjunction with the propecia, i will have some sort of regrowth as well. we'll see, i'll keep the forum posted. i think i'm gonna go with the xandrox 12.5%. hopefully it doesn't dry out my scalp and be a waste of money.
