I'm only on finasteride. You are using minoxidil as well? And how long have you been using it? Thanks, also do you think it’s true that minoxidil makes your face age more aggressively as well?

I don't see thinning, only temple recession. You should stay on finasteride for the long term.
Such hairs are all but impossible to evaluate outside of your treatment protocol. I could never tell if they were coming or going but here's a hint since I now have visible new hair coming in all over the hair line. They should be whitish mixed with a few dark ones that may look like vellus hair at first. So anything over say a centimeter is unlikely to be new growth plus nobody grows hair really at the temples or the hair line without extreme measures like microneedling, oral min or estrogen.@JaneyElizabeth @jazz1 @Jpw1999 @Adam124
See now after a month on that topical min and finasteride combo… I have all these wispy hairs around my hairline and feel like i am shedding more, could me me just tripping out but idk… I’ve never used minoxidil..
I am lousy at looking for small hairs coming in but I have looked again at your hair particularly from the side and yep, that's hair loss. Look at the area in front of the ears to the sideburns. That is an unusual pattern. Normally juveniles and females among whites have oval shaped hairlines down to the ears. You appear to have sideburns that jut way out at one point and many men have this pattern like Christian Slater or Jack Nicholson or Al Pacino and this has always puzzled me. I have noted that most of my regrowth is in front of the ears and the linking up to a canopy over the hair line. I was barely aware that that hair was gone but I will have to look for some pics of my own. If you have juvenile pics, let us take a look at those since you probably didn't have sideburns until beard growth started substantially. I am really interested in this which shows how wack I am or how dedicated I am but I predict that you will not thin in the crown or the fringe, at least until say male menopause age which is when finasteride/duta started failing me. You will probably recess a bit more in the temples but this is not so bad because you could get a transplant easily with such small surface area plus the rest of your hair seems unaffected in terms of texture. People confuse what seems to be increased wave or curl as they mature for hair actually thickening or I did anyway but it's actually frizz that is making the hair not lie as uniformly flat plus the texture is off. I need to post some before pics of this phenomenon and I have one from senior year in college that is quite illustrative of this.I appreciate all your feedback and am stoked you are finally growing back some strong vellus hairs! I am definitely noticing shedding as I am hitting my first moth of treatment. I’m on essegen-6 plus but I do see some wispy and a few small baby hairs. Not sure if you can see them? They may be miniaturizing or new? I used sole topical finasteride for 4 months prior but ditched it for the combo of topical finasteride + min.
what are your thoughts?
No you are a legend Janey. I really appreciate all the feedback you are giving me. Trying to understand what I can do, worst case I want to get like a 1000-1500 graft hair transplant. these are all photos from around 10-11 years ago when I was 15 or 16yrs old and I am almost 27yrs old coming up. The earlier photos are of todayLet me know what you think, I am hoping this topical combo can help rethicken what I have.I am lousy at looking for small hairs coming in but I have looked again at your hair particularly from the side and yep, that's hair loss. Let me say this. Any and all texture changes after puberty may be highly problematic as is the phenomenon for anyone who has had long hair that even if it still grows long, it suddenly no longer looks nice or well-kempt. That's the sign of the reaper as some of the guys term it. I remember seeing a surfer movie when I was 18 so I decided to wear it long and it didn't look right so I had to cut it at least to the bottom of the ears. I also recall seeing Jeff Bridges in Against All Odds and he had amazing hair. I was only 19 but I knew already that Bridges had better hair than I did then and then about a month later, the bomb dropped and there was an incipient bald spot with essentially no frontal loss yet. It was so high on the crown as to be invisible from the front. Since then I never let anyone approach me from behind and I have cut my own hair for 36 years because I am not comfortable having a barber go through my hair. This is how damaging hair loss can be.
Best,
Janey
Your hair hasn't changed much at all. Do you really want to spend all that money on a hair transplant just to go from nw2 to nw1?No you are a legend Janey. Add ketaconazole shampoo as well and see how you guy on this regime, to counter side effects try horny goat weed and zinc.thanks dude but I’m definitely noticing thinning just the way my hair lays now or when my hair is damp… I just really want to rethicken my hairline if possible so anything helps. I’m using that Essegen-6 Plus which has .05 topical finasteride and 6% minoxidil so I’m praying this stuff works. Been applying every night for almost 3 weeks and think I’m shedding a bit. I see a few little hairs but don’t know if it’s miniaturization or regrowth. Feel like it’s miniaturization
I am gonna keep using along the hairline for like 3 months. Any other ideas that might work? Oral finasteride gives me sides as well I’ve tried twice, thanks.
I just have a big forehead so if you actually think I’m a NW2 it just looks worse imo, and I’m definitely slowly thinning around the hairline. I can see more scalp than I used too. I’m just trying to figure out how to thicken and or regrow a little back before it keeps receding. So if nothing works and I keep slowly receding, I may consider a hair transplant to bring it up and thicken it up a little bit more.Your hair hasn't changed much at all. Dang okay so maybe give it until 3 months and cross my fingers. I appreciate itThat's a difficult thing to decide. Why not read this and ask again after you say what you think is right for you:
Understanding Shedding and Hair Loss Treatment
If they are new, they should look like razor stubble but smaller and whiter with a few darker ones mixing in. If they are whitish and more than a mm or two long, in my experience it's hair with low anagen sort of hanging on and I used to refuse to really ask this myself because it is so rare looking to me. Since we never or almost never see actual regrowth with pictures, seldom are these hairs worth noticing except keep treating the area but it's doubtful to be hair regrowth unless like Janey you can clearly tell your hair is growing back. This seems provocative but until a couple of months ago, I still though that I might be imputing thickening vel non with actual new hair counts. They are related but separate and caused by anagen.Still shedding a bit see some peach fuzz in certain lighting, hitting rn about 1.5 months on. Do these little hairs look like potential new hair or dying?? Thank you
