No more "scalp scrubbing!"

No more "hair putty!"

Go easy on the minoxidil applications. Don't cause scabbing.

Don't fight it so hard, you just gotta let the stuff do it's job.

You've only been on Propecia a month longer than me. I don't really notice any regrowth either, though I bet it's there. Some anyway. WAY too early to know what the end results will be though at this point.

I forget: have you seen a dermatologist? If you are literally shedding good hairs, you really should see one. Let him rule out possibilities which might be making things worse.

I see you're on xanax... don't anti-depressants cause hair loss?

And then there's the obvious desperation and stress. I know it's a bit of a catch-22, where losing hair causes stress - which may cause hair loss, but... ya gotta find some emotional balance here too. Between the xanax and desperation, your blood chemistry might not be the best.

I just do NOT believe that Propecia *causes* hair loss. Ever. It makes absolutely zero sense, unless the pet theory of "shocking hair into a growth cycle" is true, in which case it WILL come back. Forget what the polls say, dang it! Rely on clinical evidence, proven science, and common sense - not paranoid fear and desperation.

If you're taking Propecia and your hair is falling out it clumps, then SOMETHING ELSE is wrong, beyond the male pattern baldness. The GOOD news is that it's most likely reversible... you just gotta figure out what it is.

Get therapy to fix the underlying problems which xanax is just covering up. Drop any questionable treatments which might be causing more harm than good, and focus on Propecia, Minoxidil, and Nizoral. And see a dermatologist OR a normal Doctor and tell him about the sudden hair loss.

IMHO ;)

I dont take xanax on a regular basis.

I do take lexapro, but just started about 5 weeks ago. so that wouldht have an aeffect on the hair cycle. even if it caused hair loss.

my hair isnt falling out in clumps really, it's diffuse thinning..

I've been to therapy and all he suggests is looking at positive things which is hard. he keeps trying to unfold things in my life that i'm upset about and he doenst htink it's my hair!!! it's my god damn hair!!!!! iwas fine when i had a ton.. now I dont and i'm upset, how does that make sense??????????

I'm thinking of a hair transplant but my hair falls so fast i may not be a good idea.

my head is big, my skin is oily.. i'll look stupid bald.

Yet you mention freaking when finding many hairs on the comb and whatnot? I'm balding too, but I hardly ever find a hair anywhere: not in the sink, not in the shower. So I'm just guessing that what you're describing is a more sudden loss caused by other factors, and not necessarily male pattern baldness by itself.

That's ashame, therapists shouldn't dismiss your concerns as being unimportant. It's great to remember to watch the sunsets, but I don't think it helps to ignore that sucky things do indeed truly suck.

But there are factors of perspective and responsibility to remind yourself of.

Balding sucks, I agree, but everyone has something they hate about themselves. It's funny, you can talk to the most perfect, beautiful person in the world... and you find out they're miserable because their nose is 1mm to big in their eyes. Hell, I just spent $3,000 to close a tiny gap between my front teeth that everyone swears they never noticed anyway. (sidenote warning: getting prepped for veneers is WORSE than root canal).

Responsibility, to me, means you're doing what you can to keep your hair - and not doing desperate things which harm it. And if it STILL falls out, well, what more can you do? You do what you can, adapt as best as possible to the results, and move on. It's all you CAN do.

Oh come on, I know tons of "hair people" that look stupid regardless. Stupid is as stupid does, it doesn't depend on hair, lol, believe me.

It's odd, we recently hired a guy here at work. He had a full head of hair. Then he was diagnosed with cancer, and the chemo nuked it all. He's totally slick right now. And I'll admit, he looked damn weird for the first few days. But now I'm used to it, I don't give it a second thought. It's just his normal look now. It's not stupid. It's not anything, really. It's just him.

He's just seeing the hairs that come out when he shampoos. If they didn't come out on his hand then they'd fall out in the wind or whatever else. These are destined to fall out anyway. The good news is that these are falling out now due to his treatment, only to grow back with more vigor.

Jeff man, give yourself a break. You are way too hard on yourself. It's a shame you can't realize that what you're going through is part and parcel of the treatment process...to the T. It's just as sure as taxes for some people. Does the Kool Aid pitcher man have to crash through your wall and blurt it out? "Oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Shedding is normal! You're doing fine!" Doesn't matter that you've been on 5 or 6 months. Everyone's hair is on its own unique cycle.

Went to a wedding yesterday (2.4.06)
and of the many many people that were there that were all my age, there was only one guy who had hair loss worse than mine.

I should be shot for checking out peoples hairlines at a place wehre everyone should be happy and celebrating.

Jeff,

I'm still thinning, too. During my shower yesterday, and I had much more hair come out. It never stops. I am almost afraid to take a shower today.

Sorry that wasn't that supportive. I'm feeling pretty depressed myself. But hang in there.

bwhahahaha...

showers are the worst part of all our days..

I've decided not to upset anyone by starting a new thread... this is just great though...

I shower and dont look at my hands... just do my daily routine like i wasnt losing hair..

I get out.. dab my head all over with a towel..

now i'm sitting here.. and my hair is kinda stuck to my head from being wet.. know what i mean??

so i use my fingers to break it up a little and try to fluff it to dry it out..

so THEN i look at my hands and there were 13 hairs stuck to it.. and i just laughed.. no losing hair isnt funny, but mother of god this sh*t is horrible.

now i'm scared to even comb it. I'm begining to look like a freak..

uuuuggggggggggggggggggg.

Jeff,

You are not a freak. You are going through some changes. The medication will work. I am in the same boat. Let's stay the course together.

Take care.

DO THIS!

Hi JEFFSSS !

I have the best remedy for you, and if you do it, you can get your old life back. Lose all those things you're taking, you don't need any one of them, you're healthy so keep it that way, without relying on anything.

SHAVE YOUR HEAD, be completely BALD and PROUD....show off to the world what a beautiful bald pate you have. Take control now, don't let your hair control you.

last piece of advice, put those two bulbs you removed back on.

jeffsss, i see you definitely have a few avenues to try before resorting to shaving the head.

you should seriously give minoxidil a proper go. but it sounds like you need to get your scalp sorted first, if its painful. i agree with siberian, perhaps there are other factors why you hairs falls out in the manner it is and why your scalp is painful. See a dermatologist, get the scalp healthy again then get on Xandrox. i say go for Xandrox from Dr Lee, its not greasy like rogaine and you can start with the 5% solution and you 12.5% and 15% options to try down the line as required. Gives you a long term viable arsenal against hairloss.

I have dermatitus of the scalp, can get very itchy and painful, so i saw a dermatologist and it was the best thing i have done. some lotion cleared up the conidition, now it feels so healthy and im using xandrox and spironolactone without problem.

oh yes, and if you are doing xandorx, then you might as well add spironolactone. Its no extra inconvenience if you are already doing minoxidil, as you apply them together (well i wait 5 min between minoxidil and spironolactone).

sh*t, now im just crapping on. my point is i dont think you should give up yet. there are lots of options for you yet jeffsssss.
