oh thats right, forgot about that Irish division

Ah I thought you were informed and attempting a long winded discussion on the terminology of what is "Ireland" as an island.

But now I understand even less, you thought Northern Ireland, a much smaller part of the island, but a part of the UK, makes the entire island of "Ireland" commonly regarded as part of the UK? If you weren't aware of Irish division, and you thought of "Ireland" as being just "Northern Ireland", I mean this makes no sense.

Surely if someone wasn't aware of the Irish division they'd think Ireland was just one separate country, and were unaware of the sovereignty status of Northern Ireland?

Idris was by far the most convincing accent in the Wire. I clocked McNulty and Carcetti having dodgy accents during watching it but it wasn't until several years after watching I learned Stringer was English

I had no idea at the time, and on re-watching it I really looked out for blips but there was nothing.

I think having a deeper voice really counts for this, the accents are less decipherable. Johnny Depp for example has a deep voice and is praised as mastering different accents, and although he did, I think the deep voice makes a huge difference.

Carcetti and McNulty had higher voices, neither sounded particularly Irish or English, but sometimes gave off this wacky coo-coo mobster parody type accent because they had no dulcet tone to fall back on.

mcnulty's was fine imo, and his scene where he had to pretend to be English was really funny (Wire has some of the best comic relief) but c'mon, carcetti was pierce brosnan-tier tomfoolery

as for the above bit I guess some 'muricans think Ireland is UK

what part of Ireland are you from? i'm quarter irish i think (mum born in england but her parents + that whole side are both 100% Munster mandem, dad is 100% english)

We moved around a handful of times, I'm a child of the world. But about half my adolescent life near the border (Louth, South Armagh) and a chunk in Canada, smaller part in USA as a child.

If I had to choose I'd actually say McNulty was a little whackyer than Carcetti's, but I was planning on re-watching it again soon anyway so I'll see.

lol honestly watch it again man. i'm rewatching it now, currently on S4, only the second time since it came out, this gets better with the re-watch, no doubt the best TV show and arguably the best material ever made for a screen

in terms of intelligent TV, Sopranos is the only thing that comes close. for pure entertainment Game of Thrones breaks into my top3

I stopped watching GoT at the end of season 4, not that it was particularly bad season, just that I was getting sick of the merry-go-round of faux kill-drama that developed. There were sub-stories that I could connect with better than the main shocker that it would climax into.

It's not a bad show by any means, but a medieval Coronation Street. They attempted to put their stamp on segregating themselves from the "Good vs Evil" stamp associated with this genre, with Stark's conflicting morals and questionable past. In the end each episode did just become "baddies vs goodies" and who we're supposed to root for. And like any English soap, who you rooted for depended on whatever "twist" just happened.

Ireland is part of the UK no?
Only northern Ireland. The cross of St Patrick forms part of the Union Jack, representing the pro British countries in northern Ireland.

only pretty good? He is one of those rare types who will die with a flawless hairline IMO.

So I just learnt he is actually Irish, holy f*** he had be convinced he was American in The Wire. Dam.

Yeah, he's a f*****g full head. I don't think that's from a translplant, he had a lot of hair
all his life.
