Btw my friend says the Walloons actually had their own native language but because of the big southern influence french took over there. He also says dutch/flemish is much closer to the old franconian language than french.
And what do belgians say about reunification with the netherlands? Don't you share most history with them anyway?

By the way, Bruxelles was originally called "Broekzele" , which is Flemish, but like so many things in Belgium it has been Frenchified over the ages
