Dusty was the best british soul singer bar none. Absolutely incredibe, she was also greatly responsible for getting Motown as big as it was over here so in my view we also owe her a debt of gratitude for that as well.

Your quite eclectic arent you monty :punk:

Haha its good to be eclectic monty, and besides arent we all inherently useless?! Ive got a couple hear for you monty the first two are guys that Bob Dylan is known to have been in awe of.

I have a personal life mission to get as many people into this man as possible. Hes regarded as the white otis redding, and hes phenomenal, great voice, fantastic songwriter and a lost soul, when he sings about sleeping on a park bench he means it! He also wrote songs for percy sledge and Dusty.

This is a guy from texas called Townes van Zandt. This clip is from a dvd where they follow other country greats such as guy clarke and steve earle, but they all look up to Townes. That film is recommended to anyone into that stuff.

On a HairLossTalk.com related note, When I hear him on this song, I hear the spirit of seb in the air...(i mean that in an affectionate way btw!)

One more just to prove im not a miserable bastard, I dont see how anyone can listen to this and not get a daft smile on their faces!! You cant beat a bit of old school doo wop!

Thanks for taking an interest, as you can tell, he certainly played with some incredible artists, some of the biggest stars of the time.
Eddie hinton is a true legend. Jerry Wexler, one of the heads of Atlantic records (THE record company of the 50/60s/70's and therefore in my mind, the best) said his biggest regret in music was not making hinton a star, he said he could have done, but Eddie made him too much money by writing and playing for other people and he didnt have to pay him much in return, and thats why he wound up on a park bench instead of being one of the most famous men in the world.

Leonard Cohen i kind of get on with but i find him a bit pretentious (sacrilage i know), what I like about people like Townes is how unaffected he was, he was born into a wealthy diplomats (i think) family, but he couldnt relate to that world, so he turned his back on them and lived hand to mouth on the road playing songs which he did til he died, he lived the life. He always finds beauty in the bleak but he is hard to get into, it took me years before i proper 'got' him but when i did that was it.

And the chords yeah, I have a huge collection of doo-wop, there is something so joyful and innocent about it, i love songs like that. If I was on a desert island i would take this stuff, anything else is too depressing!

Pearl Jam...that takes me back to puberty!!

Nice one, there are all kinds of varients of doo wop, black, white, new york, detroit, 50s/60s/, swing, ragga, there is a whole world out there, but they are all basically just vocal groups, simple background and lots of harmonies.

Not for everyone but it's an incredible rush and a great way to vent anger/frustration.

If you are looking for Balkans/Gypsy type of song mixed with pop, IMO Disco Partizani is probably one of the best songs of it's kind. This song has been around for some time and it's been overplayed.

Similar bands, for Gypsy punk check out Gogol Bordello, they are a band I'd like to see live one day, but I don't like listening to them on my mp3 player. I also like Goran Bregovic' songs, which I prefer listening to on my mp3 player but I probably wouldn't pay to see.

I really can't get into new stuff. I generally like classic rock and classical music.....with some folk now and then.

My favourite band is Skunk Anansie. They're amazing live. I generally don't like hard rock music but they are the exception. I usually like "weird pop" and indie like Bjork, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sigur Rós, Bat For Lashes...

If I was a woman and black I'd model my style on the lead singer, Skin... easy way to hide my challenged follicles! :gay:

All great songs!

I'm off to see Skunk Anansie in London in December :punk: I've seen them twice already, and Skin solo twice as well.

Faithless are awesome, too. In fact, I do like alternative dance quite a bit.

I have always had a thing for Björk. People might think she's a crazy, weirdo who speaks like a pixie, but her music is pretty great... quite artistic, experimental but not in the way that makes it completely bizarre...

That video is very good as well.

Eyes tied tight forever
Mouth wired shut forever
Body parts dissever. You will see no more
Never....

Lowerd into the ground
You will never hear another sound
In your coffin you are bound. Underground
Forever

To the earth you're now enslaved, to the creatures long depraved
Flesh has now turned to grey, as the larve gnaw away
As you rott in your smallish tomb, insects care not how you met your doom
In your casket eternally lie. Many were pleased to see you die

Fester
In the
Crypt where
You lie

Victims
Pass by
They watched
You die

Flesh melts off your frame. Infamous was your name
Years passed since you moved on
Nothing left buy carrion

Festering in the crypt
