What Norwood Am I?

I was pretty much born a Norwood 1 and everything you see there has gone in the last 4 months.

That's what my hair normally looks like VS what my hairline actually is. Yes I'm 22 with a combover.

Is it time for me to get a shorter hair cut? What Norwood do you think I am? My head is tipped forward in the photo with my hair pulled back if that makes it look worse than it is?

I look good with long hair, it suits my face and olive skinned features well. Plus no one has actually noticed a difference in my hair. I'm starting to see gaps through my fringe to my forehead now though.

I got called egg head when I was a kid as my jaw is quite pointed and my head also pointed at the top and my head very narrow. Big hair seems to widen it all out nicely haha.

Together they form a very unattractive head shape. That's kind of why I started growing my hair longer as a teenager before realising it suits me way better anyway.

If/when I go bald I'm gunna have to say goodbye to my normally pretty damn good sex life.

Well first of all, your hair thickeness can easily conceal your hairloss which is a huge advantage for you. I have similar hair in the regard. I would say you're an extremely thick NW3. Treatments could do wonders for you

I'm trying micro-dosing finasteride at the moment but if it fails I'm kind of out of options until something better comes out.

I went from a Norwood 1 to a Norwood 3 in 3/4 months. That's still pretty depressing. Especially as I'm still diffuse thinning like a mother f****r.

Thank you for your kind words though. I'll be sad when my hair is gone.

Yeah I'm not kidding. Around April/March I thought my hairline might have been receding because someone made a comment.

I was terrified they were right and started obsessively checking. Then my temples just took flight faster than a jet fighter on amphetamines. Kind of stabilised a little now but the horseshoe in the middle is getting thinner in width still so I am going to have to get a shorter haircut soon.

One gust of wind and my cover is blown and now when I talk to people I look at their eyes and I'm sure they often flicker over to my fringe and the gap you can see from certain angles.

The paranoia is real and I'm sad about getting a short haircut.

I'm even sadder that I have receded what some men lose in 15 years in a few months.

Your hair my not leave if you take action now. I have been using 5% minoxidil, 2% keto and LLLT and over 9 months I have completely stopped my hair loss and regrown/thickened my hair. The game is not over for you at all. Take the necessary actions and you will maintain your hair; you also can hide your loss very well so don't be too upset about it

Everything you've written there suggests that it's probably a bad idea to get a really short haircut at the moment.
Firstly you've got thick enough hair to cover the receding temples and thinning areas. If you cut it short the bald areas will be there for the world to see and (take it from someone who's been there) you don't get a true reflection of how bald you actually are until you cut it really short. Just prepare yourself if you do cut it short, that's all I'm saying!
Secondly, cutting it short will also exaggerate your facial features so if you don't like your pointy head shape and jaw then cutting it short will probably only make your head and jaw look even more pointy.
You've also said you suit long hair so why change?

I was using 5% Minoxidil and I am using nizoral shampoo. However after a month of using minoxidil I started getting heart palpitations, dark circles under eyes and shortness of breath..

I'm just so depressed by this whole situation. I'm not even 23 yet and I can't use normal doses of finasteride (sides so I'm micro-dosing) and minoxidil because I also get sides.

What is LLLT?

That's what I'm scared off. Some people I know do know I'm receding but if I get a short haircut everyone will know and then if I grow it out they'll all know I'm trying to cover my bald spots.

My jaw is pointy but not in a bad way on it's own. It's only my tall, conical head that will make it look bad. Not to be arrogant but I'm not a bad looking lad. I used to do modelling. I have quite a nice face but my hair is really my defining feature.

I can cover my bald spots but I very often have to keep brushing my hair over to the side to cover the spot and at certain angles you can tell my temples are high.

None of my friends have this.. What is the odds of a 22 year old having recession this aggressive, especially as my Dad was a Norwood 0 until about 40/45.

Dude you remind me of me :)

I had the exact same hair until i was 17 / 18 then got a receeder by time i was 21 / 22 and had to start cutting my hair shorter due to wind etc.

It hasnt changed much since then, just gradually receeding more but not much. I can grow it longish before getting a cut and like you have thick hair which means you can style to one side and make it look good.

The key for me is getting shorter on sides and longer on top. Your hair is bushy at the sides which will make it look alot worse should you catch a gust of wind or someone rubs your hair or something.

Like yourself i got ultra paranoid and looked at these forums every day hoping for a cure which probably made things worse as i was stressing about it.

I ended up getting into the gym so at least if i was going to go bald ( which i still havnt ) i would be a beast lol.

I also learnt to accept my hairline may or may not get worse and i just have to deal with it and have a more positive outlook. I still get plenty of attention from girls. I just dont really care that much anymore. I realised there is more to life than worrying about your hairline.

I signed up on these forums about 8 years ago under the name "thinninghairsucks" and was on and off for afew years. Havnt been on for at least 3 or 4 until the last few days where i thought it would be worth having a scan to see when i can get my hair back :)

Looks like there are some good things going on just now....

I stopped logging in after seeing the " 5-10" years cure statement every other day.

Well i am on year 8 but there does actually seem to be alot of momentum so mabey i will have a shithot hairline again fairly soon.

To sumarise dude, take a look around you there are tons of receeding guys out there. Mabet your mates got lucky, but mabet they have small penis or ugly face or titties.... i would get shorter on the sides and just a little bit off the top and use a decent hair product to style like " got to be glued ". Its like glue you barley need any and keeps your hair looking dry

Work on feeling confident about yourself. I am now at the stage i can go into a hair dresser and say " buzz all over " and i let it grow back in which i jist did recently and realised i still have a receeder lol

Ill upload some pics

Your comment has really meant a lot to me so thankyou and thanks for showing me some pictures. I don't think your hair looks bad at all, suits you actually :)

Also gym looks like it's working out for you, I may have to do the same haha. I'm tall and skinny but couldn't hurt to try and pack more muscle on..

So you rapidly receded and then slowed right down? Well hopefully I may experience the same thing, in the mean time I will fight the good fight.

Yes there are some promising treatments in the next few years. :)

Yeh man happened quick then pretty much slowed right down. Almost exact same hair and hairline as your pic.

Your lucky cause when i was first looking on these forums it was all about hair transplants and finasteride...

I would never touch finasteride due to the fact id rather have a bit of receeder and a hard .... when it comes to the bedroom

Girls care more about your tool and what you can do with it than your hairline

Wise words. My penis and finasteride just cannot seem to form a friendship.

You are a wise man haha

Ye and it's guys like you that convince people that finasteride is not a good opton. Then when it gets to the point where it's unbearable they try it anyway. Wishing they were on it sooner.

Get on it op and if it doest work come off. Better to be In the position of giving some a shot then wishing whe it's late. I see it happening a the time. People panic when they can't handle something anymore

The side effects of going bald are worse. Won't be using your tool much if it all once you teach the point of no return
