These were taken a few days ago. Hair is buzzed at 1/2 inch all over. Obviously you can see the diffusion. Grown out the diffusion can be camoflagued fairly well (I guess), but IMO the texture and health of the hair is poor, sickly looking, greying, etc. The density difference between the sides and top is fairly apparent, even grown out. I have retrograde pretty bad on my neckline and I think there's some on the temples as well. I don't want to shave my head (I have done it before) but don't feel like I have other options at this point. Don't think the shaved look suits me though, have kind of big, proturuding ears, and a pointy, egg head. I feel like a Norwood 6 pattern (if not 6+) can be seen in these pictures so I feel like transplant is not an option. I have quite a bit of hair up top (these photos show wet hair, under harsh light) but it is diffused rat's nest type hair. I'm on Propecia for just shy of 11 months - I don't notice any difference. I'm open to transplantation and can afford it but I'm risk averse and do not want to compound my problem. If I were Norwood 3, 4, or even 5 and felt like the loss wad stable, I wouldn't hesitate to get a transplant(s). I feel like the diffusion is spreading down in the lateral hump area also, which gives me pause as far as transplant.

I have spent months and months and months worrying over this and it's taken a huge toll on my mental outlook. I'm 38.

What would you guys do at this point?

with that hair, can you bend over far enough to suck your own dick? because, some people on here have actual hair loss.

You're clearly diffusing, don't listen to buckthorn. Right now your best options are probably giving minoxidil a try (although i do not like it, i've seen a good amount of people having success with it) and besides that you can also hop on Dutasteride hoping for some more improvement. Honestly the last thing you should do now is quit finasteride (unless you're going to start duta or are getting nasty side effects, which i presume you're not), because within 2-3 years there's a very good chance of there being more treatments on the market and preventing further hairloss is the first step.

About transplants... Try to hold on for now. Your hair is still pretty good for a 38 year old, and a botched hair transplant will ruin your appearance. Basically it's a huge risk that you might regret soon once shiseido or one of the other treatments under development are released on the market.

Thanks. This is basically the route I've been taking but playing the "wait and see" game wears me down mentally somewhat. I'm the type of person who will stew and stew over a problem, then suddenly take drastic action, just to alleviate the feeling of being in limbo. I have tried minoxidil, but never with consistency. The liquid makes my head itch like a mother f***. (There's actually some foam minoxidil photo bombing me in one of the pics, lol). I guess I'll continue with the finasteride, but I feel like I'm taking a sugar pill every day. The diffused areas continue to pull out with very little effort, and I don't notice any "thickening" particularly. Its only very recently that I've felt like the diffusion is spreading towards the humps, AFTER I've been on propecia. But this could be my paranoia, I assume a positive pull test that results in a hair I can't see very well because its so thin indicates a balding area... And that's what's happening in parts along the "alleys" now.

I'm not sure if the upcoming™ treatments will help me much, the diffused hair needs reviving, not just maintainance. While I do have a good amount of hair, the pattern forming is NW6 or worse. Id love to have Jude Law type loss, get a transplant or two and call it a day.

And walking around with this goofy diffused look kills my confidence. It would be different (obviously) if I KNEW a cure/profound treatment were coming FOR sure. I could try shaving or buzzed down to a 0 and just bide my time. But walking around with a dying science project on my head wondering if it's doing anything is f*****g me up psychologically.

If I remain on finasteride and wait for developing treatments, would you guys shave or grow out hair more?

Clearly there's diffusion. IMO I think you could get away with growing it out to give an illusion with keeping the sides shorter. Trying minoxidil again with consistency is worth a shot. If you don't progress any further to let's say a NW5 a transplant would come into consideration. Good luck man.

Thanks. I was taking that approach but with the diffusion seeming to dip down further...into a NW6, it makes me feel like a transplant won't give a satisfactory result long term. All of this really f*****g sucks.

We're more or less in the same boat man, my situation is not as bad as yours but i understand how it's wearing you down. Still right now, the waiting game is the one we can play. While i don't recommend the hair transplant, do keep some money saved up for one, but keep it as your last option. Do try minoxidil and/or dutasteride first before you go for one.

Perfect concealer candidate imo. Keep it that same length and sprinkle a little Toppik up top to make the density more in line with that of your sides. You won't even need too much imo.

That's what I do and it works.

When its this short you have to use hairspray to lock it in though.

Its only a short term fix - long term we're heading to the shitter unless you get some meds for it.

Oddly enough, this is exactly what I think of your own hair situation.

QONVIyz.gif

That is what EVERY user thinks of his own hair situation. :D

By the way, OP, you're diffusing, you better get on serious treatmens if you're not already using them. You can grow it out and with a bit of concealer it'd look fine. As others rightly said, you can consider getting a hair transplant at some point. Good luck man.

Think you SHOULD WEAR a WIG AT this point, and put on hair extensions.

You should sport a style more like this guy, and THAT WOULD BE A GREAT LOOK FOR YOU!

I don't normally have a dig at you as much as I used to, but seriously what the f***? Is this some elaborate trolling or something? Do you think this post is funny and people will appreciate it?

Are you trying to add something to the conversation, be funny, or what?

People liked your posts for a while because they were so whacky, then realised you are potentially a nutcase and anyone can write this skitzo sh*t, and stopped liking them. But you've carried on.

However- I've seen you write rationally and coherently (I guess that's as close to a compliment as we'll get lol) so I know this is all an act, which is actually more f*****g annoying than if you were truly insane.

I think he's just trying to have a laugh.

We have a few jesters on the forum and I don't really mind them - just don't take them seriously.

Other jesters at least get something back, what is he getting out of this at this point? It's been going on so long.

And I didn't take it seriously and ignored it like everyone else for such a long time, but it gets to a point where it's like, why?
