Which do you think feels worse?

I'd be curious to see how long this woman's transplant will last. The second picture was taken one year after the procedure. Isn't that too soon to tell if the transplanted hairs are DHT resistant? I'm a diffuse thinner too, losing hair from the back donor area. I wonder how a doctor could tell which hairs are resistant to DHT and which are not.

Any reputable transplant Doctor will not operate on a patient with thinning donor hair. He will be able to see if the donor area is DHT sensitive by checking it for miniaturisation.

From that website: The quality of the donor hair – Patients who have thinning in the donor area should not have hair transplants. Thinning in the donor area indicates that the donor hair is susceptible to the hormones that attack hair. If transplanted, the hair may not grow or fall out in the future. Dr. Behnam examines donor hair of every patient before scheduling a procedure

Thanks for that info, Dench. Being the pessimist I am, I don't think I'd be a candidate because my hair is thinning over my entire scalp so I'm thinking that means there is miniaturization everywhere, even in the lower back where it's usually the thickest. Hopefully, EvilLocks isn't having the same issue.

A dermatologist/transplant doctor will be able to confirm for you if you are miniaturising there if you want to be sure.

Sadly, it seems like I'm having the same issue. My hair has gotten thinner in the back as well as the top, while my sides have taken the hardest hit so far. My hair seems thicker in the back, though thinner than before. So I have no choice but to wait and see how my final balding pattern will look like. I'm hoping I have some hair to spare in the back, so I can use it to create a natural hairline for my future hair piece. Sad I know, but it's all I can hope for right now.

My hair is still thicker (for lack of a better term) in the back too, but it's nowhere as thick as it was before hair loss. I'm still thinning all over too.

I'm just wondering how I can't be miniaturizing in the donor area since my hair is thinner everywhere. Doesn't hair go through truncated cycles and miniaturization in Androgenetic Alopecia? I lose a lot of tapered-end (uncut) hairs of various lengths and diameters, so that means my hair is short cycling. I also lose a lot of hair every day. At my peak sheds, just the ones I've counted (I don't do that anymore) have totaled close to 400, and that doesn't include what falls out during the day and at night when I brush it (I have a habit of brushing my hair to death to get this sh*t over with).

Well being a Norwood 7 at least you have the peace of mind that it can't get worse. there's nothing to fear anymore but at the same time you're living a nightmare. I've thought about this myself and it's a tough question

Lol first time I've seen you cussing, but I guess it's a fitting word for the situation. At the beginning of my hair loss adventure I shed tons of hairs too, and it was sooo frustrating. Hairs everywhere, and showering was a nightmare. Thankfully I stopped shedding so much, but my hair kept thinning nevertheless. Just praying the shedding doesn't come back on top of everything else, but knowing my luck perhaps it will.

I'm glad your shed lessened and hope it doesn't ever pick up again. Do you see much regrowth?

Yes, I'm very happy I'm not shedding much. It was a nightmare for sure, and I shed non-stop for over 9 months, with hundreds of hairs coming out every day. But I had so much hair to begin with, so it wasn't visible for a long time. If my hair started shedding again now however, it wouldn't take long before I'd need a hair piece. I don't have any hair to spare (lol) now. And no, I don't see much regrowth. I've started a natural supplement called HairCare recently but I'm not expecting much. I'll make a post about it if it gives any results whatsoever.
