A couple of weeks ago my uncle asked me if I am balding and recommended that I should just shave it all off for a clean look. Of course, I am not going to take what he said seriously. Unlike me, my uncle is a fullhead, so he probably has not thought too deeply about the implications of shaving your head.
People who say it's better for balding people to shave their hair off are committing a localist's fallacy. Their reasoning is this: A balding head is patchy and imperfect, whereas a bald head looks smooth and "perfect". They think this makes bald better than balding. It is true that a bald scalp might be on some level more aesthetic than a balding scalp. But the point is not how your scalp looks, the more important thing is how your entire head looks. And when you have some hair, you holistically almost always look better and younger than when you have no hair.
My boss for example is an extreme diffuse thinner with very little hair density on the top of his scalp. On the top of his scalp his scalp it looks really bad, like a barren forest. You might think that because of this it would be better to shave his head and go for a clean bald look. He has shaved his hair before, and it gets rid of the barren forest look on the top of his scalp, but holistically it makes him look much worse and older. Just having something that people subconsciously identify as "hair" on top of your scalp is so important for your appearance. It is worth any imperfections in your hairline or hair density.
