not always true

were you using foam rogaine or the liquid version?

Using Liquid 5%, I have now swapped to a generic brand because the price is so much cheaper.

I am def noticing a shed from using the foam on my temples. I only started applying it about a month ago so this would be expected. I used it on my the rest of my head and saw a massive shed, only to all come back thicker within 3 months. Its worth it...stay on it

you know I think we need to petition HairLossTalk.com to make an entire section on the forum dedicated to this phenomenon known as shedding.

I was kind of surprised at how much hair I lost after only ten days. I had read the forums, so I anticipated shedding, but I never expected to lose that much so quickly.

That's crazy! Maybe something more serious is wrong with you.

The 2% Minoxidil has been shown to stimulate hair growth in about 30% of male patients and a slightly higher rate in females. The 5% solution has a slightly higher response rate.

Well, that's the 2% solution you're referring to. The 5% solution has a higher success rate (not sure of the figure...55% or something...Bryan?) The foam has an 85% success rate according to the website. I personally started using the foam 2 months ago and I've been seeing faster regrowth on my crown.

Just to tell you a bit about my minoxidil experience. I started using it in June 2002 as a sole treatment. By itself it brought my temples from a NW3-4 to a Norwood 2 and shrunk a slick bald spot. It basically kept my hair from appearing any worse and somewhat better in spots for 4 years. I added finasteride this April and it gave new life to the minoxidil. I've regrown an incredible amount of hair in the last 8 months. I'm 37 now and my hair is probably the same as it was when I was 28/29....maybe not quite as dense on top, but the hairline is just about the same and everything is still coming in.....I have good vellus growth all along the hair line and temple area from about when I was 25.

That's awesome! Can you post picks? I didnt know the foam has an 85% success rate.

I don't have any before pics so there would be nothing to compare to. I really wish I did so you guys could see the potential of finasteride/minoxidil. I'll admit that I'm probably an unusually good responder as I've blown the "you can only grow 7 years of hair back" theory out of the water. Maybe I'll take some pics of my current situation and attempt to photo shop them to show how it was at it's worst. My hair is still far from perfect. It's quite thin on the vertex and still have quite a big bald spot on the crown, but compared to the way it was just prior to treatments is nothing short of miraculous and I think even better days are coming.....and I still have dutasteride to try if need be.

I was referring to the quote Cassin took from CCS about eating alot of beans and that he has 20X more gas than his friends and whenever there is a smell they know it's from him.

Classic CCS!

foam users have an 85% success rate, probably because they use it more. minoxidil grows fuzz for me. I don't usually use it long enough to keep the fuzz, though. mess stuff. I just dumped some in my NANO for now.

college, you dumped the minoxidil!? is it possibly that the fuzz/vellous hairs will turn into terminal hairs down the line?

maybe they would of. I still put it in my hair once a week since I don't want a shed. I just felt like the extra topical was too much hassel for some fuzz, when applepoly might do the same thing, and I'm using NANO with minoxidil in it, and minoxidil can stink a bit when mixed with spironolactone. Maybe i'll add it again. I don't think I'll shed anything except maybe a little fuzz.

you think minoxidil is that strong? to do cosmetically helpful growth?

That's a good analysis. The "Rogaine Liquid 5%" formulation is extremely unwieldy to use. I can imagine some serious user compliance issues in carrying out the recommended dosaging.

I got into a spar with another poster about this way back when. He asked me why I use Rogaine at night, and Dr Lee #500 during the day. He said that by not using the Rogaine for both I was selling myself short in terms of results, as he thought the original recipie Rogaine is more effective than the quick drying Dr Lee #500. I countered that regardless of the comparative efficacies, because Dr Lee 500 was quick drying, it made it easier for me to strictly adhere to a 2x day application regimen, whereas when I did Rogaine in the am, I would frequently skip morning applications due to drying time constraints.

I combine Kirkkand minoxidil and Rogaine foam. Foam in the morning and minoxidil on the evening. Is that ok?

The same thing happened to me. I could not belive the shedding it gave me. I stopped it right away and never looked back. Now I am regrowing these lost hair and more with my regimen. Plus I started to get harier and harier on my fingers hands eyebrows.
I WILL NEVER EVER use minoxil again.
