Well, I suppose 13 is a good age for a kid to have his first paternity test. It's kind of become a sort of "coming of age" moment in our society nowadays.....

You Brits are so cold sometimes.... You can't wait until your kids are 18, so that you could wash your hands off of your kids. I don't really like that. My housemates don't even visit their parents because the parents "can't accommodate". Don't they have a spare sofa for the weekend?

Cutting the cord shouldn't mean literally getting rid off the kids, it should mean letting the kids be independent.

And on the other hand... ever more 'kids' are going back to the family home after Uni is done with. And not just for a flying visit but a full on, multi-year experience.

Of course you do have those for whom children seem to have been one giant inconvenience.

The problem is not sex at age 12, the problem is having a
child at age 12. I think it's funny that society has made such an
issue out of a totally natural biological process. It's just like having
babies... do we really need all the hospitals and C-sections to
make something happen that is going to happen anyway? A
human is able to have sex when they reach puberty and nothing
we can do will stop many of these kids from doing it. The best
thing we can do is prepare them for it as best we can. Make
sure your daughters respect themselves and have high self
esteem and make sure your sons (and daughters) take the needed
precautions. It is my belief that is the best you can do in today's
sex-soaked medium.

I would not want my children being forced into sex by any means,
whether it be peer pressure or rape. But I think it's very possible
to raise a mature son or daughter (and I have) and when they are
ready they know it and know to take the proper precautions to
avoid a baby at 12 and 14. I also know that raging hormones can
make delaying sex a fight that most parents will not win. There is
little rational thought in the matter when two young kids find
each other attractive and each decides that the other is going
to be their first. You just are not going to stop it.

I know in my case I had the opportunity to have sex at age 12
with a very hot, but older young lady. It was to the point of both
us were totally naked, but to be honest I'm not sure I knew
exactly what to do. I'm not even sure I knew I was supposed to do
anything else LOL... this was WAY before the internet and free
information about all things sex related. Fortunately her mom
came home and I made a quick getaway. But I have no doubt
that same scene repeated today would have that 12 year old
without protection going for it. And for me it did happen a couple
of years later, my parents had somehow installed into me the need
for condoms and I actually marched into the store and bought a
pack at the ripe old age of 14. I've instilled that into my kids and I
know they handled it correctly when the time came. I was not
happy about the age in one case, but as I said, all we can do is
make sure they are prepared. And guess what... not one teen
pregnancy in our family.

I'll say it again... it's not teen sex that is the problem. Sex is a
great thing, it's teenage pregnancy that is a problem.
There is NO excuse for it. And in a lot of cases I fully believe that
many of these teen mothers want to be teen mothers for a whole
range of reasons.

I don't follow the tabloids, I meant the toilet papers, but the "mainstream" media started talking about it as well. One of the geezas in my house gives me daily updates on the subject unk:

We think they should do a DNA test on Jeremy Kyle show, that's gonna be a huge hit if they can pull it off.... The only problem is, under 16s aren't allowed on the show for legal reasons. They need to find a way around it....
