I used castor oil topically and I am definitely a fan. I'm currently doing it orally. The reason I stopped doing it topically is that it made my scalp and hair too greasy, hard to wash out. But I do believe it definitely assisted the wound healing and improved the quality of hair. Just hard to deal with cosmetically. It would probably be great if it could be mixed into some kind of vehicle.

CB is supposed to be similar to RU, albeit weaker, but with less sides. However it's quite expensive. I haven't tried it.

Maybe try fluridil or alfatradiol for an antiandrogen, could try stemoxydine for a growth stimulant. All of those have low side effect profiles.

Are you having sides from finasteride? Sometimes people use it topically and they go away.

I already have a bit of side from finasteride (the usual ones like libido) and probably not responding well due to increase inflammation on the scalp (not sure if it's because of other underlying issues like thyroid problems). Most people say to give finasteride at least 8 to 12 months, but I don't know if I am willing to gamble on that.

I really hope the biestro, keto cream and dermarolling will show slight improvements to my density and hairline.

IMO around 6-8 months you'll probably know if it's going to work or not. If not, I'd drop it. I gave finasteride way too many chances. Inhibitors are weird drugs.

I don’t think that’s enough. Some see results after a year. If you experience worse shedding/loss of hair throughout that entire time, maybe stop.

My contention is that if you don't see ANY progress, or you are worse off by 6 months, then it probably isn't working. Yes, hair is cyclical in nature and you will may experience a second or even a third finasteride-induced shed. But if you are a positive responder, you should see at least SOME kind of improvement by then, especially if you are doing 1mg/day. It would also be a good idea to keep an eye on your body hair. An increase in this is not a good sign.

Yes, prolonged AR upregulation/reflex hyperandrogenicity is the risk, but 1) it’s rare so most likely you’re experiencing the classic finasteride shed (which IMO is just a hair cycle shed based on hormonal changes, could be androgen downregulation or temporary upregulation causing it) and 2) if you don’t experience increased body hair/sebum/increased libido for a long time as you’re also shedding, you’re fine.

I wonder if there’s an increased in upregulation for younger guys. I’m assuming the hormonal system for younger people is a bit more prone to reflex.

Based on Norwoody response, I think I might have to drop it sooner. I am starting to believe that I really have reflex hyperandrogenicity from searching on all sites (increase inflammation, itch at donor/safe areas). It really sucks but I guess I really am not a responder to any DHT inhibit meds. Really thought I was gonna respond well due to diffuse thinning and shitloads of body hair prior finasteride.

Guys today I’ve been shedding on my crown area which I found weird. Does my crown look like it’s showing typical male pattern baldness? I’m starting to think I might have Telogen Effluvium, shedding has stopped at my front/hairline area. Still waiting on my finasteride to arrive via UPS.

In my opinion, still looks normal. Might wait for others to comment on it.
Thanks I’ve been freaking out idk what is going on with my hair. What should I look for if it’s Telogen Effluvium? Here’s some without flash Idk if flash makes things appear differently???

TD, how long have you been on finasteride?

Almost entering 6 months now. I am unsure if I should still continue until the end of the year. Feels like I am stuck on a crossroads as even taking AA or topical estrogen might not have much impact after reading more threads for those suspect of reflex androgenictiy.

For Telogen Effluvium, the end of the root hair usually has a "white bulb" substance. Those hairs would usually return with the same thickness & quality and not prone to miniaturisation.

Crown looks good
If I feel like I have been thinning on top it would have shown prominently on my crown area right? So if crown looks good could it just be Telogen Effluvium or seasonal shed? I notice tip of hair shed has white stuff on it or white bud

Maybe wait about 3 more months before giving the final verdict on it.

From what I understand the white bulbs don't signify anything. It's just keratin/skin and all shed hairs have some.

Hey guys my hair whorl has been making me feel suspicious. Hair feels a bit finer there and also in the lower back of my head I’m wondering if its possible that I’m stressing so much that my hair is feeling thinner or it’s classic male pattern baldness. Does it look like male pattern baldness in my crown area?

Hey I noticed this when checking my hairline. there so much sebum plugs or white specs along that area not sure why. Could this be a scalp infection? Also here’s an update on my hairline I haven’t looked at it in over a week. What norwood? Is that miniaturization at the front?

Probably from the telogen effluvium. You should get a hair specialist for further scalp biopsy to clear your mind.

I was doing some reading and a lot of sources mention the white bulb may be correlated with Telogen Effluvium. Your hair honestly doesn't look "miniaturized" - the base of your follicles all look thick actually. Are your shed hairs typically as thick as the attached hairs?
