SE stands for Scalp Excercise. (lol, SE-Freak should finally edit his first post, this has been asked like a 100 times now.)

I'm surprised SE still sticks around after all the same questions over and over....

Hey SE Freak, I have a question for you. Do you smoke cigarettes or weed or have you never touched them before? If you do are you a frequent smoker or just once in a while?

No I do not smoke cigarettes, in fact I hate them! Having to hit the shower at 6am because my pillow and hair stinks after 4 hours of crying in a crowded bar/club ... that sucks...

I can personally tell smokers from non-smokers just by skin color.
How can something affecting skin quality not affect hair? (I do not say that smoking can trigger or accelerate male pattern baldness, just stating the obvious- it could degrade hair quality)

Anyway, there are better reasons for not smoking than having better hair. That's for sure.

Dear SE-Freak...
Congrats on your results, i'm starting my was against male pattern hairloss...I have receding temples, and loss of hair on top... I can't afford using propecia, so i'll use proscar, cutting tablets into 4 quarters, and here come my questions:
1- I read somewhere else, that because the cut tablet won't logically end up with the exact amount of finasteride for each quarter, shed will never stop, as this will affect hormones in different amount each day due to different amount of finasteride...is that true?
2- what do you use to cut proscar, does air touching the cut quarters affect the benefit of it?
thanks a lot

Hi there :)

I am not a doctor, but my guess is that hormones are dynamic, highs and lows. At the following chart you will see that the amount of finasteride and the serrum dht amount bound are not proportional. Small quantities of finasteride have similar effects to larger amounts. So this is not exact science imo.

Think of it this way, as long as your dht levels stay below your default ones (your dht levels in the parallel universe where you choose not to start taking the drug) your hair will be damaged to a lower extent, so you will regrow-maintain more or bald less.

To answer your second question, I currently bite pieces off the pill once per day-I am experienced enough to know what a 1/5pill chunk should be.
For starters, cut your proscar in fifths (1mg of finasteride daily) and, as long as your drawer is not underwater, pieces of the pill will not be damaged.

Thanks SE-Freak for the answers...
I really appreciate it, as I said in my questions, what do people say sometimes make persons like me delay starting their treatement on time...
Just to make sure, so you advice me to use proscar and you think I won't had worse hairloss than I laready have now?
2-how long do you expect (on average0 the shedding to start, and does it start exactly after starting taking proscar?

again and again thanks for your replies, your answers always give us some hope...

Re: 32 months on the big 3 and counting... (32month pics update)

sorry i forgot to ask you... I'll see a dermatologist also to keep him supervising everything so i'll have an appointement this week...but before that i'll do a blood tests, what things in that test that i should ask to be examined so i can give him clear idea about my health related to hair...
2- is the level of dht in blood after taking proscar will be less and can i rely on that to see if the medicine is working...

Thanks again

shadipnp:

I am just an average hairloss sufferer, not a guru or doctor.

Having bloodwork done is good-not sure of what specific tests you should take if you are already diagnosed with male pattern baldness.

No one can guarantee that you will not shed, although I find a major initial shed on inhibitors(like proscar) only not likely. I would not be afraid of shedding if I were you, especially after you have decided on a hairloss treatment approach. People should give at least 8-12months to their initial treatment to trully decide if it worked for them.

Everyone taking finasteride (proscar-propecia) will have lower serrum dht levels. What happens to hair though is another story. There are posters that have reported shedding after starting finasteride. Is it due to hyperandrogenecity, system shock or just simply their treatment not working? who knows.

Anyway, it is a very personal choice, the one you make to treat your hairloss, make sure you keep yourself educated on hair, even after starting treatment and be patient and willing to give your treatment a chance to work for at least 8-12 months. This will take time.

Hi SE, wow some results there, fantastic

when you say people shredd when using finasteride, do you mean that their hair fall out and do you notice it on your head, if so does this not defeat the purpose of using finasteride, looking at your photos i dont see any sign of a shedd.

also does anyone recommend a good site that supplies 5mg finasteride

thanks
Sky

I merely mentioned what some other unsutisfied finasteride users report. I do not think I personally experienced a shed due to finasteride.

Hi SE,

I was wondering.. if using Propecia/minoxidil indefinitely, does it mean one sheds indefinitely through intervals too.. does it ever stop?

Hello :>

My guess is that there is some synchronization during the first couple of years due to treatment- especially for those using minoxidil, but I think it eventually balances out.

Re: 32 months on the big 3 and counting... (32month pics update)

Hi Ryan

I have never used foam, only liquid minoxidil.
Indeed, my hair is darker than before starting treatment. And it is still long, in a month or two it will be the longest I ever had.

I apply minoxidil at the temple area and vertex, these areas being the ones with the major problem. The hair there did not reach the quality and density of my non male pattern baldness areas, but it is impressive nevertheless.

Up to now, I think I have not experienced a decline in quality/haircounts . lucky me. Not sure of what the maintenance period could be, in fact I am not more qualified than you to give that answer.

ok so you apply minoxidil all over the top of your head.. correct?

And if you only apply it to the top then why is your back and sides black as well ?

Not sure, minoxidil effects a larger area than that of the application (hence unwanted facial hair growth) so obviously it could alter pigmentation of other areas too.

Finasteride also has an effect overall, so that could be possible too.

SE, well, who cares about exotic Mumbo jumbo? :)
