So the cure is here already?

No, the cure is not here. :p

A true cure would be one that will work for everyone without it being some medication with possible side effects. Dutasteride is not a cure, it's a treatment, and probably one of the best treatments currently available for male pattern baldness which is why I'm enjoying the benefits of the medication so much.

Agustin seems like a good guy, but some of his claims on dutasteride are pretty bold.

Thanks Notcoolanymore. :)

Yes, my claims on Dutasteride are pretty bold. The medication has been working for me a lot better than what I expected and is a reason why I like talking about it so much.

He also has not been on it a long time, really getting carried away, but he is a down to earth kind of person. Yes I know there are 4 year trials for dutasteride and male pattern baldness that show good success, but not a longer length of time to judge it. It is a great tool against male pattern baldness, but not bullet proof as such, nothing is.

Also if you got DUPA, it's game over. No medication or transplants will save you sadly. They just don't respond much to anything long term, generally speaking of course.

You're right, I'm definitely getting carried away with Avodart. The medication worked a lot better for me than what I expected and is why I've been raving so much about it. My hair hasn't improved much at all, though has been maintaining extremely well on Dutasteride. At this point, I am for sure that I would have maintained very well with Finasteride instead. I definitely cannot truly judged how good the efficacy of the medication really is since I've only been on it for three months, though has so far been working better than what I expected.

I think I might actually have DUPA. I usually keep my hair medium length. I recently got a hair cut and had the back and sides trimmed short. I noticed that I've lost a little bit of density in those areas, mainly behind my ears and the back of my neck I've lost some hair. My hair in those areas aren't completely resistant to DHT like someone with true DPA.

Maintenance is not a cure.

It's not a cure but not for that reason, medically speaking. Even if dutasteride stopped hairloss in 100% of people, it's still not a cure. You have to take it daily to keep the problem at bay so it can't be considered a cure.

The cure is surgery. Restores hair to a previously bald area that is DHT resistant and independent of any maintenance requirement. It's a cure technically, although limited donor supply is the issue for advanced norwoods.

Why is this?

I think it's poorly understood but I hear it a lot from doctors. That it doesn't respond much to anything and a transplant is not feasible as all your hair is going.

I didn't mean to offend you and glad you didn't take it that way. I understand why you are happy. Believe me, finasteride is working wonders for me too. But if you suspect you have DUPA and also considering your thinning in a NW6/7 pattern, who knows how long dutasteride will hold up. It's good to be positive but only the years and decades to come will you know the drug's true value to you as an individual.

I agree with your comment about finasteride. I do always believe people should at least start on it first but it's up to the person. My hairline is heading back to a Norwood 2, I can tell. Key will be density. Few hairs have gone terminal and the rest of the Norwood 2 area is full of "dots" or small hairs which weren't there before. I added derma rolling in once a week about a month go, not sure if it's that or finasteride. Most likely finasteride.

Same question as evil locks, why is that? I have DUPA, so is it useless to keep putting minoxidil on my scalp and keep hoping?
so a cure like lausters won't be curing us either, because all our hair are sensitive, so they can't be used for multiplication, even if they do, they will start thinning again because of the sensitivity, or am I wrong?

It's not useless, it can buy you time, but yes ultimately it most likely will fail long term. I was mainly talking about males with DUPA. I haven't really read up on female hair balding outside of medical conditions like in relation to thyroid issues e.t.c.

I'm not clued up on future treatments like ones by Lauster, best to ask Hellouser who has read up a lot. Generally though you know how you're responding to a treatment within the first year.

Yes, I am happy with Avodart. It's nice that Finasteride is working very well for you. Yes, I have suspected possible DUPA along with my NW6 thinning pattern, who truly knows how long Dutasteride will hold up my hair since I have aggressive male pattern baldness at a young age. I've been considering on trying RU58841, but seems like such a hassle to find a reliable supplier who won't sell the treatment contaminated, and then getting the supplies and all that stuff to create your own batches.

Yes, I'm sure I would have maintained well with Finasteride. The reason why I hopped on Dutasteride first is because my male pattern baldness is so aggressive and didn't want to risk to keep losing any hair on Finasteride that would otherwise be maintained on Avodart.

See a hair transplant Doctor and see what they say in regards to your suspected DUPA. That's what I would do first Agustin.

I would also look into RU, ultimately minoxidil won't do much for you since you have been on it all these years and doesn't seem to be regrowing even in combination with dutasteride.

I would try a dutasteride/RU combo and take it from there. I know it's a pain in the a$$ to apply and also get hold off but certainly might be needed.

I worry about this as well... I worry that even if/when there comes a cure, I won't be curable because of my DUPA :'( It really seems hopeless now...

DUPA is extremely rare, even I believed I had DUPA at a point because my hair on the sides seemed to thin.

In fact, it was only because they were buzzed short, no DUPA.

I would have it confirmed by a top surgeon EvilLocks, if you can get in touch with one. He will tell it to you like it is.

Maybe you'll see that you're in a situation that's as desperate as you think. The surgeon could even suggestion a good transplant plan.

Fred, DUPA is rare among men but it's more common among females with Androgenetic Alopecia. I guess I could have a surgeon confirm it but I'm already pretty sure I have DUPA as my sides are worse than anywhere on my head, and the back is affected too. It seems like I'm thinning all over my head, not just the top :( Pretty sure I'm not a candidate for a hair transplant.

"Not a candidate for hair transplant", how many times have I heard that on the forums, by surgeons and clinic representatives.

Now look at me with my 2000 grafts on my head! What you probably have is DPA.

I know that the sides close to your temples points can seem thin, but you won't know for sure until you get a confirmation from a professional.

DUPA is really hopeless and also very very fast. You said your hair line is receded.

DUPA patients don't have that for example, their hair loss is a complete mess. There is no pattern at all like a steady recession: hence why it's call diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA).

The reason you could have 2000 grafts transplanted on your head, is because you have stable back and sides donor. I don't have this, why is that so hard to understand. Even if I had stable donor, I would most likely not benefit from a transplant as a woman's hair needs to be dense all over to look good. You're a man and you keep it buzzed, so density is less needed for an OK result. It isn't the same for a woman, best case I'd have a thin and see-through coverage on top from the transplant. But as my sides and back are also thinning, I can't even have that.

It seems hard for you to understand but I really believe I have DUPA. I also think my hair has went pretty fast considering I had a lions mane in the beginning and now just a thin layer of hair left. I've lost all that hair in a matter of 2-3 years, Idk if you would say that is fast but I think it is.

Look, I wish more than anything there was a solution to my case, but there really isn't, besides a wig (which you know is not a viable solution for hair loss). If I could have a hair transplant and magically look normal again, I would. But you need to accept that not everyone is a candidate for hair transplants, and that's the truth.

Yes my hair line has receded, but the rest of my hair has also thinned. And it isn't just the temple points that's receded, the whole side is much thinner than before.

phototake_rm_photo_of_female_hair_loss.jpg

I found a picture online which shows the kind of thinning my hair is. This woman's hair is worse than mine is, but it's the same pattern kinda. How do you suggest this woman have a hair transplant?

So yeah, between a hair transplant and a hair piece, definitely go for the hair transplant. Between a hair piece and nothing, especially as a woman? Go for the hair piece!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Shame it has to be so expensive though, to look and feel a bit more normal. These hair pieces are too damn expensive :( A hair transplant is actually way cheaper, since it's permanent and doesn't have to be replaced so and so often.

I got a scalp biopsy by a hair transplant doctor in 2012 when I was 19 to check if there was anything else wrong with why I was losing hair. The results came back from the lab with nothing wrong going on in my body and that it's only Male Pattern Baldness. They never told me anything about DPA or DUPA. I could just be imagining that I have DUPA, if I really had it I probably would hardly have any hair left. If the hair on the sides of my head don't keep thinning out then I won't worry about having DUPA.

I actually have been looking into RU58841. Minoxidil helped keep a lot of my hair without any Dutasteride for 3+ years. Now that I've been taking 0.5 mg of Dutasteride for a little over three months and 2.5 mg of oral Minoxidil for over a month, I should be getting good regrowth this year with that combo. I still haven't been on Avodart and oral Minoxidil long enough to conclude how effective the two combined really are.

I am definitely trying the combination of Dutasteride and RU58841 and see how it goes from there. It won't be a problem for me to apply since I did do that with Minoxidil twice daily for a while, so using a topical and applying it on my head in a NW6 pattern won't be anything new to me. At this point, I'm sure RU58841 might be needed.

Have you seen any changes yet? Shed? Slight improvement? Some guys show improvement pretty early on.

I'm 5 months in. Healthy hair can't be thicker. Lots of smaller hairs within the forelock. Hairline used to be see through beyond the 2.5 pattern, used to extend to almost 3. Now can barely see through the hairline and slowly creeping forwards. Crown feels fuller but still looks thinner in some pictures. I believe for finasteride, the older you are, the better you do according to trials. Also the more you grow in the first year, it's like almost 100% certain that up to 10 years you will maintain or grow more. Only 1% chance you would be below baseline if you do well in the first year. According to the 10 year trial.

Made the mistake of rolling my crown yesterday, pulled out hairs lol. My gf was shaking her head.

Just to add I am not a "very good responder" yet anyway, I feel I am in the "improved" category.

If you're on dutasteride and minoxidil, normally minoxidil gives you results within 4 months. In fact the manufacturers if Rogaine recommend discontinuing if you don't, minoxidil is fast acting. I understand your situation is different as you were on it ages ago but you would expect a boost within the first 4 months.

I'm just on finasteride, not added minoxidil but getting improvement. Hopefully you will within the first 6 months especially with the minoxidil there.

I think I even saw improvement within 3 months, but I am too lazy to look up my pics, so I am not 100% positive.
