I checked again and it is actually 4 months of growth that it takes to get coverage. Convinced looking at these that a lot of diffusers just haven't tried growing it out properly. It clearly isn't just a lighting issue.

Reference of 1 month in dull lighting:

4 months of growth length - 6 months post-op

After seeing this, I was letting my hair grow out quite a few weeks longer until this week, normally I don't wait more than like 5 weeks to get it cut again, but this was closer to 2 months. But for some reason when you grow it out, the diffuse just disappears completely, not the case for everyone

So I went with it, and gave it another go because it's been years since I let it grow, and it was going pretty well up until only this week when it turned to absolute sh*t. 20mins or so after my morning shower I had to run water through it again and dry it to puff it up a bit, otherwise it was just scraggly bits, and my temples had given this awful overly obvious comb over. I mean I always have somewhat of a temple comb over, even when short, but this was like a clump of hair just stuck to the sides of my forehead, there was nothing I could do with it either, if I brushed it back it's like I looked over NW3, if I pushed it forward it had a mind of it's own. It looked so stupid.

And the fringe at that length was also so unpredictable, I went for a nap and woke up with my hair completely see through, and the hairs were sticking together unpredictably going in all sorts of weird strands and directions, of course another run of hot water made it passable again.

So now I've remembered why I don't let it go out of control, there's always a week when it just gets unpredictably bad, and I don't know when it will strike (roughly weeks 6-9 I'd say). As long as I cut it every month, which I just did again, it can usually somewhat look like a normal head of hair (for a 30 year old) unless under harsh circumstances.

I didn't even get my fringe cut that much (I'll need to next time though), and just the middle and crown trimmed a bit, so the middle part is basically the same yet the temple clumps just fucked the whole operation up. Growing it out a bit did give a nice impression of more flowing thick hair up until a point, and then all hell breaks loose and that's too damn much to deal with.

I'm just happy it looks normal again and I don't have to run it through water at random moments in a state of panic (just ripping my shirt off and still wearing jeans).
