And in the center ring... the US Presidential Election...

Queue the circus music!

This is going to be one seriously wild ride!

You got the first black candidate, his connections to shady Chicago financiers, a crusty temperamental ex-fighter pilot, a moose-eating "guns and god" female from Alaska, with a pregnant 17 year old daughter, a hurricane in New Orleans, violent protests at the convention in St Paul...

What next?!? The GOP brass must be cringing.

There is a cynical part of me, very cynical, that wonders if not only McCain knew about Palin's daughter's pregnancy, but actually thought this might be a TRAP to lure mysognist Democrats, and highlight this as a means of attracting female voters.

I smell a Karl Rove at work.

The more that left wing bloggers try to smear Palin with this, the more distasteful the Obama camp might look to a lot of women.

They need to watch their step here... best to just let this issue drop and not get embroiled into any "hypocrisy" attacks, lest those same attacks come right back to bite them.

I dunno man...I just don't see it. Thats something that happens to "low class democrats" and I can't see them angling for democratic votes that way.

I think your suffering from ohmygodthesec*ntsabouttosetatrapophobia. This is quite a normal condition. Symptoms include paranoia, anxiety, restless, heightened awareness..... I experienced it here during the last Australian election.

It's what happens when you've been governed (ruled) by some of the most manipulative, sneaky, calculating mofos who have gutter politics down to a fine art. You refuse to let your guard down, convinced that the grand event which has been concocted in some right wing control centre for the last 6 months is about to be unleashed and will give the public the large dose of fear required to forget how they've been gang raped over the past x years and return the assailants to power.

Then election day rolls around, your on the edge of your seat with all kinds of apocolyptic visions racing through your mind. Then before you know it the election is over. It's a landslide. You've seen how your fears were misplaced. The evil doers had actually run out of ideas and the general public had just realized it might time to try something new.

then again...

Yep. That's me... you hit the fricking nail on the head.

In my original post I referenced Karl Rove. Not sure if you know about him, but he's the master electoral manipulator... or as Bush refers to him, "The Architect".

Give him a cell phone and a modest budget, and he'd get Osama Bin Laden a Senate seat.

I'm so tired of talking politics already that I am bowing out of any further discussion.

I don't get why theirs such a big fuss over a 17 year old girl being pregnant... 17 year old girl's have sex... Inevitably some of them must end up pregnant.. Honestly We are way too uptight over sex.

I think a lot of the chatter is due to the republicans claiming that teaching abstinence, as opposed to actual birth control, is a successful way to prevent teen pregnancy.

That, and George Bush Senior's VP candidate, Dan Quayle, in an infamous speech cited a popular television show at the time (Murphy Brown) and claimed that the lead character in the show's unmarried pregnancy was a symptomatic of moral decline.

I wasn't having sex when I was 17, what is too young when she cannot on her own, accept the responsibilities of a child.

It's just White trash in the white house (yeah I know she will not really live in the white house)

I think Sarah Palin is a liberal's dream come true. If McCain doesn't lose himself the election, Palin will.

I had a nice chat with my sister this morning (the former US Ambassador, and a big Democrat), and she told me how bowled-over she was by Sarah Palin's performance last night at the convention. She was surprised at her ability to deliver such a big speech in front of so many people, her presence, her ability to connect with people, etc. This may not bode well for the Democrats in November, after all...

I think it's hard to tell at this point. Her speech was full of invective and empty of content. She's not going to be able to keep that up for long, and not every moment on the campaign trail is scripted, which McCain is grateful for. She comes off as inexperienced and vapid, and has no gravitas whatsoever. After all the crap everyone threw at Hillary for complaining about sexism (including Palin), the Republicans are now using the same card and I don't think it will work. She's a hypocrite and a hack, and has an apparently unvetted history that is a treasure trove for the media. I'll be impressed if she can hold her own till the end of the month.
