And in the center ring... the US Presidential Election...

I'd be interested in hearing some of them, on both sides, start talking about policies that they intend to implement, rather than the relentless "this is my story" BS.

could McCain's speech have been anymore brain-disintegratingly boring and terrifying at the same time?

"Keep fighting" 'We'll do the right thing', "Lets fight", "Country first", "I've always been a fighter" "Yay for America" 'We're a nation of fighters" "It's all about fighting" "Don't stop fighting"

Sounded to me like the underlying theme was: America has no problems, lets revel in it's greatness, anybody who doesn't is not a true American.

It was more like a rally than a convention. I was waiting for the sycophants to stop their cheering and break into a full sieg heil.

If McCain gets in then there is going to be some really scary times ahead.

I don’t want to sound ageist, but McCain is awfully old to be running for the president at 73. He is not much younger than my Gramps. :)

Exactly he could go at anytime, if he got elected there's a good chance that Palin could one day end up as the most powerful person on the planet. :freaked2:

I think Sarah Palin is a liberal's dream come true. If McCain doesn't lose himself the election, Palin will.

I had a nice chat with my sister this morning (the former US Ambassador, and a big Democrat), and she told me how bowled-over she was by Sarah Palin's performance last night at the convention. She was surprised at her ability to deliver such a big speech in front of so many people, her presence, her ability to connect with people, etc. This may not bode well for the Democrats in November, after all...

I don't know. I agree that Palin delivered her speech surprisingly well, but her problem isn't whether or not she can deliver a speech in front of a big crowd, its her inexperience combined with her extremely conservative leaning with maybe a touch of personal integrity issues thrown in. My prediction: Biden will kill her on the first, she'll kill herself on the second, and the third will either become a constant nuisance or dissapear completely within the next few weeks. She's not really going to have another opportunity to deliver a carefully crafted speech with teleprompters in front of thousands of rabid supporters again. The conventions are over.

x10! I tried to watch it, but he was God awful boring and didn't seem to be addressing anything important besides talking about how he was a POW and how he didn't like to fight, but had always been a fighter and America is always up for a fight etc. He didn't talk about anything I considered important at all.

I wanted to tell everyone there to shut the f*ck up and let him talk. He'd say, "I" and they'd all start chanting. I had to turn it off after 30 min of listening to the mindless BS.

The way I see it, it's a fresh outsider who wants to empower people, and who talks like an intelligent ADULT and shows the ability to REASON and not just endlessly regurgitate pre-canned talking points, versus the latest incarnation of the American Fascist Evangelical Robber Baron Oligarch Party.

AFERBOP strikes again.

ps. if you'd put some thought into that i'm sure we would now be enjoying a far better acronym.

I think he's 72, and a fairly spry 72 at that. As a comparison, Churchill was 71 when the war ended, and began his second term as P.M. aged 77 - he stood down four years later after a stroke rendered him partially paralyzed.

Sir John de Sully, K.G. is believed to have been 75 years old when he took to the field at Poitiers alongside his Lord, the Black Prince. Not sure how active a role he took in proceedings, although his annual stipend was increased in recognition of the service he had rendered at the battle, but simply riding in a full suit of armour shows remarkable fitness for a man of his age.

Was it full plate mail or just dress armour, which would not stand up to battle.

Full plate mail can still be quite light (20kgs) and dress armour well lets just say I would not like to be hit by a war hammer with it on!

Sorry to say that there are probably many, many women who will vote for McCain/Palin merely due to gender.

Of course I'll take those idiot votes in order to keep a Commie, anti-gun Democrat out of the White House.

Bryan: Did you happen to read the SCOTUS decision on DC v. Heller. It made me SO HAPPY! Finally, after a lifetime of fighting the anti-gunners. :bravo:

Who is Matt Damon?

Oh wait, that fair and impartial actor who has learned so much by being a Hollywood type all his adult life. Nevermind.

Aplunk, once again we have extremists running on both tickets.

Oh well, I WON the Heller case!! :punk:

I wouldn't let an armed sheep watch my back, not with the number of lambs I've devoured.

The records aren't that specific (it was 650 years ago) but I doubt a man with 60-odd years of experience would ride onto a battlefield wearing something flimsy. I can remember that it was quite shiny, does that help?

Starseed, I think you may have hit upon one of the very few sexual fetishes not yet catered for on the internet. Get yourself a web-site and a camera and start advertizing for female talent.

sure.......... we can use Palin and her church memebers to pray and protect us from the ¨demons around us¨....... but it has to do with angels and demons around us....and they helping humanity in this battle...................... :uglylol:.......................

just check their website and youtube videos...... bubka posted them....

this is what Damon said............. so out of line................

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2008/09/matt_damon_wants_to_know_if_sa.html

It's like a really bad Disney movie. You know? The hockey mom, 'Oh I'm just a hockey mom from Alaska,' and she's the PRESIDENT, and it's like she's facing down Vladamir Putin and using the folksy stuff she learned at the hockey rink. It's absurd, it's totally absurd, and I don't understand why more people aren't talking about how absurd it is. It's a terrifying possibility. The fact that we've gotten this far and we're that close to this being a reality is crazy.
I need to know if she really think that dinosaurs were here 4,000 years ago. I want to know that, I really do. Because she's gonna have the nuclear codes.

Damon seems like a smart and down to earth guy from what I have read and observed of him.

Hes also a succesful professional in an ultra competitive industry.

and unlike our fellow board memeber ¨Metalhead dude¨...... Damon IS Harvard educated.

aparently he also doesnt believe in demons and the T-Rex hanging 4000 years ago..........

Anybody else see Palin's interview? The interviewer looks bored and restless within the first minute or so.

She's totally out of her fuckin' depth, and it shows in how she's so tense & hyped up through the interview. :shakehead: I didn't like Hillary, but at least she gives the impression of having the ability to think. Guess I'm really just a f***'n mysoginist. Get back to the kitchen you b****s!...:woot:

Charles Gibson DID look a little bored with her. I also got the impression that he was just toying with her a little, to pass the time. She really is a lightweight. I thought it was funny how he just couldn't get her to answer some of those direct questions!

God you guys are so easy to get riled.

As far as Sarah Palin goes, all the lefties appear critical and hateful towards her. Looks better and better for my side every minute relative to the November election.

Never, ever underestimate the Republican political machine. :)

It's like this - McCain for the military, pro-gun and centrist vote and Palin for the women vote. You guys are in deep, deep trouble. I thought this election would be a slaughter for Obama. But that Republican political machine appears to be doing it again.

I'm afraid to say it but there are millions upon millions of women who will now vote Republican for the sole reason that there is a woman on the ticket. Shallow but true IMHO.

Hey, hey baby!
