I had a nice chat with my sister this morning (the former US Ambassador, and a big Democrat), and she told me how bowled-over she was by Sarah Palin's performance last night at the convention. She was surprised at her ability to deliver such a big speech in front of so many people, her presence, her ability to connect with people, etc. This may not bode well for the Democrats in November, after all...

"Keep fighting" 'We'll do the right thing', "Lets fight", "Country first", "I've always been a fighter" "Yay for America" 'We're a nation of fighters" "It's all about fighting" "Don't stop fighting"
Sounded to me like the underlying theme was: America has no problems, lets revel in it's greatness, anybody who doesn't is not a true American.
It was more like a rally than a convention. I was waiting for the sycophants to stop their cheering and break into a full sieg heil.
If McCain gets in then there is going to be some really scary times ahead.

I think he's 72, and a fairly spry 72 at that. As a comparison, Churchill was 71 when the war ended, and began his second term as P.M. aged 77 - he stood down four years later after a stroke rendered him partially paralyzed.optimus prime said:I don’t want to sound ageist, but McCain is awfully old to be running for the president at 73. He is not much younger than my Gramps.
but simply riding in a full suit of armour shows remarkable fitness for a man of his age.

The records aren't that specific (it was 650 years ago) but I doubt a man with 60-odd years of experience would ride onto a battlefield wearing something flimsy. I can remember that it was quite shiny, does that help?oni said:Was it full plate mail or just dress armour, which would not stand up to battle.but simply riding in a full suit of armour shows remarkable fitness for a man of his age.
Full plate mail can still be quite light (20kgs) and dress armour well lets just say I would not like to be hit by a war hammer with it on!

It's like a really bad Disney movie. You know? The hockey mom, 'Oh I'm just a hockey mom from Alaska,' and she's the PRESIDENT, and it's like she's facing down Vladamir Putin and using the folksy stuff she learned at the hockey rink. It's absurd, it's totally absurd, and I don't understand why more people aren't talking about how absurd it is. It's a terrifying possibility. The fact that we've gotten this far and we're that close to this being a reality is crazy.
I need to know if she really think that dinosaurs were here 4,000 years ago. I want to know that, I really do. Because she's gonna have the nuclear codes.

Oh wait, that fair and impartial actor who has learned so much by being a Hollywood type all his adult life. Nevermind.
